Opinion on Halo Reach?

I thought the Beta was god-awful. I hated most everything about it. Hated the new guns, hated the reticule bloom, hated the special moves (sprinting as a special move made me angry). Dissapointed by the graphics as well, seeing as how Bungie had been harping on about how much better they would be than previous games. Turns out it looks worse than Halo 3.

'Blurry'. Very blurry. Muted colours. Poor textures. I always like how Halo had been colourful, it stood out from the greys and browns of other games (nothing wrong with games like that per se). Now it looks just like them, at least to me. Only played a couple of games and every game was the on the same damn map so who knows maybe the blurry graphics complaint can be dropped.

Even if the game had graphics like Uncharted 2 it would not excuse the piss poor, routine Halo gameplay that refuses to change...

Hell even Halo ODST was better than this.

But then comes the Reach beta and I'm once again engaged by the multiplayer. Not the least of the reasons why is the social options available to tweak the type of players you are going to be matched with. The option to look for other players interested in a nice, respectful, quiet game makes a lot of difference. Of all my games during the beta, I only had one or two really obnoxious players who managed to sneak into the games I was in. Imagine it. No yelling at the top volume, no racial slurs, no "press X to veto" every bloody game even if it looks like a fun match... ugh.
Can somebody elaborate on this, please? I haven't played the beta and this sounds pretty interesting.

There is a set of options in the matchmaking menu called "Social Settings" or something like that. While in the menu you can choose a certain set of options that will tell matchmaking the type of game you hope to get. Are you a person who prefers quiet companions? Are you all about winning or do you like a more relaxed experience. etc. There are about 4 or maybe 5 tweaks you can make.

Of course it's just as likely that the options did nothing and I just happened to get lucky with more quiet respectful players, but since it never happened once in Halo 3 I'm inclined to think they helped at least a little.

Did that answer your question?

That's pretty cool. I hated being forced to play with groups of hollering twelve year olds, and it's always fun to devise tactics with nice people online.

Reach will be beyond incredible, however people will hate it for being the same game halo has always been.

the Halo series has done the near impossible, it made first person shooters on consoles. before that shooters were clunky hard to control and bland, then along comes a little title called halo: combat evolved. Not only that but halo didn't stop there it got better. Added weapons, removed things that didn't work, and above all tried things. Halo has evolved almost scientifically. Making small measurable changes each installment, refining what works, while fixing, balancing or out right removing what doesn't. the down side to that is the multi-player has had the same basic game play for almost ten years.
