Gargoyles the animated show, it was beastly
It was an awesome show, but it's also widely acknowledged as such even today.

I guess my pick would be Count Duckula, a show that looked like they took rather liberal inspiration in design from Donald Duck and told a story about the wacky adventures of a vegetarian vampire with it. I absolutely adored that show when I was a kid.

I do recall being fond of W*I*T*C*H back in the day.
Ooh! I remember that comic. But only because the creators of W*I*T*C*H made a totally awesome, and not to mention adult take on the super hero alter ego of Donald Duck; Duck Avenger. Sadly only in comic book form, it would have been awesome as a Saturday morning cartoon. It even had a PS2 game.

On a related note, I remember a show where a guy died on the subway, and his brain was implanted within a secret government project super human. Aah, the 90's. Now and Again it was called, don't know any others than me and a friend who used to watch it. Probably why it got cancelled. But it was fun while it lasted.

And I nearly forgot about Sledge Hammer!

There is one TV show that I remember liking but for the life of me I can't remember the name...it was a CGI cartoon, I think it might have been on Kids WB, I think it was about people in mech suits fighting in tournaments...that's all I remember.

Ah, Now and Again. My family was crestfallen when it got cancelled, especially after that mother-of-all end season hook in the season one finale.

From what I heard it was actually cancelled because the network didn't approve the cost to produce the show, it actually enjoyed relatively good ratings.

Not really childhood shows, but I feel both of these don't get nearly enough kudos.

The Shield:Everyone loves to rave about The Wire and Sopranos, but for my money, this was one of the greatest crime dramas ever made. Someone seriously needs to put Michael Chiklis into something gritty and awesome again. .

Kenny vs Spenny: Probably one of my favorite shows of all time. Ridiculous, juvenile, gross but hilarious. One of the few things to come out of the reality TV sector I actually liked. I don't think anyone has managed to come up with a similar show since and I'm not sure anyone will ever get away with what they did on TV ever again. It's a shame more people aren't aware of it as they'd both commit to another season if there was enough interest shown for producers to give it the green light.

Side Note: They are both doing a world tour at the moment across Canada, US, Australia and a number of other countries.

There are several.
At the turn of the millenia Finnish TV started doing re-runs of McGyver, Xena, StarGate and A-Team and similar shows.
So everyone born around the 1990s had a real hype aorund those kinds of series. Sadly they're only a memory gone, mostly.

As If; laid the groundwork for the magnificent Skins, but it's never seen a DVD release (music licensing problems, one suspects) and Channel 4 seem reluctant to even acknowledge its existence.

Babylon 5. One of the most groundbreaking sci fi shows, that set a precedent for many to follow, yet very few people I know ever saw it.
Yeah, Babylon 5 was amazing! It's currently broadcasted again in my country, but looks horrible because of some weird TV filter rendering. The show now looks as cheaply as possible, burying all the fantastic story telling under it. However, I remember the show very fondly. The Valen-thing, Kosh and how unconventional the war story unraveled simpy blew my mind.

Alias
I first didn't want to watch it because I don't care that much for spy stories. Man, was I wrong. The show uses its premise to become a very entertaining treasure hunt with surprising guest stars.

Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Lights
One of the first cartoons I followed. Cheesy to no end, but still enjoyable. Funny how nobody seems to have ever heared of it.

Daria
Even though it's fondly remembered by many, the show seems not to be relevant for a younger audience today. Which is funny, because if one show is, 'Daria' would be it.

The Maxx
Everyone should at least once see this show, period.

Spin-off(ish) from Danger Mouse, and featuring David Jason as the voice...and he later went on to be knighted.

I don't quite remember it's name....

Time Commander?

It used the Rome Total War engine and made four people act as commanders of a historical army against a computer. Wasn't very popular, but it got me into history like no one's business.
Only ever heard of that...didn't that end with a loss for the humans half the time because the people playing as captains never listened to the person playing the general?
True; but often, when they did listen, it actually went very well.

Plus they tweak the damages and numbers to closer resemble historical accuracy.

