Okay, what happened to the escapist forums while I was away.

Because people grow up and have to deal with jobs and shit, also cause attrition rates is on the downside in general (this is a trend across the board, not just escapist really, although it's more pronounced cause it was part of the cause, and one of the few places that owned up to its own failing while allowing discussion of a controversy).

And then you've lurkers that decides to join, and then got fed up. The quote system is painful to use when it's more than 1 quote deep >.< And finding that aside from some certain things, they don't have much or know enough to talk about (I love my tabletop+RP, but when I read some of the discussion here and elsewhere, I realize I'm way over my head and should just shut up and go back to being a lurker and just enjoy the thread, or my experience is so different that I question if we are even talking about the same game).

I'm more on the eastern side of gaming and entertainment media as that's from my background, so sometimes discussion about western games simply don't click with me so I just talk about this on a more appropriate forum, especially since there was a hate on eastern games for a while. And gdi, I know I would've been banned for using "rude" language even though I use it on the subject itself instead of the individual since I've seen enough baiting and shit to know that I wouldn't survive in that kind of environment.

Why was this post flagged for moderation?

What rule did it break?

If Anti GG is against harassment, why is it the people on their side who engage in this shit instead of GG?

Weren't the bomb threats enough?

I don't see who would have flagged the quoted message other than someone engaged in that kind of bad behavior, and why a mod would punish the user for saying that if it did not break the rules
It didn't break the rules. It questioned the authority and integrity of moderation.

Listen and believe.

edit: And now you've had your taste of moderator abuse as well. Well done, Escapist.

It always intrigues me that lurking in the forum it's always AGG that uses any tactics it can to silence the opposition including suicide bomber accounts designed to bait people and wrack up warnings, and AGG is the one who really loves their bomb threats but GG are the terroists for some reason?

Airplay was practically a peace conference where they hoped GG and AGG would finally be able to have a reasoned discussion, but for some reason the inner ISIS took over and some people felt obliged to sabotage it.

And I notice that while GG is expected to distance itself from the bad actors in the movement, no one in AGG felt obliged to distance and call out the people who did that....
Correction: It did break a rule. A very bad, easily abused rule: "Publicly airing your grievances or mocking and disrespecting either the moderators in their official capacity or the rules will only get you further warnings."

This essentially barricades all public discussion of the rules (INCLUDING DISCUSSION OF THE RULE ABOUT DISCUSSING THE RULES! I RUN THE RISK OF BEING BANNED FOR TALKING ABOUT THIS!) or the ability to bait others into getting punished, as a punishable offense itself.

You don't see this put in place on many respectable forums to such an extent, because it eradicates the ability for the community to debate and discuss appropriate behavior. It's an authoritarian measure. LinusTechTips forum allows open discussion of the rules within reason - you can't spam a thread with continual complaints and you're not supposed to discuss bans.
You might want to edit that to avoid a warning like the one I got, but I agree.

I also don't know why the escapist continues to leave such a big loop hole that one side continues to abuse, as another of their attempts to silence any who would call them out on their bad behaviour

edit: Qouting mess up
Too late. Maybe it was worth it, just for the ironic nature. I now have no idea why I bothered paying 20 dollars for a subscription if that's what the money is put towards.

This thread's a wonderful example of what 'happened'; two sides bleating at each other about stuff that tends to be utterly meaningless other than to their own side/cause, with everyone else caught in the crossfire or standing bemused on the sidelines.

But, generally, teh internetz simply being teh internetz is what's continuing to happen. Stick to/ignore a few boards, and you'll be fine.

Breaking the rules repeatedly is just going to get you repeated warnings. You should take moderation-related grievances to the Community Manager or another member of staff: ffronw, s0osleepie or JonB - or use the contact form [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/contact/]. You need to familiarize yourself with the CoC and use the proper channels; if you complain in the forums, it's unproductive because they won't see it and you'll just end up derailing the thread you're posting in. It's also not a good idea to imply that the mods are lazy and/or incompetent and/or corrupt, because any volunteer moderator who ends up reading that will probably be happy to give you further warnings.

Please move this thread back on topic.

The injection of politics in gaming has been terrible for the community. In the past conservative, liberal, Jew, atheist, etc., were able to come together to discuss a hobby they love, but with the introduction of feminist philosophy and the gamergate backlash people who otherwise happily shared a virtual space became bitter and heated enemies. There was a lot of name calling and lack of civility all around and it caused a huge rift in not just this community but many gaming communities.

Not only that but a lot of the best content creators are realizing they don't need sites like the Escapist anymore. You couple that with the fact that paid "advetorial" content is creeping in more and more and you see why these traditional sites are losing readership.

It's not going to end well either. GG is wrecking the place, and when the staff eventually get desperate and kick them off, they'll ban dodge, DDOS, and whatever people are left at that point will move on.
I don't know if any of that will happen. It might just linger on in perpetuation.
