Clearly not as many people are excited for a Zelda game. Skyrim is far more accessible (3 platforms)

Zelda's kind of old school now. It has it's fans no doubt but their in a bit of a minority compared to other titles.

Escapists, correct me if I'm wrong but this time last week the forums were full of Skyrim threads. To be honest, they still are.
But as we all know, it's Skyward Sword release day which was probably just as highly anticipated. So where's the Zelda threads. Sure it's still early days yet but just... what?
Sorry if you think it's a dumb question but hey, I'm entitled to express my opinion.
There's a strange antagonism towards anything Nintendo on this site (as regards the community). Every second comment seems to be about how they never change, or some such.

People need to play the game before they can offer commentary on it.
The mass of Skyrim threads started well before the game was out.
I think it's safe to say there was a lot more to talk about with Skyrim before release. We knew more about it, had been excited about it longer, and I think in general was more excited about it. Believe it or not, Zelda and all the other classics aren't always going to be the big contenders when it comes to releases. And not every community will react the same way. There are new kids on the block. Kids with better graphics, more original content, and a larger audience they appeal to--an audience who may have never seen what they have to offer.

I wondered the same thing but it was for Assassin's Creed Revelations. I've seen one thread about it. Maybe it's just because everyone is like me. I own the game but I haven't played it yet because I'm too busy with Skyrim.

Dammit, you made me think my copy of Skyward Sword will be in today. But that's only in Europe. It's the 20th in North America. A Sunday release date seems kind of odd.

But there won't ever been nearly as many Skyward Sword threads as there are Skyrim threads. The Escapist user base consists of a disproportionate amount of PC gamers and people who really really really hate Nintendo and the Wii. Don't let it affect your enjoyment (I certainly won't). People like different things. Accept it and move on.

I don't know a single person in real life who cares that Skyward Sword is being released. I know tons of people who were excited for Skyrim though, including myself, so perhaps it's just that the game isn't as anticipated?

I make no comment as to why that may be, as I know nothing at all about the game.

Seriously? I think you lost all credibility at this point.
From what I've been able to tell as of late from the gamers I hang with, the Zelda games attract Zelda fans. Those who like the Zelda fans will play the games. Those who don't like Zelda keep clear of the games, those who do will p

But I have seen all sorts of different gamers go after Skyrim--those who have played Elder Scrolls and Bethesda games, those who haven't, those who play mostly FPSs and those who mostly play RPGs and adventure games. PC and console gamers...everybody is going after this game. From what I've seen anyway, Skyrim's audience is much more varied than the audience that's pumped about Zelda. Maybe it's just the people I hang with, I dunno.

It's Nintendo and the Wii, two of the most hated things on the Escapist forums (right behind Call of Duty and Sony). Also, everyone likes to parrot Yahtzee and say that Zelda games never ever change without having even played them to experience it first hand. I'm guessing the actual Zelda lovers are either just not around or simply being buried by the number of Skyrim threads because we're still getting seven or eight new ones every two hours.

Sorry, but as much as I LOVE Zelda, these too are my thoughts on the matter. I will not buy a Wii for Zelda.

I can do whatever I want to do in Skyrim, and have a grand story to tell and retell in multiple threads.
I'm Link in Skyward Sword, and I do the same things that everyone else does.
Does that answer your question?

1. TES is more popular on this forum than Zelda (in my experience)
2. Skyrim is on 3 platforms. LoZ:SS is on one. The worst least-acclaimed-on-this-site one.
3. Skyrim had amazing marketing and hype (actually I saw no marketing at all outside of gaming stores in Australia, but lots of hype) while SS has none at all. I only heard about it last week.
4. Skyrim is prettier.

No. There are new kids on the block who are not Nintendo IPs and they do appeal to wider audiences.

Skyrim may, or may not, be one of them. But there certainly are new (relative to Nintendo) franchises which have a wider appeal.

For example, MW3 outsold everything, ever.

I would be buying it if it weren't on the Wii. Not buying one just for one game.
Well there's the Mario galaxy games too, which are excellent, and Smash bros brawl. And er... Mario kart and Metroid prime 3 and um... oh this is getting hard now.

If not buried easy to glance over since skyrim and skyward will look really the same.
There are a few zelda fans on this forum but yeah most of the time when you start a nintendo topic it will get buried under a lot of hate/dislike. (NoA is not helping either really).

To stay ontopic i have zelda SS (found a store that sold it a day early (lucky me(got it together with super mario 3d land. Fun game if not really easy)). I really like the game , i enjoy the style it looks really nice, just started to touch the surface of the game.

Well a couple of things:
- very few games get the Skyrim levels of hype
- not that many here have a Wii
- everyone probably has a system that can run Skyrim

I do wish they would port it to a proper system so we can have non retard controls.
