I played Heroes of Might and Magic 3 (1998) yesterday. Still easily one of my top games of all time. It's.. so good even disregarding the nostalgia, and it's one of the games it's easy to get my girlfriend to play with me. <3

The other "old game" I'm playing nowadays is Street Fighter 3: Online Edition, which is a faithful 3rd Strike remake(for better or worse. Fuck Chun-Li) with better graphics, some nice trials/tutorials and far better online matchmaking than SF4 had. 3rd Strike is technically a 1999-game, but the SF3 engine(for SF3: New Generation) is from 1997, so yeah.

I'm playing Baldur's Gate 2 again. It is one of my all time favorite games, but I haven't played it in several years. I got it off gog with the expansion. I'm playing through the whole game eager to get to the expansion as I never got to play that. It is by far one of the most complex rpgs I have played. I remember raging when people talked about Baldurs Gate Dark Alliance, because that turned such an intricate game into press x to win hack and slash.

After BG2, I'm going to replay Icewind Dale 2.

Oddly enough, I could never get into BG1 or Icewind Dale 1. I guess it was because early dnd levels don't really hold many interesting options for wizards. Sure it is fun in person since it is more about role-playing, but I prefer the higher levels when playing computer games.

I also might play diablo 2 again. My nice computer broke and I have to wait till I get back into the states to fix it/buy new laptop. So now Diablo 3 and I'm really missing Starcraft 2 =(. Might just go to a korean pc room and have everyone be all shocked that zomg a white girl is good at Protoss.

I haven't the slightest clue, I play old games almost exclusively, I mean the newer stuff I play is on GameCube[footnote]I just remembered I played Bioshock on a friend's Xbox just last weekend! That's the most recent thing I've played recently, I've probably played newer stuff before though.[/footnote], but anyway, eh... the one I've been playing the most is FFVI on my GBA but that's not really the oldest one, well I tried playing Castlevania 2 since I passed 1 last year, but it's nowhere near as good, really boring, let's go with that, but I wouldn't be surprised if that isn't it.
But I kinda wanted to say Soul Blazer though I know that's nowhere near the oldes thing I've played recently...

I've been playing the PC remake of Castlevania 2... not very old by release date, but the original came out in 1987.
Aside from that, I recently re-played a big portion of Super Metroid, in order to help out a friend who is playing it for the first time and got stuck. I couldn't remember the part he was on, so I played a new game up to that point (the fight with Kraid and getting the Varia suit).

I've been playing 'Beneath a Steel Sky' on recommendation of Gabe and Yahtzee. It's...alright? I 'unno, point and clicks aren't my cup of tea and the story's fairly generic, but the dialogue's pretty funny and most of the puzzles are clever.

I was surprised to find out that Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura was released as recently as 2001, so in fact the oldest game I've played recently is Theme Hospital which is from 1997.

I was playing all the way through Arcanum for the first time though, whereas Theme Hospital was just a quick play for nostalgia's sake. And since I have now completed an old-school isometric RPG I feel like I can be as rude about them as I like without having to worry about being insulted!

I would have said Persona 3 FES, but then I remembered that I've been playing Sonic Advance whenever I've gotten bored recently.

I currently have a game of Master of Orion (1993) windowed if that counts. Gotta love DOSBox...

You've got to remember that the story is only 'generic' because it's been copied a lot since. When BaSS came out in '94 it's story was pretty fresh and intriguing. Sure, it borrows from 1984 and Blade Runner quite heavily, but it's still a good yarn for all that.

I played through Beneath a Steel Sky again just a few days ago. It's even better than I remember (and some of the puzzle solutions even make sense to me now!)

Vampire: The Masquerade - Redemption.
A bit repetitive, but a walk though memory lane.

Never played AoE 2. I've only played; the first one (gold edition so with expansions) which was awesome, age of mythology which i think is one of the best stategy games I have ever played (if you haven't played it find it and buy right it now!), and the 3rd which was kinda disappointing and the interface thingy at the bottom was ugly and took up way too much of the screen.

I've gotta try it some time.

Right now I'm on morrowind with the overhaul mod and it's amazing, though not very well optimized. My computer is decent but the overhaul mod takes it's toll on it, I'm only getting 20-30 fps on it even though it's a 10 year old game that mod takes a lot.

The original Shin Megami Tensei. Still better than this generation's J-RPGS, man... wish they made them like this still.

Homeworld 2 was the last old game that I played recently. I'd forgotten how much I loved the Homeworld games. It's sad that the franchise has been left to rot for so long.

I don't think I've ever played another RTS where I actually cared about my units as much as i did in the Homeworld games. You really sort of get attached (well i did anyway) to them because you are always out numbered (thanks dynamic enemy fleet manager thingy) and the enemy is always tailored to be a good counter to the type of craft you have in your fleet. Add to that the beautifully atmospheric music, and a decent plot then you've got a hell of a good game

Oh and also

As graceful and fleet of foot as a cow but utterly devastating to the enemy when it finally arrives to the battle.
