Fun in small doses.

You have to watch out that you don't burn out on it as you say the combat is great and even though it does feels a bit like playing a grind at times. It is a good game.

But yeah if you want some pop corn so to say, just two hours of pretty darn good gameplay this game is a good choice. I warn you though just like an MMO... do it to long and you might feel a bit burned out. So keep your play time in smaller blocks of enjoyment.

To much pizza and lasagna is bad for you ;)

I'm still going through the game and enjoying it.

The combat is amazing (and I'm loving the fuck out of chakrams), and the game really allows you to change your style at the drop of a hat, which I like. The story is a bit generic, and the characters can be kind of dull at times, but I still enjoy it. I'm also on the fence about Fate. It's awesomely cinematic and can really turn a losing battle, but it makes things a bit too easy when I can go up to a boss with a full Fate meter, and beat the crap out of it without a problem (though I get less of that problem with final bosses).

Also, yeah, there are way too many side quests, I love some of them (preventing followers of Belen from raising a demon is a particular high point), but the main quest gets stale if you do too many.

I thought it was awesome the first 10 hours, then it just felt more and more dull. Haven't played it since close to release, so I don't remember much more than that.
This is pretty much my experience from playing it last month. Initially I found it great and enjoyed the combat. Then I realized certain combos were just way better than others (I went rogue/mage but by the time I stopped playing I was barely using my knives or bow in favor of spamming the same 2-3 spells every fight) and that the game had a propensity towards giving me loads of fetch or deliver quests that sent me running around for no proper reason at all.

Eventually one day I just couldn't be bothered to launch it.

What a "good" game that was just on the cusp of being great, I'm sad that we'll never seen an Amalur 2 and that the team never had a chance to make the promise of the first game ever really come to fruition.

I thought it started off interesting, but found it grew repetitive, and the crafting mechanic broke any sense of weapon progression, since you could always craft anything better than you could find, which I suppose is still progression of sorts. Still, it'd have been nice to have a reason to use the snazzy-looking gear as opposed to the generic crafted stuff.

The world, story, atmosphere was so meh - disappointing if you went along with some hype - that reasonably enjoyable combat was not sufficient to warrant my additional involvement.

There were characters in the game?

I'm sorry, but there was charm or engaging content in Fable?

I liked Kingdoms of Amalur. I can see others not liking it as it's not that different from a dozen other games. Combat got repetitive after a while. I really, really got sick of dealing with ambush attacks where six or seven monster jump literally out of the ground. Eventually I just started running away from these jerks.

Backstabbing is utterly broken. I managed to clear out dungeons by sneaking in, backstabbing someone, running away until they lost sight of me and went back, then I'd sneak in again, kill someone else. Lather, rinse, repeat. managed to kill some quest objectives this way. Only problem is you can't backstab everything. Spiders, for instance, cannot be backstabbed.

I picked the game up because of the intrigue about your character's ability to alter fate. I was interested to see where they were going with that. Having finished the main quest, I'm still not sure where they were going with that. The explanation was either too simple, too stupid, or just nonsensical. It doesn't make any sense. So that was a letdown.

Most of the humor that the game delivered was enough to motivate a playthrough or two just to see what was going to happen. To me, anyway.

It looks nice....

And the combat is fun enough in the beginning...gets waaaay to easy after a while even on hard difficulty....wich made it too boring for me personally to continue. Killing a boss before it even manages to launch more than a single attack?....come on.

As far as story is concerned....usually I enjoy a good long story...but here it wasn't enough to drag me through all that samey repetitive combat. Too much exposition for my taste.

All the classes play more or less the same aswell.

Overall....I'd call it a rental but it's way too long for that. ;)

It was one of the most boring and tedious games I've tried in the last couple of years. I uninstalled it after about 5-6 hours. An offline WoW with nothing special about it.

Indeed. Fable completely pissed me off. I was in a bad mood and bought the game off a Steam sale and figured it would cheer me up but it only put me in a worse mood. I finally gave up on it when I got the mandatory arena fighting quest because I detest arena fighting the way I detest surprise butt sex while driving.

The parts I found funny were parts that weren't intentional. Or at least I doubt they were. Such as how Maze has a scrotum chin.

