I never managed to beat the final boss in FF9.

Mt friend did, so I know the ending, but I never actually finished it myself.
Same goes for FF12. I still WANT to finish it, but the damn story is just so boring.
I still haven't completed a final fantasy game, despite owning/playing 1-4, then 8-12(not including the wierd 11th one. Closest I've come is on 3 where I aced my way through the game, then got killed by the final boss, after having spent the 2 hours getting there without being able to save ¬,¬. On 9, which is probably my favourite I've got stuck on the 3rd disk every time, and on 10 I can't be arsed to do the grinding that will let me kick the finall bosses ass!
I am right there with you. I owned final fantasy 3, 7-10, and 12... The only one I ever finished (yet) was 7.

Both of the Banjo-Kazooie games. I got stuck on both of them when I was about 60-70% through it

Probably Tomb Raider 2.... I somehow nwver got around to finishing the last little bit...probably because a newer, better Tomb Raider game came out and distracted me =P

I...still haven't finished Perfect Dark!

*Weeps*

I keep meaning to, but that fucking Skedar leader keeps kicking my arse so much I just give up!
Yeah, that game kicked my butt too. I still haven't finished Battletoads, for the NES. Does that mean I win the thread for having the oldest game? Although I never finished Pong...

Deus Ex, Goldeneye and Banjo Tooie... not sure if those last two count since I actually only got them a few months ago, but I was too busy to look at them much.

PSone's Vagrant Story. That game is the freakin' bane of my existence. The daggone risk meter is so clumsy; whenever I try to fight the last guy, my risk meter is always so high I do no damage and end up get wiped out. I've tried to beat that game off and on for years. I experienced a resurgence in hatred for it when I dusted it off to play in my PS3...damn you Ashley!

Ninja Gaiden for the NES, got close a couple of times but it seems impossible.
My friend swears that he beat ninja gaiden 2 when he was a kid. I went out and bought a used copy and now I'm going to make him prove it :p
As for myself I am still trying to beat Castlevania 1. The hallway before death always leaves me in no condition to actually beat him, but I am not giving up. It's not as hard as the ninja gaiden games anyway.

I've got a few games for my Genesis I've never been able to finish despite having them for most of my life.

Rocket Knight Adventures - A great game but it always got tough near the end and I'd run out of lives/continues.
Captain America and the Avengers - Same as above
Cool Spot - Ditto

I will beat all three of these titles before I die, it may be next week, it may be years from now.

I've got a few others from recent generations that are on my list as well.

GTAIV (360)
Final Fantasy XII (PS2)
Metroid Prime 2 (GC)
Mass Effect (360)

Zork. Played it when I was a wee lad on my parents' Apple II, but never got around to finishing it. Even in the age of gamefaqs and other online walkthroughs, I haven't bothered to finish it. One of these days...

I've played every major Final Fantasy game except the MMO 11. And never finished any of them. I get to the end...then get the airship. Do sidequests. Take a "break" from the game. Never go back...

for those wondering how I played them all...

Final Fantasy: Dawn of Souls (GBA)
Contained 1 and 2

Final Fantasy 3 (DS)

Final Fantasy 4 (PS1, GBA, DS)
Owned 3 versions. None beaten.

Final Fantasy 5 (GBA)

Final Fantasy 6 (GBA)

Final Fantasy 7 (PS1)

Final Fantasy 8 (PS1)
My favorite. And the one I plan on finishing after 13.

Final Fantasy 9 (PS1)

Final Fantasy 10 (PS2)

Final Fantasy 12 (PS2)
I'm kind of the same. Have all the PS versions of FF, started most of them, but never continued them. Need to start one up sometime.

Rome: Total War, I never really got into it when it was released, but it's a pretty great game.

Too many to list, but 'It Came From The Desert' on my Amiga 500 was always an uncrackable enigma to me when I was a kid.
