Older games are like new games: some are good and some are bad. But sometimes you'll find one in a bargain bin somewhere that was an idea ahead of its time. Thats the point of this forum, i wanna hear about ssome of people's faverote old-but-gold games. Also I hope this thread will help any on-budget gamers (what with the recession and all) find sommin cheap but awesome!

Tropico (PC): Control a tropical island in this political sim. May sound dull but it actually really entertaining from legalising gambling to eliminating your election rival. Whats not to like?
Just to let you know a third tropico is coming out soon...

Beyond Good & Evil and the two Deus Ex games (even if many people hate the second Deus Ex)

Fallout 1+2 for sure (Tactics can go and die in a landfill site for all I care)

and this is probably streaching it a bit for the old catagory but I'd say Evil Genius, I found my copy the other day and have been playing since. (Unfortunatly my gaming PC bluescreened on me last night so looks like it's time for a new rig)

I'd have to say Pokemon R/B/G. If you don't mind the dodgy sprites (by todays standards) then it's still a rewarding game

Three games I recently picked up for a total of around $9: SSX Tricky, Viewtiful Joe and Animal Crossing. All excellent games, and widely available on the cheap.

Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri. I have a game going right now. This is a game where you can do epic things like ruining the environment of a planet and badass thing like nerve stapling people to stop them rebelling against your despotic rule. That's what all the kids like like these days, right? Epic things and badass things? Anyway, just get it.
I bought a budget copy myself, for 5 bucks. Like after 2 years it came out. Love this game. The only problem is I need the manual to go with it, at least a physical copy.

I have the manual and the tech tree poster. You should want both of these things because they are excellent.

Did you know that they average mind worm specimen is 10cm long? Probably not, because you don't have the manual.

Tactics? Really? I love Fallout 1 and 2, and Fallout Tactics was great! So what makes you say hateful things about it? It's a Tactical Combat game, which was done very well.

Bubble Bobble!

Me and my mom would sit and play it for HOURS (she was always the blue dino and I was always the green one). We had the passwords for almost all the phases wrote down. It was insane.

But, when we got to stage 250-and-something and we saw no ending in sight, we kind of 'gave up', really ¬.¬

Which version were you playing? The arcade version only has 100 levels if I remember correctly.

Well my main beef with the game is the scenario of not being able to go back as such, once a mission is done you better hope to hell you got everything you want because the encounters sucked balls. And when they pull that bullshitty level with the supermutants.
