Half-Life: Opposing Force, of course.
To be entirely honest, I actually like Opposing Force slightly more than Half-Life 1. It's like a shorter but sweeter version of Half-Life, that adds all sorts of cool extra features to that original formula while also stripping out some of the more obnoxious stuff (there's significantly less platforming than in Half-Life 1, for instance). Whenever I find myself in the mood for a nice old school shooter, Opposing Force is usually the one I'll turn to, especially now that Black Mesa pretty much makes Half-Life 1 obsolete.

And speaking of Black Mesa, here's hoping that Operation Black Mesa [http://www.moddb.com/mods/operation-black-mesa] can be nearly as good.

I'm currently playing God Hand again and just started downloading the Black Mesa mod. I know God Hand isn't that old, but still. I love it so much.

Been playing wing commander three lately. I actually never played it before, but I'm enjoying it. Despite it's hair pulling frustration. I remember playing the very first one on Sega CD almost to completion when I was little, so I've always had a little bit of a soft spot for the WC series. Maybe that's why I haven't rage quit this fracking game yet. :p

Nuttin'. I'm sort of waiting until I get a job / some xmas money. Really, games aren't interesting me that much anymore. I'm considering Morrowind for Xbox from a used game store, but I honestly don't really want the headache of whether it will work properly in my 360. I'm thinking of preordering Assassin's Creed 3 for a discount at Best Buy and that about does it for my new games purchases for the year. I want Borderlands 2, but only if it's cheap. I have Saints Row 2 and 3 "sitting on my shelf," but I played about an hour of 2 and couldn't stand the weird controls or hideous graphics. I did go back and play some Geometry Wars Galaxies for a little bit and had some fun. The Kirby Anniversary box is also appealing, but I don't want to spend the money.
I would suggest not getting Morrowind for Xbox. It has crazy bad framerate and loading time issues at times (an issue with a lot of xbox games run on the 360) but also the fact that with mods and the price of morrowind on steam, getting it for pc is a far better choice in my opinion. In the end, even if you have a crap pc, it likely can still run a game from the early 2000s. Also, if you have a mid to high range computer, the graphics modscan really spice up the game to make it a comparatively quite visually great game.

I'm recently bought Wip3out:Special Edition, as I found out I had lost my original game that I THOUGHT I had laying in my collection. This is why you should always think twice about borrowing out your games to mates, people. Anyways, the game is totally AWESOME. This was the pinnacle of the series IMO, they got everything just right. The minimalistic, smooth graphics. Pumping soundtrack. Excellent courses, and finely tuned gameplay. A classic.

I've also started up FFVI again, as I downloaded it from PSN. I bought it years ago when it was re-released on the PSX, but never finished it due to the horrible lag everytime you wanted to go into the menu screen. Seriously, the game takes twice as long to finish just because of it! To my disappointment, the lag is also there on the PSN download, but this time I'm gonna finish it for sure. I'm loving the story so far, it's really pure FF magic from a time when SquareSoft knew what the hell they were doing.

I also saw Blackthorne/Blackhawk for the SNES in my local retroshop, considering picking it up!

That's damn true, I got the Morrowind GOTY for Xbox, and as much as I like it, the loading times are quite damnable, and there's so much stuff that's possible to use in Morrowind: there isn't a quick-select option (like console Oblivion), pretty much the only option is to linearly scroll through spell/weapon options, which isn't too helpful in the midst of cliff-racer-clusterfuck.

Also, it's probably quite unlikely that it has an update that makes it compatible with the 360, I might be wrong, though.

Wow it's rare to see someone else who knows the glory of Timesplitters! Fantastic game series, multiplayer was heavily abused around here we played that waaaaaaay too much.
It's certainly the last game I remember that allowed the use of the 'corridor of death' technique.

I just had a 5-hour LAN session of UT2009 yesterday. Still such a great game.
The original Doom is still good too with mouse aiming and Brutal Doom installed.

That's a bloody good idea, think i'll go start that now, although I don't have contracts for some bizarre reason. Is there any story stuff missed if I don't play contracts? Have all the other games.

I regularly crack out my old games, some of the best games I've ever played came out in the mid-late 90's.

Old games that I'm currently playing through are:

Crash Bandicoot 3
Final Fantasy VII

Probably going to start playing Half-Life again soon, just to compare it to Black Mesa. Also got that itch starting that drives me to play Deus Ex once in a while, too.

BG2. Bought it on GoG a few months back, and I now understand why it's one of the most highly-regarded RPG's of all time.

I also do a runthrough of Deus Ex every year. Still manages to surprise me every time.

Having just finished Hitman 2 and started Contracts, it'd be a shame if y'missed out; 2 is good, but it hasn't really aged all that well, Contracts really seems to pick it up in gameplay terms, starts introducing the kind of gameplay and control used in Blood Money (which is really, really good).

Also I'm not sure if Contracts is in fact console-ony...

Yeah, I love 1, 2 and BM, just never played Contracts for some reason. I'm fairly certain it came out on PC....checks....yeah it did. I think I was always under the impression that it was basically just a rehash of the first game, but looking at it, it seems like it does have a story and new levels.

Will have to check it out now, thanks for the tip!

The original Shin Megami Tensei game for SNES.

Is actually surprisingly enjoyable considering how old it is and what genre. Older RPG's don't tend to be stellar, or at least compel me in the same way.
Is there a localized version of SMT1 floating around or are you just one of those crazy geniuses that can read Japanese?
An English translation by Aeon Genesis has been floating around for quite some time now and recently someone from 4chan released an updated patch that fixed a great deal of the bugs that the Aeon Genesis patch introduced (it was one of their first, so they introduced a fairly decent number of bugs, some minor, some absolutely not minor).

If you're going to play it, I beseech you to pick up the updated version, AG's translation is pretty solid but their playtesting wasn't.
