In the earlier seasons, Family Guy was hilarious. It was joke after joke after joke, and it didn't stop until the end credits came. The characters were flat but still were likable enough for me to at least sort of care about them, and while the plots weren't anything more complex than your regular sitcom, they were fine for what the show was.

Nowadays, though, the characters have lost whatever depth they once had, the plots have gotten nonexistence even by sitcom standards, and the jokes just aren't there. And then there's the problem with how preachy it's been getting, which wouldn't have necessarily been so bad if not for the fact that it's not funny at all.

Given the results of Family Guy's return, I think I may hold off on signing anymore "Bring back Buffy/Firefly" petitions. I'm just too afraid of what those two shows might become if they are resurrected simply as a vehicle for ratings and increased advertising revenue for the network.
Buffy has been dead for quite awhile and the last seasons were quite...bad.(Tho a remake is in the makings.) And Firefly...well...it had so much potencial to be something...but it got cancelled and now the actors moved on and Whedon doesn't really care that much, now that he has a new show.

But yeaaaahh...Family Guy should have stayed dead.(The show itself made a joke about that. That trhey were only back cause Fox cancelled everything else.)

The only time I ever watch Family Guy is when I want to stop obsessing over trivialities in my life. It seems odd but there is something so completely mind numbing about the show that I stop thinking completely, so much so that I don't even think to be bored. For me Family Guy is basically the ultimate black-hole of television and I have no idea if that means I like it or not.

Meh... I've never had much use for any of these allegedly-shocking-and-edgy fratboy cartoons. Family Guy, South Park... don't get me wrong, I do enjoy a good dick joke too, but, well, I can't help but think of that Frazz strip:

Frazz: What's playing down at Cinema City?
Caulfield: A documentary on the 1996 Everest expedition... and "The Flatulent Frat Boys." Guess which one is rated "For Mature Audiences!"

Yye the show was alot of fun in the beginig i guess cuz back then the ideas were kinda fresh and the show made lots of blunt hits on popular thing plus some hard jokes and insensitivities.
But now its just the same over n over again. . .its all about a couple of scenes that are actualy worth it in every episode. But its a good time killer. maybe watching it while chatting with friends or waiting for ur raid something like that.

But i still adore Stewie there is just something about him that is so cool xD

Hey, that reminds me of that time where I directed a rendition of the musical 'Grease' with an all ex-president cast and a script comprised solely of random cutaways and largely nonsensical 'LOL randum' dialogue.

Yeah, those were good times.

Uh oh, I think this thread needs a distraction! Ladies and Gentlemen, Mr. Conway Twitty!

On a serious note, I love family guy, own every season to date. Some episodes are amazingly funny and some are okay to me, but to me the series never died down. What some people see as a deterioration of the series, is what i see as an evolution or a need to change. Some changes are for better or worse, but sometimes you gotta shake things up for the good of the series.

I think I've kind of moved on. It's not that I stopped enjoying it (despite it's obvious flaws), more like I just exhausted it. I want to watch something else now, please.

I know this is a bit of a retread, but the best moments seem to be with Brian and Stewie, particularly when he is acting like a Bond villain, not like a gay man. Anyways I have watched some recent episodes and they made me laugh, also I prefer it when Peter isn't COMPLETELY retarded and can somewhat function in modern society.

I always seem to enjoy it when I watch it, but it musn't be memorable enough to make me want to go and watch it, as I haven't seen anything past the first five seasons. It reminds me of Married with Children in a way, that show was always funny, yet the characters never developed, there was never a moral to the story and the gags were all just insensitive or toilet humour. Yet it remains one of the funniest shows I've seen, I guess it's just because it's good not to think sometimes to get a laugh.
Actually the plot does develop, not majorly but things such as jobs and occasionally age (I believe).

In any case I enjoy the show, but its alot of hit/miss, maybe its references I don't care about but they have a habbit of sometimes dragging on the stupid jokes which makes it just seem plain pathetic, though I guess this is balanced by the funnier shit.

I used to be a huge fan of Family Guy, but it has just stopped being funny. Sure I'll get a few chuckles out of the new ones, but the older episodes (Season 3 in particular for me) are more funny. It now relies on in-jokes that have been used in previous episodes, like the Chicken Fight segment. Funny at first, but now stale.

Some of the random cut-in bits are funny I have to admit, I think my favourite is probably the breakfast machine.

It has its moments but the manatee jokes can be horribly unfunny. It's also very insulting. South Park can get away with it because it insults everyone but with Family Guy they just pick on a few targets repeatedly. I'm not Christian but when they're practically screaming GOD DOESN'T EXIST through the screen they've taken it to far. Just let them have their beliefs. There's also the fact that the jokes are horribly long and have no punchline (five fucking minutes of Conway Twitty).

It definitely had its golden age, but now it's gone way downhill. And stewie isn't fucking funny. He can be used humorously, but the actual character is NOT FUCKING FUNNY and he ends up with more and more screentime every season. It's like the simpsons, where the main focus shifted to bart and lisa and then the whole thing went to shits.
