So, if this survey was done in America and had the same results, how much money would you be willing to bet that this thread would be less "Well, they were obviously joking" and more "HAHA LOOK AT THE DUMB AMERICANS GOD YOU'RE ALL SO STUPID"?

Well then i have filled my quota of helping people discover new things for the day :)
I find the term 'Sing' woefully misleading... but still, I'll bite.
Try going on youtube and look for videos of the sun "singing", or earth for that matter.

It's a completely open survey...

I don't think we need Sherlock Holmes to realise this is a number of people playing a joke.

In fact I'm going to join them!

'Can stars sing?' *Yes*
And with this we can safely say: /thread.

Actually they can...
No, they can't. They don't have vocal cords. Furthermore, they are incapable of consciously producing melodies or rhythms, so the verb 'sing' cannot possibly be used to describe any of a star's mechanical functions.

Well, at least this proves that not all the idiots are in America. Each country has their fair share.

Uh, yeah. Pretty weird.

But the question about 'hoverboards' is misleading. Back to the future style gravity defying boards do not exist.

But there are some number of people that have built 'hoverboards' based on the 'ground effect' principle. (otherwise known as the thing that allows hovercraft to work...)

That's an inherent flaw with yes/no questions, and, ironically, lack of knowledge on the part of researchers.

OT: Wow, really? I knew some of us were dumb, but wow.

Calumon: But, if Lightsabers aren't real, how does a Jedi make toast?

Yeah I'm thinking they are reasoning along the lines of "I can see the apple fall, therefore I can see gravity". Not that farfetched really.

Oh dear fucking god my faith in the UK system for science education is getting less and less every year.
It's already bad enough that when I have to tutor 1st year physics undergrads I spend hours teaching each one what a fucking matrix is. If next year I'm going to have to fully explain gravity then I'm quitting now.

I was thinking the same thing. However, we're the "loud and obnoxious" ones.

We're all the same. The majority of us aren't intelligent. Also, for every smart person out there, there are at least two to three extremely dumb people. It really doesn't matter if you're British or American. Also, yes some are trolling, but only a small percent. Trolling is as much etched into your culture as humor, as it is in ours.

Everyone needs to get down from their high horse and realize it's not a national thing but a global epidemic.

You know I actually got quite a number of those questions wrong myself. Like the spray-on solar cells, and the singing stars...

It also doesn't help that the questions are being asked in a very misleading manner, like they're trying to get you to answer no so you'll be like "Really? You can hear stars make noise? How cool and futuristic!"

Not saying it isn't cool, but to call people stupid because they fell for questions that were most likely designed to make you answer one thing instead of the other is a bit crude.

...the point I'm trying to make is that I'm not stupid, damnit! >.>

This is most likely a joke. Open survey, town completely populated by chavs and a particularly controlling ex girlfriend of mine is = to saying "HEY, MESS WITH OUR SURVEY!"

And on the concept of seeing gravity, depending on how it was worded, people might just be like, "course I can! *drops penny* see! Gravity!"

I'm thinking dubiously worded questions are to blame.

-Lightsabers do exist you can go into your local entertainers and buy one for your child.
-Hoverboards do exist it's just that they are air cushion ones rather than anti gravity
-Memory erasing technology does exist its called, drugs consult your local pharmacist/drug dealer

The gravity thing is probably trolling or an improperly worded question.

Also there is the fact that only a certain type of person responds to a survey so the result is for one fifth of that type of person and cannot be generalized.

Also if we are handed surveys we never take them seriously; even our government sent census ones.
Exactly, while I don't doubt that there are those dumb enough to believe this, I'm betting that most of those responces are either Brits being brits ie sarcastic and mocking, tending tro joke for the hell of it or; people interperating the questions in a different manner than intended ie toy lightsabers exsist, you vcan make a hoverboard from parts found at a car boot sale, and you can see the effects of gravity.

I mean for gods sakes people!
We state with conviction that the welsh shag sheep, that and we have a number of registered Jedi.
