Well it actually is in a bit, you control one guy that you control through some sort of a story mode, that's an RPG element right there.

...no, it's really not in the least bit. It's narrative, not RPG and just because narrative is a focal and standard part of RPGs, it does not make Assassin's Creed one.

And I wasn't saying it was one, I was saying it had an RPG "bit" in it. So we agree, it's not an RPG but has the narrative.

If you are going to say it's "kinda like" an RPG just because of that, then yeah... Assassin's Creed is "kinda like" Need For Speed Underground too.

xD true true... Too bad Need for Speed Underground is not set in the 1500s, maybe it would've qualified for this topic... (Medieval free roaming racers ftw!)

Well, yes. Any game can be boiled down to an RPG, in the same sense that all games are linear.

Dwarf Fortress.

What about Dwarf Fortress. Theres a liner progression of events (One event leading on to the next, like it's in a straght line). And you Play the Role of the guy who commands the Dwarfs.

In any video game you play be it chess, drafts, the 2008 Olympics, Halo 3, Halo 2, Halo wars, Halo 1, world of warcraft, Dwarf Fortress, Star wars Battlefront, Star wars battlefront 2 or God of war 2 You play as something, be it the chess player, the drafts player, the athelt in the 2008 olympics ect. Thus you Play a Role, hence. Role Playing Game.

Nope, it's really nothing like that. You can go on having a skewed view of something.. for whatever purpose it serves you, I don't really know... but there's a definitive difference between role-playing and a role-playing game.

Well fine. Help me see things from your point of view, whats the difference between a role palying game and a game where you play a role?
