All right, you know what I always wanted? Well, thanks for asking! I always wanted to see what Oblivion was like with the Shivering Isles add on. Well, today I decided to pursue my dreams and look for the fucker.

And you know what's strange? Apparently this add on is actually worth more than Oblivion. How does that make any fucking sense O:? The average worth of Oblivion alone is around 12 - 14 depending on where you buy. For the latter lets use Gamestop as an example, shall we?

So, yeah, $14. And here's how much the GOTY edition costs -

thirty fucking four dollars. Now, I'm not the best at math but I do know for damn sure that the part of the game that costs 14 dollars isn't the expensive halve of the game. Let me clarify -
Oblivion, an entire game, costs 14 dollars meanwhile Shivering Isles which is an add on that adds a few new content is 18 dollars.

Of course though you're probably not quite convinced. Well, all right, fine. Then here's my beatiful ugly truths: (I love how absolutely ironic that came out) According to a quick google search in a lot of places you can get Oblivion for $12 dollars. So I thought maybe I should try buying Oblivion alone and download Shivering from PSN . . .

And apparently, that's worse. It costs around $29 for shivering isles. Do I really need to go on by this point? I think it's been fairly established that I'm fucked. Either I pay 34$ (And that's forgetting the tax) for a game that should probably be only worth 26 dollars (14 + 12 if I'm feeling kind) or 22 dollars. (12+10)

Or, you know, I could pay for Oblivion alone ($12) and buy shivering isles seperately ($29 dollars, what the fuck?!) which comes to a maximum of around 41 dollars. I am baffled, why is it that in all these instances shivering costs more? And for a poor little cheap skate like my self with little to no more money do you know some good places where I could get a better deal?

Preferably one where the DLC is actually cheaper than the bloody game.

Discussion value -

Well, besides helping a poor soul out maybe you can enlighten and educate me as of why the DLC is so bloody expensive.

Shivering Isles, In my opinion was worth the full DLC price I paid, and doesn't the GOTY edition come with all of the other DLC as well? Knights of the Nine, Horse Armour (sigh) etcetera?

The Shivering Isles is really really big for one thing. The GOTY edition of Oblivion has the Shivering Isles, Oblivion and Knights of the Nine.

I cant speak for anyone else but for me it makes perfect sense considering that the shivering isles was simply better content than all of Oblivion put together. I would buy the shivering isles as stand alone content if it were possible. No i am NOT a TES of Oblivion fan in the slightest. Perhaps thats why I liked TSI, because it deviates from the TES mold.

EDIT: Also you could buy Oblivion 5th annivesary for 30$ and get 10$ off skyrim in the process plus all the content, plus a metal case.

I used to own a regular copy of Oblivion (The $12-14 dollar versions) and it came included with knights of the nine. So with that in mind I don't really count it as any new content in the GOTY edition. And I apologize, I probably should have mentioned I intend on buying the PS3 version.

Lol, horse armour. I really hope that's not where the additional cost is going.

GOTY is ALL the expansions not just Shivering Isles, I got it off steam since I sold my Xbox and wanted to keep playing Oblivion and I have everything:

-Knights of the Nine
-Shivering Isles
-Mehrunes Razor
-Fixing the Orrery
-Horse Armour
-Frostcrag Spire
-Battlehorn Castle
-Spell Tomes
-Deepscorn Hollow
-Thieves den

$18 for that lot? Bargain.

Soo . . . it costs less then GOTY, has the same content as GOTY, and lets you get Skyrim for ten dollars less? My fucking god, that sounds awesome. What retail stores do you believe I could get it?

I never knew all that content existed with the GOTY edition. I checked website after website and the only things it said it had was nights of the nine (which PS3 oblivion copies already have) and shivering isles. This thread has been helpful and I thank you for your contribution ^.^.

Because Shivering Isles isn't a DLC it's an expansion pack. Similar to Blood Moon and Tribunal for Morrowind. Also if you bought the game of the year edition this wouldn't even be an issue.

I enjoyed Shimmering Isles and looked forward to it on replays. It's really a nice landing for your adventure (better than just being recognized as a hero and getting a meh suit of armor if you happen to be high-level already the way the main plot lands you). However, the "random loot" distribution of quested armor / weapons in a shared two-set pattern was annoying as hell and fail. Other than that, totally worth the $

Well Im presuming from your profile your Canadian. So I have no clue what retail locations you have accessible to you.

However I can see on Amazon.ca that the price is a little higher based on exchange rate from USD to CDN. - Price for PS3 incarnation being 34.99-40.15

Still worth checking out just for the skyrim MIR

Hey - on a related note, since the Oblivion gang seems to be all here - did they de-bug the most recent release of Oblivion? I'd buy it just for that factor, but I read somewhere it is exactly the same as before just re-issued? Anyone know?

I thought it only came with Shivering Isles and NotN. Or is that only if you buy it pre-owned or on xbox? Do the rest usually have download codes?

Shivering Isles add a continent about 1/3rd or Cyrodiil, with really awesome mainquest and most creative atmosphere from the times of Morrowind. It's cost is quite adequate.
