Alright. Look here. I'm going to make this as clear as possible. I am writing this right now because of a single reason. I am fucking pissed off. More pissed off than I have been in a long time. I know I made it clear in my previous posts that I didn't really care if Family Guy is offensive or not mainly because it's all in the purposes of humor. But this has gone too far.
As far as "offensive" jokes go, it's pretty obvious Family Guy has done it all. And you know what? That's fine. As long as it's funny, there's no reason to complain too much. It's all in good fun. Stereotypes are fair game, and seeing Jesus lay down the funk is still very entertaining. As a Christian, I can safely say that we have made so many mistakes in history it's not even funny. The same can be said for every religion, race, culture, and society. Exploiting that for a laugh shouldn't really insight wrath and rage, unless there is really a general hatred behind it. We all have a sense of humor, and it's absolutely fine to laugh at yourself.
A friend of mine recently argued that he doesn't care whether Family Guy is bias in anyway because it's still funny. And you know what? I totally see his point. If it's funny, it's okay to laugh. People who freak out over a religious figure appearing in a comedy show or acting in a manner opposite to their believed character should really shut up about it. I mean, there's no actual hatred toward the real character, and it's more like they're just having fun with it, so why all the craze?
So, now after that, you must ask, "Why are you so pissed off? What do you have to be offended for?" I'm not afraid to admit that I am a Christian or that Family Guy is a funny show. And I can take a joke. I know when it's okay to laugh. But I cannot take it when there is no joke. There is nothing to laugh at, and the only reason behind it is that the person has a real hatred toward the subject matter. I can't tell you how to feel, but imagine in my place if someone came up and bold-faced said, "The world would be so much better if Christians did not exist."
Even if you don't believe the Christian faith, can you please tell me the humor in that statement? And could you find it in anyway funny when Seth McFarlane created that exact scenario in the most recent episode of Family Guy? Don't reply to this saying I don't have a sense of humor, or that I'm bitching about this. You have no argument to back you up. The only reason anybody would actually find humor in that is if they too shared the same general hatred for the Christian faith. I mean, did anyone actually laugh when Seth threw that out there?
This is why I am pissed off. Being offensive can be funny, I can totally relate. But, when humor is completely cut out and only hatred fuels the supposed "joke," I have every fucking right to be pissed off to no end. There was no point to the statement other than for the sake of stating it. Don't tell me that Family Guy is not bias, because it is. Don't tell me I don't have a sense of humor, because I do. Don't tell me that you don't care if it's bias as long as it's funny, because it wasn't. Family Guy took an opportunity to put on a serious face, hold off on the funny, and say the world would be better without Christians.
I know a lot of you can't agree with my views because I am a Christian. Everyone has their choice. Everyone has their opinion. But, it would be the same if it was your religion, or lack of, or even race and society. Can you at least agree that they stepped over a line that should not have been crossed?
