Also - If the interviewer asks "Can you see gravity?" the question itself seems so absurd that people will immediately attempt to contextualize it. They are being polled on science, i.e. their intelligence. This will immediately place poll subjects in a state of vulnerability, worried of "trick questions" that will make them appear stupid. Most people who answered yes to that question probably went through an internal translation of "Can you see gravity work?" Hence, yes answers.

You can use surveys to prove any kind of bullshit, depending on how the questions are phrased. Here is an example:

Do you not think Lightsabers exist? Yes/No?

Even if one bothers to read the question good enough, which most voluntary participants to this stuff won't, the quality of the answer is to be discusses.

Yes, Lightsabers do exist. As a fictional contruct in Star Wars.
Different professions have different interpretations of "exists" a scientist might laught at the claim of their existance, but a copy right Lawyer won't.

It is all too understandable for common folks to have even more varied definitions.

"sure i do, infact the real question is, who doesnt own one?! my town is literaly knee deep in chavs keeping everyone awake with their constant lightsaber duels!"

If you ask a stupid question your going to get a stupid answer.
I think this. British people are so sarcastic its hard to tell what we actually think half of the time.

please let it be this. it's so my sense of humor to say i believe in all those things listed. whats worrying me though is that surely a typical Brit would get the sarcasim

This is a perfect example of why you shouldn't trust results from surveys.

People love to tick off the more entertaining answers, instead of answering truthfully.

Is The Escapist trolling us? That's pretty hilarious. I'd expect such a clever website to tell us that this survey is too invalid to draw a worthwhile conclusion from. However, that in itself would be an insult to our intelligence! Well played.

Also look up the "Screw you effect" in relation to gathering information.

This just in, 1/5 also treat surveys as a joke.

Although seriously on the "seeing gravity" part. How was the question actually explained? Was it at all? No, you can't see you the force itself, but let's say I hold out an apple, drop it, and it falls then go "that's gravity". I'm certainly not wrong, and I can certainly see people responding to a survey without distinguishing between gravity being visible and the effects of gravity being visible.
