Apparently the website OneManga.com is shutting down due to the fact that manga producers and developers decided that having free scanlations of their products online was bad. As sarcastic as that sounded, this really sucks because OneManga is where I read 90% of my manga. Not because I wanted it for for free mind you, but because I wanted it as it came out in Japan and not as it came out in America (if it ever came out in America at all). I mean, where else could one find Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and the old Fist of the North Star books?

EDIT: Please note that they said they will have most of of their content up for the next week. After that, its all gone. If you are currently reading something, then hurry the hell up.

Aww man. I only follow bleach, and I still think that sucks. At least I have tons of games to keep me occupied.

Same thing happened to a formerly free anime site I liked. Now they only show some stuff, and you have to pay. They could have waited for me to finish Azumanga Daioh first atleast...it sucks in english cause of the souther belle voice dubs give to characters from Osaka Japan.

If you are looking for a huge archive of Manga, both translated and in original Japanese text, MangaFox.com is a free scanlation site that has a wide variety of Manga from mainstream to a few lesser known products. You might wanna try them if you still need a good site for free Manga. :)

Wow, sorry to hear. I use to go on OneManga, but not anymore since my school started a manga section in the library (even though it is a small one...)
And I usually can't get a ride to my local Barnes and Nobles to pick up/read anything.
I have heard of Lucifer and Biscuit Hammer, but never knew what it was, and I have read a book of Fist of The North Star, but that was because my dad rented a video of it, and it was a long time ago.
Well, there are some other sites out there for manga, and I would usually have a hard time trying to find a site that had anime on it.

It's sort of sad that publishers are making them do this. After all, most manga series that I decided were worth getting a copy of, I discovered on OneManga. It felt easier reading the first few chapters online and seeing if I liked it than trying to find the first book of the series in rows upon rows of books that from the side looked very similar, and then reading them in the store. While I didn't buy every series I read, the ones I liked the most at least were looked for in stores.

This closing down will probably mean that I'll probably give up on most manga, just like I did with anime when that great purge went around. I don't really browse the manga section in stores as much as I used to, and now I'll probably do so even less since I won't have found any series online that I liked.

Also, I'm obligated to point out to publishers here that reading online =/= a lost sale.

Don't assume you're in the clear just yet, MangaFox may be the next one to go down.

This news is pretty bad for those who read manga online because their favorite series' aren't, and possibly won't ever be, published in English. I really don't see this getting these publishers any more income. Quite the opposite, I suspect that many well meaning but misguided fans will decide the best way to show their dislike is to stop purchasing manga from these publishers. The people who didn't buy manga because they didn't have the money still won't, so they'll either give up on it entirely or start getting their manga directly from the scanlation source.

It's a sad day for manga, to be sure. Now, if you'll excuse me, I need to find a way to continue reading Liar Game and The World God Only Knows.

They just going to force it underground. If people can't view it online, they're going to download/torrent it. I think it's easier if they keep it on the surface where they can keep track of it, at least.

Liar Game is so good.

I loved One manga too. I find that it updated much more regularly than other sites like Mangafox and having them die really upsets me.

goodanime.net

animeseason.com

Between both those sites I've never had any trouble with anime, aside from Desert Punk, which switches to a dub after the first episode and I can't find the whole series subbed anywhere, which sucks because episode one was awesome.

I heard that digital distribution compagny are picking up some steam, that why so many free translation site have receved Cease and Desist. In the mean time, legal compagny will start taking over your favorite series, either for a small subscription fees or by add revenue.

There's also AnimeFreak.com, that has manga. Whether it has all the new stuff or just some of the first few issues is something I'm not sure of.

Not only onemanga, but also mangatoshokan which hosted a hell of a lot of stuff onemanga didn't. Oh well, there are still plenty of other places to get them from though.

Goddamnit! I was reading Bleach, Negima! and One Piece on OneManga too. its gonna take fucking 2 years just to get to the point it was at on OM in the book form over here -.-

I mean seriously, the volumes over here most be atleast 100+ chapters behind what is up on OM and they take like 2/3 months just to get the new volume out in book form...

I prefer to pay... I like to support my favorites...
I'm fine with paying for my manga(Hell, I have 3 bookcases full of JUST manga volumes), but I liked One Manga for three big reasons:

1) It allowed me to read series that haven't been released in English.(For example, Beelzebub, Steel Ball Run, Liar's Game)

2) It allowed me to read the most recent chapters, rather than just up to what the official publishers have released. Most English releases tend to be anywhere from a couple months to a few years behind the Japanese release.(In the most extreme case of this, the English release of Detective Conan/Case Closed is EIGHT YEARS behind the Japanese release)

3) This happens a bit less often then in anime releases, but occasionally English publishers do edit the original work, whether it's for localization or censorship, and I don't really like when that happens.
-3b) Just a little side note on this, I also like how most scanlation groups will explain some parts/jokes if they don't make perfect sense in translation. I think the only English publisher I've seen do this was Del Ray for their Fairy Tail volumes.

... You realizes there's plenty of other, and mostly better sites, that actually have scans of stuff they say they do in their list, instead of half the content being broken or removed like at that site, right? You could even just find each individual thing you'd want on tons and tons of other sites.