I think they should have had less families on there, and more team-y things, like professors, ex-military, rugby players. But it was always the kids and the adults, and those were the episodes you just skipped.

But the idea was good; I would love to grab an Empire Total War one and do something similar.

This cartoon was called Heavy Gear, and it was about them fighting in arena tournaments. They had missiles and machine guns but it almost always came down to close quarters fighting.

God, I used to love that.

I know a program which no one ever seems to talk about now, but I KNOW people must have watched.

It was a Jackie Chan animated cartoon, complete with 12 magical tokens which granted you special powers.

That's easy: Jackie Chan Adventures

This show was SO MUCH better than it had any legitimate right to be. As MovieBob once pointed out, celebrity cartoons have had a... spotty history, to be generous. But JCA is the undisputed KING of the sub-genre.

And unlike alot of shows that get bookended by live-action segments from real people, JCA's segments with the real Jackie Chan are both interesting and entertaining.

Seriously, it ran for 5 seasons (which is crazy-talk as far as your average cartoon is concerned), and although the last season is of somewhat dubious quality, it doesn't feel like it outstayed it's welcome at all.

This show is in my top 10 American-made cartoons ever, no question. But... no one really seems to give a damn about it anymore.

EDIT:

Jesus Christ, Manimal. I thought I was the only one.

Hill Street Blues...Let's be careful out there.

I loved, and still love, Barney Miller. The theme song was the best.

I fondly remember Beauty and The Beast too.

Both the Newhart shows too. Especially Newhart, loved Larry, Daryl, and Daryl.

Oh Christ Jackie Chan Adventures kicked ass. The show just had so much imagination, memorable characters (ONE MORE THING!) and surprisingly still holds up pretty well today.

Let me tell you that I smiled like I haven't smiled in awhile when my D&D dungeon master started quoting the series.

I hope he got knighted for Count Duckula. That would be the greatest thing ever.

I actually do remember this show from when we still had The Children's Channel I think. Wasn't it by the same guys who made Eek the Cat?

I still have this show on VHS.

OT: MTV's The State and Down Town. Two shows back from when MTV was still awesome. Also, Columbo and Quantum Leap.

Man I went through a nostagia phase way too early and was looking up theme tunes to kids shows when I was about 13. I guess a couple I remember and few others around me do would be Round the Twist (which was weird.. really weird) and Mighty Max. I remeber getting one of the Mighty Max toys, it was like a coiled snake/temple-thing that opened with playable things inside.

I swear there was a cartoonabout giant plants attacking people or something but can't find that anywhere. Oh and Captain Simeon and the SPAAAAAACCE MONKEEEYS.

I used to watch Time Commanders too. It always made me like the mistakes teams were obvious and that I could obviously do much better. Bought Medieval Total War 2 .. did terrible. The episodes are available on Youtube if you're curious.

Favourite shows growing up were Knightmare and The Animals of Farthingwood.. I wish they'd release a DVD here.

Just some old shows that used to come on Toon Disney, especially Darkwing Duck, Bonkers and the New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh (though I get why no one talks about Bonkers, I mean... it wasn't that great of a show)

But I'm not sure if those count as "old" but to be fair, I had a sheltered life and I just like cartoons more so those are old by my standards in that they don't come on anymore and were made in the early-mid nineties.

I DO own Darkwing Duck on DVD though so there's that~

I'm going to take the opportunity to pimp my YouTube channel, which features two series my mother made back in the 80's which I still think were amazing. Neither of them were ever remembered with the kind of fondness shows like Bagpuss and The Clangers received (personally I think it's because they were on the more 'lowbrow' ITV channel) but I get quite a few comments from fans along the lines of 'all my friends were convinced I'd dreamed this'.

The better of the two in my opinion was Pullover (and yes, that's me in the credits)

The second one, Fox Tales, was more of a standard storytelling kind of thing, and I think it's visually beautiful, but I don't think it's quite as lovely. (Yes, Who-fans, that's Peter Davison doing the narration)
