When I think of old games, I think of games such as Crono Trigger and The Legends of Dragoon (I really wish they would make a sequal, but that's for another form) because they were on the PS1 and were pretty successful in their day with powerful story, decent animation, and just true classics

Well I consider anything from the NES days as "classic" not old. Anything from before that, then yeah I can see that as old. I have friends who think the same way, though. When I told them that instead of playing some Modern Warfare 2 (which I HATE) I decided to go play some Space Quest, they just gave me the most bizarre look. I doubt they even know about those games, let alone the awesomeness that Is Roger Wilco!
Ahhh the Janitor Supreme of the space corp. Lousy Time Rippers. In my case it's the awesomeness of Tex Murphy.

As for me I do not refer to any game as old. Instead I say older as in older than current gen. games.

Peoples views on games are skewed I feel lately. Games that are old seem to get passed off as something just for nostalgia. There's a lot of games that are still amazing to this day. Hell I think RPGs of today are garbage (JRPGs that is) and the older games are far superior. Shooters may have improved in many ways but JRPGs just ...blah I don't like the new ones. And platformers don't even get me started.

As far as new/old games? Ehhhh....I dunno, never heard of that whole thing.

Halo 3 is not old, its aged for certain, when compared to the Reach Beta, but not old. I would consider Halo CE old. Halo 2 maybe, not something from this gen of console though.

The only time I ever really play "Old" games is on my PC. Its not exactly what you would call a gaming rig, its about 6 years old (Shoot me)

I can only play aged games on it. Anything before 2000 is fine and thing after is pushing it but I can streach as far as 2005 before it decides it wants to die (I wonder what form of cancer my PC would get if it tried to run Crysis?).

Well...

Video games tend to age a hell of a lot worse than any other medium, due to the constant advances in graphics and physics.

Many games (especially 3D) suffer from aged graphics, and it's very hard (at least for me) to go back to them now.

So I think that when people say old, they really mean aged.
And games suffer this harder than any other medium.

EDIT:
Also, when you are only 13 years of age, 3/4 year old games are going to seem old, just because of your short lifespan thus far.

This will change.
Our perception of time, and the concept of "old", will change the older we get.

In my opinion, games don't get "old". They become "vintage".

And even then, the minimum age for "vintage" status is 15 years.

The people you speak of are likely the spoiled/privileged people that get games at their launch and play it only until something new comes out. Then, they never touch their other games again.

Age doesn't matter to me. There's a reason my friend and I still hook up the Sega and play Gunstar Heroes and Streets of Rage.

There's a reason we still hook up the Nintendo to shoot down some ducks or have a huge battle between plumbers that happen to be brothers.

"Old" games are mindless fun. Unlike games of today, they don't require a lot of thought. They're mindless enjoyment. The games of today have thrown out the fun factor and opted for more content and better graphics. They wanted better leveling systems and more choices for the paint job of your gun. When was the last time you truly, truly had real fun playing a game?

Personally, my interest in gaming has gone down since the era of the PS1. The games stopped being fun and started turning into an unpaid job.
[small]Damn. How did I get from old games to this?[/small]

This was actually brought up to me a few days ago. I was playing MW2 and there was this guy with the gamertag Mr. Grimm. So I said to my friend,"Hey, he's named Mr. Grimm."
My friend responds, " Who's that?"
"From Twisted Metal?" I say.
"What the fuck's that?" He says; and then I realize that games like Twisted Metal and older games vital to gaming's growth into what it is now have been cast aside in favor of the flashier games of today. Just from that conversation, I felt old even though I'm only 18.

I've been playing the Space Quest series recently. Some of them have aged pretty badly, but SQII still kicks butt.

Lol Halo 3? Old? Episode 3 old?? No, no, ASTERIODS is old. CITIZEN KANE is old! Saying Halo 3 is old is like saying "Well timmy, you're three years old already, I think it's time for you to start contributing to this household with some steady employment", It's just too soon.

I class anything not made for a current generation console as "old". I think no one should dismiss a game simply for its age though. I judge on quality of gameplay not age (I can't understand the whole, if somethings seen as "old" its bad (or rather "uncool") mentality. I love lots of "old" games (such as I'm currently playing the SNES game Yoshi's Island, well the GBA port of it) and well as lots of "newer" games (Such as another game I'm currently playing Dragon Quest IX Sentinals of the Sky on DS).

I consider a game "old" when you can no longer buy the console for it, that doesn't mean the game isn't good though.

I still play Metroid II on my Gameboy.

Graphics really don't matter to me at all if the rest of the game is enjoyable.
Wow mate, that's rarely heard these days. I bow before you :p
Really? My friends and I kinda live by that, as long as you can tell what you're doing, a game looks fine enough to play. It's like watching old scifi, you know what they're showing you and it does the job.