I enjoyed it enough to beat it, and I have all but 5 achievements. All which are easy and just require me to play through again (Persuasion Checks, Gathering 10 of all ingredients, reading 50 books, 100 kills with spells, and 500 kills with spells), but I don't have any desire to play it anymore. It might be that I played it through on Hard and used Crafting to break the game, and I still couldn't take damage.

It felt like what it was, an MMO that got turned into a single player game. Don't get me wrong, the combat was amazeballs. I think it was a great system, the main joy I got out of it. However the story was hackneyed and each quest was pretty much, go to this area, kill a bunch of these things, repeat.

It was pretty fun and entertaining right off the bat, then the further you go along the more tedious the game got. Then there were side stories, and maybe some guilds, but from what i rememeber there wasnt much you could do with them. Long story short my apartment burned down and i lost my games and I have no interest in replacing it.

Its kind of a mixed bag. At first I thought it had a really cool story but about an hour into the game I noticed how the lore seemed to contridict itself. For example in the very first town theres this Fey whos been attacked and injured and my first thought was "well shes lucky shes immortal so she wont die from that." I did the quest anyway because, hey why not right? Eventually theres this undertone of Fey can die but they never said death specifically they just danced around it talking about changing seasons. Perhaps this was meant to make the fey seem more alien and if so it worked because I still cant wrap my head around what seems like a blatant contradiction

The combat was good and responsive but the part that made me give it up was how similar to wow it seemed. I quit wow twice, once after burning crusade and again after cataclysm because I no longer liked how unengaging it felt. The same thing happened with KoA, its questing system just became unengaging and I didnt feel like I had a lasting place in the world which is not what you want to do for the "chosen one". Its the same problem Skyrim had you could do a whole bunch of different stuff but you never felt like your world changing ways left a mark on the world

I didn't like it much and I am very forgiving when it comes too fantasy, it is mostly because it is blatantly a failed mmorpg. The environments were amazingly designed at really quite the spectacle I'd go so far as to say beautiful. The character models were a bit odd, they were a little cartoony if you know what I mean...

Had it been a mmorpg then this style would have worked but as its not it just looked a bit half arsed. I only like two styles in my rpgs, and that's realistic (Witcher, Dragon age 2) and anime (Tales series, Fire emblem). The monsters and races were good, I also liked the character customization. I played as some sort of albino elf woman with heavy armour armour, using swords 'n' Frisbee's (I think the Frisbee's were magic). The story also wasn't up to that much so I just gave up, so I couldn't give it a review or anything.

My cat was killed literally whilst I was playing it, I was so traumatised by it I have only revisited the game once. I should probably sell it now that I think about it.

There need to be more games like this on consoles for sure - where the combat is the driving thing behind the gameplay. Tune up the story and the way it progresses, remove the level cap, and it would be just fine. I enjoyed it for a good while, and I also enjoyed the downloadable quests.

I have to say that Dragon's Dogma trumps this game though. If Amalur were to get a sequel, I think it would be a solid, engaging game. Too bad about the shiftiness of the developer and its demise.

I personally love games with combat like this one - Vindictus for PC is another good game for combat, but you have to be carefull with that one if you run into problems.

I'll have to look at world of warcraft. I hope the combat there is just as cool.

I really liked the game but the narrative is a bit strong. If you play it you'll probably push the skip button whenever your talking to the NPC's. The final boss was a little bit forgettable.

I wanted to like it, and put a few hours into it, but I lost interest fairly quickly. I think Yahtzee put it best in his review of it. It's Baby's First Skyrim. Nothing about it really stood out and grabbed me, so I got bored and wandered off to do something else.

I'm too lazy to read this whole thread, so here is my response to the OP.

http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/p/xbox-360-wireless-controller-for-windows

THAT is why they assume you have a 360 controller. In case you haven't noticed, every single game that supports a control pad that has been made in the last 4 years or so has had 360 input commands instead of the shitty 'press button 4' prompts and whatnot.

This is because the 360 controller has become the default controller for PCs. They don't assume you have a 360, the game developer assumes you have the most popular controller for PC.

And whine some more about how pressing shift. I have literally played entire games with shift held down the entire time because I'm too stubborn to turn on auto run. Maybe I just have big hands, but it isn't that bad.
