played my human wizard to level 7 and hated every bit of that crappy system. It has way to limited customization.
With me, the people I played 3rd and 3.5 were way too rules lawyery. So I personally didn't enjoy having some of the group go through like 50 books looking for obscure rules, making overly broken characters and insisting it was ok 'cause it was in the rules. I was very happy I wasn't the dm with them. The way I tend to rune games is fairly rules light. I keep simple mechanics, and more or less improv everything else.As an experiment for a one shot, I had everyone play the same "character" stats and skills were the same for everyone, and by the end of that session even though all the stats were the same, the characters themselves became radically different.

I'm mainly curious, what did you see as a lack of options? Like wizard spells, or backgrounds or etc?

you should check the wizards of the coast website, they probably have a play by post section where you could look for recources.
theres always the http://www.d20srd.org/ in case you need any 3.5 rules, they are all right there. I think the automatic dice roller site is invisible castle or something. that place lets you record your rolls and show them to others.
