Okay, here is a place to rip, rage, and praise all your favorite Real Times Stratagies.

THIS ENTIRELY EXCLUDES STARCRAFT. I'm sick of every fanboy whining about how starcraft is the most amazing RTS in the world.

>.>

Mine is a bridge between Outpost 2, and Outpost 1, outpost 1 because it takes colony management to an ENTIRELY new level, and Outpost 2 because I actually made a few missions for it once the OP2 community got a hold of it and got it mostly cracked. Yay freeware!
Warzone 2100.

I love you for recognizing warzone 2100. That was my first rts I ever played and it just blew me away with everything you could do in it. Been playing RTS and TBS games ever since.

Why you should play this game:

- brilliant science-fiction post-apocalyptic setting
- compelling story featuring an interesting antagonist
- design and name your own units
- build aesthetically-pleasing bases with walls, turrets, artillery, etc
- broad variety of weapons at your disposal - tank cannons, artillery, lasers, rockets, etc
- research technologies & use them to build new units
- extremely challenging unit survival metagame - play the entire game without losing a single unit, and end up with veteran ranked units by the end of the game
- build a hero unit which controls your other units & acts as a mobile rally point
- excellent (although rather small) soundtrack
- coordinate artillery fire with sensor units
- build firebases with long-range artillery batteries which can be used to smash enemy defenses
- FREE!

Be aware:

- graphics are a little dated
- gameplay CAN be slightly repetitive
- can be very addictive =p
Outpost2, REALLY outdated graphics, slightly repatitive Download Http://Outpost2.net

Looks like a good game, check mine out, I'll check yours out! :) Definatly seems like fun. Big RTS Fan here, so I'll give it a shot.

Age of Mythology, put tons of time into the single-player alone. Don't get me started on the multi-player.

I loved WC3:TFT

supreme commander: forged alliance is another one that has kept me and my friends up until the wee hours of the morning in frantic 4v4 land only battles

also a fan of the total war series

He said old... and there's been no love for Dune 2? Come on... that game was awesome in its day!

[sub]but yeah, I'm a Supreme Commander fan too... [sub]I'm also a fan of the Supcom->TA conversion mod, however incomplete it is at the moment.[/sub][/sub]
You. Yes,you. Get out of my head. Never played Dune 2,myself,but I did play Emperor: Battle For Dune. It was fun. Until my army got eaten by Dune Worms.

Psst...Hook me up with some info on that conversion mod...I want my army of Zippers and Spiders back.

Company of Heroes. Not that old but definitely one of the best RTSs. It's a WW2-themed game but still pretty damn good. Storming the beaches at Normandy is pretty damn fun.

I had a whole lot of fun with Earth 2150 , Earth 2160 was pretty bland but 2150 was awesome with vehicle customization and the 3 factions being so different from each other.

Also, i have a soft spot for metal marines, it's old, ugly and very outdated but jeez that was so much fun! (except when they were able to missile your mech factories even though they were protected by 8+ double SAM's and a radar  )

Stronghold: Crusader

had lots of personality & charm, and was the first game i played where you could actually move units on the castle walls (always hated how age of empires had lame wall building mechanics)

Dawww... Poor Ol' Age of Mythology..
There's no denying that that's the best RTS ever made. :3
I wish I could play it, but I'm a bit of a graphics whore. :c
Nothing cooler than upgrading your hopolites to the max, and seeing them annihilate some Cyclops. ^_^
Yeah, hoplites were always fun. Dwarfs as well. I still hear their chatter when I lay awake at night in my head. God-awful campaign though. Not as bad as AoE 3, but still pretty bad.

My favorites are a bit of a tossup between Company of Heroes, the first Dawn of War, AoE 2 and Red Alert 3.
Red Alert 3 specifically because of the Multigunner IFV.

The Battle for Middle-Earth 2, and it's expansion Rise of the Witch-king. Great fun with lots of potential, which means EA dropped the ball like the bastards they are. Large battles, lots of units, and the power points and heroes were awesome. Too bad you really can't buy it anymore, and have to use gameranger to find games.

AoE 2, Empire Earth, and AoM quite possibly may be the bet RTS games ever.

Battle for Middle Earth was also really fun. I loved trampling units with horses or a Mumakil.

Man I love me some CnC series. The Tiberium series was my favorite.

I logged hours of the old Tiberium Sun back in the day. Then Firestorm had the CABAL campaign and taking down that super Avatar-mech final boss was so intense. Plus Kane is one of the best villains in videogames and Joe Kucan (his actor) is such an awesome guy.
