It's almost as bad as online package tracking; refresh, refresh, refresh. Anyone ever used one of these sites and gotten paranoid over why someone isn't replying even though you can see they're online?

Oh and if you happen to be on the escapist too, reply you cad!

[heebie jeebies] I'm making captcha nervous with my crazy spinster talk.

I haven't used dating sites myself but I definitely know the feeling. If someone doesn't reply to a text I think 'Oh no, what I wrote must be stupid/lame/offensive'.
Even here on the escapist I think 'aww no why did I write that. They must think I'm such a moron.'

Hah. If I went on one of those dating sites, I'd be going into a paranoia overdrive! XD

Not sure if I would have the time to actually go on a date either...
(I'd be making excuses all the time. Or just not replying to people! XD)

EDIT: I'd be like "Nah! I'm never ever going to get a reply"

*sees reply*

"OH MY GOD! I GOT A REPLY!"

*runs away to mexico, and slowly inches back to the screen*

EDIT 2:

Like this essentially

I have never actually properly used a dating website but I imagine I would be the same.

Then again when I'm on facebook or texting and I don't get a reply straight away, but have been having a conversation I usually assume it's me before it's something to do with them.

Hey everyone! Look at this clown! Bwahahahaha!

I kid, I kid.

OT: I have never used a dating site before. Although now that Facebook has introduced "seen at xxxx", I've found that when someone takes a while to respond, I end up punishing them by replying an hour or two later.

Bit of a tangent, but apparently there's a (fucking awful) news story just broken about a guy who hated his wife, so he went on Craiglist and made an ad pretending to be her, saying she loved raped fantasies, and she wanted strangers to force themselves on her in her home without warning, and two seperate guys thought this would be a good idea.

That sounds absolutely terrifying.

Nope, never bothered with Online Dating, but I guess first I would have to give a try to real life dating, but I don't want to, as for The Escapist, well I don't because I just assume that no one will ever reply, but when someone quotes me and it's something that I should answer and I really try to respond as fast as possible since it feels rather rude to leave people waiting.

For me, when I used those sites, it was the worst time for my ego. So many women would just never respond. On the one hand, in their profile they would put the sexiest pictures they could find. Then they would say they were tired of guys there talking about how sexy they were. Finally they would ask for someone who would try to engage them.

Which I did. And still, no response. That is the other, sadder hand. It's my belief that as enlightened as everyone wants to pretend to be ('I want someone who I can converse with', 'someone who's family oriented', 'someone who's caring', etc), we're all still driven by who gives us tingles in our nethers.

Apologies to the forum for the use of the word 'nethers'. I saw Serenity again to check if it was still unbelievably awesome. It was.

I know that some sites, I don't know which one you are on, use fake profiles to draw people into their site, send messages out on behalf of the members and if it is a site that allows women to join for free then men will be bombarded with spam and scam messages none stop.

Yes I have joined a dating site once, that was not good for my ego, mind you by the time I actually finished setting up my profile, I was thoroughly sick of the site and wanted out, but I had still got a month left to go so didn't really make much of an effort, my profile picture was less "come to bed" and more "girls found butchered in sicko's basement".

I should probably try again with one seeing as I don't really meet that many women doing my job.

One of the main reasons I've never tried online dating is that when I inevitably get no interest/replies, I could get rather down. As in homicidally so.

So I guess I would get paranoid, to say the least.

my ex-girlfriend made an online dating account for me and for herself about a year and a half ago on this free dating website, just for "shits n giggles" you know...her words
My ex's had responses coming in left right and center the day after she made them

I never kept track of mine - and when I did break up just recently (two months ago maybe..) I remembered and went to go delete it. No responses. Cant say I wasnt a little bit disappointed.

but from some of my guy mates that have accounts as well on the same site, its the norm apparently.

It's really annoying. All of the local women on the site are the complete opposite of my type and the women that I think would be worth perusing a relationship with are miles away.
On the rare occasions I do find someone local worth talking to, they seem to stop responding with no rhyme or reason.
Urgh.

Never used online dating sites, I met my dude online the old fashioned way (In an aol chat room) Eventually, after a good number of years, when I was pretty sure he wasn't a psycho killer (or anything else questionable) I met him in person and we've been dating ever since, (a little more than 4 years)

I do get paranoid on DeviantArt when people don't respond back to art trades. I think they hate what I drew for them.

I don't believe in dating let alone online dating. A majority of females on this planet believe that their looks are important and their intelligence can take a back seat in life, hell not even that, most of the time intelligence is left a hole somewhere.

I'd rather not interact with females that slather pig fat all over their faces, cover themselves with skimpy clothing and have troubles contorling their own emotions.

I'm a dedicated kind of being, when I see my one and only I'll know it. I'm quite comfortable knowing there's a possibility that I'll die without meeting such a being.

In the end, I'm still living and dating remains irrelevent to me.

Way to generalise there buddy.
Also, why would you bother to post in this thread?

My one adventure with eHarmony was a disaster.

They guarantee three matches in 90 days. I didn't get one. Then I called them to ask what they do in the event that no match is found, they said they extend the subscription until you get the guaranteed three matches.

After they had to extend my sub an additional three months, I called them back to ask something along the lines of "Seriously???"

Then, a week or two later, I got an email that they had found a match.

With someone 100 miles away.

With no picture on the profile.

No personal information.

Only a name:

Dorko. No last name. Just "Dorko".

I cancelled my sub the next day.

Why does the fact you don't like most women you meet mean you don't believe in dating at all? Surely that would just make you more selective? (Which is no bad thing.)

When you meet your "one and only", you will almost certainly go through some kind of "dating" phase, whether you call it that or not. Unless you're planning on proposing to a woman you just met, or getting your parents to arrange a match for you. (I'm not trying to slander either of those options, they're just not really the norm in the Western world. *shrug*)
