Own a PS2 and a Wii copy, and Daystar's right, when my wife asked me about it all I could say was "you know Zelda? All the best parts of all the 3D ones, done right, plus more, and breathtaking art in motion as a graphical direction."

I'll get this too, especially since the price is right and both versions I have are mistreated by a forced external upgrade to an HD monitor.

Yup, I always like to try games that seem unique and interesting. Okami's artsyle alone seems interesting enough for a purchase.

Also it's hard to say no to Daystar.

I played the game a couple months ago for the first time. It was pretty good, pretty damn good. Then I find out 2 days after returning it that there's an HD edition!

I saw it for sale last year and picked it up since I'd been intrigued about it for a while.

The art is really great, the combat is fun, and I would recommend it for anyone with an interest in the tradition aspects of Japan, if only to see how those aspects are collected and commercialised for consumption by a younger audience.

The few negatives were the snail-paced text speed that you couldn't adjust, and, surprisingly, the length. The game is surprisingly long. Usually that would be a good thing for me (I play JRPGs quite regularly), but Okami trolls you into believing you're right at the end at least twice that I can remember - the first time isn't even a third of the way through the game!

It will be a day one buy for me, because Okami is tied for the number one spot on my favourite games of all time list with Shadow of the Colossus.

I adore this game. Own it on Wii, played it on ps2 as well, but I preferred the Wii version.

I would totally buy this day one, only I don't own a ps3. So I'll just play it again on Wii and pretend I'm one of you fancy Okami HDers instead :D

Seriously though. Fantastic game. It's in my top five ever. I loved every second of it, and the worst part was finishing it because then I didn't have any more Okami to play.

I've also never played Okami, but heard god things about it. Can you give us some more info on the game Daystar? Like you say its like Zelda but better, but how?

Is it an RPG? 2D scroller? Whats the combat like?

etc
Okami is a third person action game, much in the vein of Zelda. The big difference between the two is that unlike in Zelda, combat in Okami takes place in tiny arenas that form around you and your opponents.

The game is surprisingly long, and has a well told, satisfying story with great characters and wonderful music.

The art style is completely unique, looking like a Japanese watercolor painting in motion.

The central mechanic of the game is your ability to control the 'celestial brush' and draw on the game world, affecting it in different ways (cutting things, creating platforms, dropping bombs)

Okami is as its core, a Zelda game that wasn't made by Nintendo, and could therefor deviate from the formula a bit. Overall, it is a fantastic game, totally worth anyone's time.

Ok, you guys have convinced me. I'll pick it up for the second-hand Wii I'll buy when the next console generation starts.

... What the fuck is this game even about?

I got a PS2 but no PS3... If you can interest me enough on it I might try to hunt down a PS2 copy...
Essentially, you are a Shinto [footnote](Japanese religion that mixes animism, spirituality, and a huge pantheon/bestiary of gods, goddesses, demons and mystical creatures, to put it in simplest of definitions)[/footnote] Goddess reincarnated in the form of the wolf, and you are charged with bringing nature back to it's proper glory and defeating multiple demons hell-bent of making the world a miserable place. But that's just the surface of the plot. Once you get into the game, there are several branching arcs and side stories woven into one large narrative, alongside the Messianic charge of saving the world.

Does that help?

I still have both my PS2 as well as the PS2 disk for Okami so I don't think I'll be buying the HD version. However it does look absolutely beautiful.

Dammit, why can't these things be on the PC? >.>
I played the original, and loved it, until I got stuck and pissed off at some wall-creature on the demon island, and I never went back and beat it.

I think it's from FF13, but I'm not sure. I asked Caramel Frappe for a moving Tonberry avatar, and I received. They're adorable, don't you think?

Having never played Okami before(I had a gamecube, sue me), the trailer does make it look like a good game.
Also dat Art Style.

So Daystar, what makes this game so special?
When anyone ever asks me that question, I always answer it the same way.

Okami is like The Legend of Zelda.
Only better in every conceivable way.
Better Dungeons?
Better Boss Fights?
Better Music?
Better Exploration?
Better Sidequests?
Better Puzzles?

I am sure it will be fun, I appreciate a game that tries to have it's own identity.
As a die-hard fan of Zelda, I have to say "Yes to All." It is the second best game I've ever played, Morrowind being the first. In the adventure genre, it is leaps and bounds above any competition.

Now that I've talked it up to unreasonable levels, go play it and try to form your own opinion of it. Maybe you'll hate every aspect of it, but for me, I can't even nit-pick anything. Just think about that and compare to your favorite game, I'm sure you can nit-pick it a bunch. I know I can with Morrowind.

Ok, ok, I did come up with one nit-pick before posting. The drawing recognition on the Wii was rather shitty. The thing is, it didn't bother me at all because the game pauses every time you draw something. If you fail, you lose only about .3 of a second to try again. Roughly 97% of the time, that failure doesn't make a lick of a difference.

OT: I won't be getting this sadly. I don't own a PS3, and I won't be owning a PS3. It would be a day-one purchase if it got sent to Steam though. My Wii copy is great and all, but I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again on my favorite platform.

No that is defiantly not from FF13. I beat that game. Same with XIII-2.

And you bet they are.

Except FFXI's Tonberry. That thing is fucking scary.

I played and loved this game when it got re-released on the Wii, even though I am lead to believe that this is the lesser version of the game, I still really loved it, it has some really beautiful moments, moments that when you first see them will actually make you go "wow".

I'm not saying its the perfect game, I think it does have its flaws, but buying this on day one is definately a no brainer for me, I'm looking forward to playing it with a proper controller.

It is from XIII. And I have the evidence!

Look at it! It's so proud of itself, and ready to fuck up the heroes' day! :D
I don't care how hard they are to kill in some games, I still love em.
