sweet mercy, are these people attempting to knock PETA of the throne for silliest activists?

I wonder what'll be next, perchance a game involving catching the gay?

I let out a grand old sigh as soon as I saw the title, sadly it lived up to my expectations.

My question to them would be; why can't you simply explain to your child that god or whoever does not condone homosexuals and nor should you, assuming you want to abuse your right as a parent. And instead of running off and fighting everyone else on the god damn planet, stay home and parent your child.

You don't need to be an activist in order to be homophobic.

Wait wait wait... so Catwoman #1 after the reboot ends with Batman and Catwoman having sex:

1- they wait until now to have problems with DC, and 2- they still think these comics are for kids?

Huh.

To be fair, so many groups in the US use the word "indoctrinate" in completely ridiculous situations that this is hardly new or surprising. It's still completely ridiculous, though.

When did "family" become a euphemism for "uptight conservative killjoys"?
The eighties.

Possibly earlier. Hell, I think I remember "family values" being used to keep people down in the fifties.

And 3, hasn't there been at least one lesbian couple in the DC Universe for a while?

Mostly 2, though.

What I'd like to know is, what do they have against homosexuals? Where do they get the idea the homosexuality is bad? Why do they hate it so much?

Just... Why? That's the only thing I'd like to know.

So I'm a dad, and the mother of my children has a tendency to fly of the handle and go on little crusades. She's not a complete idiot (sorry "ex-" might also provide context) but there were many times when I sat there looking after the pram while she went off at whoever had her ire...

So, context out the way, I'm sure that alongside the million moms there are a million dads all facepalming and quietly thinking "Dear god, it doesn't matter for christssake".

Good sir, even with context, you just gave me hope in humanity, at least a little bit.

OT: Although I'm pretty on the fence about my religion, and honestly about "gay" exposure to children**, this is just sad. My local comic book store sees high schoolers and maybe their middle school aged siblings as young as it gets. Most are college+. Kids at that age don't really have "idols" that aren't real. Most kids I know that do have "unreal" idols are obsessed with much worse idols. Also, I don't see how a gay superhero (my monies on Green Lantern, cause I'm broke, I don't care, and it'd be hilarious imho), as someone stated above who is still a gosh dern superhero over someone like Miley Cyrus who basically promotes lying/deception for personal gain with the whole Hannah Montana story. *edits out Miley Cyrus rant*

At least it's nice to know many others are just face-palming. All we can do now is hope they die out, or go crazy from pent up sexual frustrations they can't express and kill each other. >.>" I suppose it's dying out either way, but you know what I mean.

** Story: In high school my two best friends suddenly decided they were lesbian and in love with each other. This is after 6+ years of all three of us oogling over guys (I'm also a chick). Part of me thinks that they just "discovered" they were lesbian because it'd be the easiest way to piss off their parents and they were tired of being rejected by guys. To me, they chose the "easy way out." Now I understand that I could be reading into it too much, and even if I'm not, it's completely within their rights to love whoever they want I feel that they kinda made this choice because they were kids. Now this doesn't mean kids should be shielded from homosexuality or anything people are uncomfortable with, if anything maybe they should be exposed to it more, so they wouldn't think it would grab them the attention they desired (when they did get together they did kinda shove it in many people's faces, which did eventually cause our friendship to fall out when I realized I was very much a 3rd wheel).

@ ChickNaney: "They" are referring to several bits of biblical scripture, notably Leviticus 18. "They" believe that God considers homosexuality "an abomination" and fear that God will smite the United States if "they" don't speak out against said homosexuality and act to "stem the tide" of "immorality" and whatnot.

It doesn't make much sense to me, either: God (per the Bible) doesn't need any mortal's help to smite "sinners" (presuming His existence)--he can alter reality at a whim. If God wanted to destroy a country for tolerating homosexuals in a pluralistic society, He doesn't need to recruit the likes of Fred Phelps and his ilk.

As far as the iconic DC character "coming out": I say it's Wonder Woman. That way, it wouldn't be such a massive surprise.

If it's one of the males: it would be intriguing if it were Superman, but that would be the death knell of DC Comics--heck, it'd probably destroy Time-Warner. (Batman and Aquaman would be too easy.)

But that's from the Old Testament, isn't it? Christianity doesn't follow that, from what I know. It also says that women shouldn't be given a voice of power, which OMM is clearly trying to do.

1) They're conservative Christians, and there are plenty of things in the Bible that can be taken to condemn homosexuality. (Though, like the vast majority of the Bible, there can be multiple interpretations, and many people argue that the sections they use from the old testament are either A) taken out of context; B) are old parts of the Jewish Law that are superseded by the golden rule introduced by Jesus; or C) some combination of both. But on the other side, Paul (who was the major one who argued that the law is superseded by love) was even then also very anti-homosexual. Frankly, I'm of the opinion that the Christian tradition is completely freaking schizophrenic and can be interpreted pretty much however you want to interpret it.

2) Even outside of Christianity there haven't been many societies that have openly accepted homosexuality. Some gay rights activists try to combat this idea, but they're largely wasting their time. Like it or not, homosexuality is at least something of an abnormality on the societal level.

LISTEN UP PEOPLE, THE FACT OF WHETHER HOMOSEXUALITY IS NATURAL OR UNNATURAL/HISTORICALLY ACCEPTED OR REJECTED IS PRETTY MUCH COMPLETELY IRRELEVANT TO THE QUESTION OF WHETHER OR NOT WE SHOULD ACCEPT IT, NO MATTER WHICH WAY YOU ANSWER THE QUESTION. For a long time the historically dominant view was that the world was flat. It makes no sense for Christians to argue that homosexuality is unnatural because Christian doctrine is rabidly anti-nature. Seriously, wtf? Christianity is anti-heterosexual sex, and no one can deny that that is natural. I'm not even going to go into the doctrine of original sin, or the Manichean influence on Christianity, or the idea of the lion laying down with the lamb, etc.
