My nitpick is that he could've used said money to say...oh i dont know...BUILD A BUILDING WHERE POOR KIDS WHO DON'T HAVE S*** COULD GO PLAY! I dunno this just kinda seems like one of those things rich people do to get attention with a justifiable reason behind it, your thoughts?

Oh crap...what if he's lying about the treasure, and what he's actually going to have there is a golden box with nothing more than a troll face on a piece of cheap paper on the inside.

I would totally do that, or build something like Stonehenge as a practical joke and then make people for hundreds of years scratch their heads in wonder. Fortunately I'm not rich. :p

While reading this guy's story I couldn't help but think of a certain movie quote, "It's buried under a big W". >:D

Sounds legit imo. You don't see people trying stuff like this on a regular basis, after all.

So the man trying to get people to go outside (to americas free to enter nation parks) should have spent the money on a building for people to go inside?

Rich people tend to do what they want because they can, not because it makes sense. Seems like he might be playing a joke on everyone who isn't him.

Actually, the reason he did so was because he was diagnosed with cancer. He was given a few months to live and decided to do something for people to remember. He wanted to give people the same feeling he got when he searched for treasure. He filled it with over a million dollars worth of gold coins, rubies, and sapphires to give it a real treasure hunt feel. He wrote a book and put the clues to find it in the opening pages. But, as awesomeness would have it, his cancer went into remission and he was given a new lease on life. After seeing all these stories people had about bringing their families together in search of a the treasure, he decided to leave it out there. So it's not a "millionaire buries cash to watch poor people search for it" kind of situation.

that is such a great movie concept....It's funny what folks will go through to perpetuate some sort of personality quirks or eccentricities.

Dude, that shit is hilarious.

And, you wouldn't complain if he just kept the money. Which would be of as much use to everyone else. To rationally apply your standard, you now need to list everyone who has more than they need, and condemn them for not building, what was the phrase?

"A BUILDING WHERE POOR KIDS WHO DON'T HAVE S*** COULD GO PLAY!"

Charming.

I like this millionaire style!

Sorry but can you name me another rich person who also did the same thing as he did? I thought that sort of thing exist only in the media (book or show/ films).

Now I think about it, this could work as a reality tv show like some group of people seach the globe for the treasure.

I'm totally for this. Life's too boring the way it is. I mean real pirates didn't have many instances of buried treasure in the history books, and they certainly don't now. Heck, I think more people should do things like this. Or just anything bizarre that'll make epic stories happen.
