taking the risk of completely blowing your mind, im going to venture that under the helmet chief looks like that short-brown haired white guy that plays 90% of all leading roles in video games and movies alike.
whatever gordon freeman sounds like should valve decide voice him, as long as it isnt ridiculous (cockney accent, south african accent, gilbert godfreid, etc.), ill be fine with it; he REALLY needs to say SOMETHING. i know valve wants to keep him just an arm and a crowbar for the player to project onto, but i just end up feeling like a complete dolt throughout most of the game. have him correct a mathematical error made by kleiner, anything.

As for Freeman, I think he's actually mute, and doesn't know any means to communicate without language. I understand the various reasons and advantages to having a silent protagonist, however the way he actively gets volunteered constantly for extremely dangerous stuff without a care in the world as if it was totally normal suggests either he has no way of protesting, or that everyone but him actually knows he's actively being assisted in the shadows by some weird alien loosely attempting to appear human.
