First off I have to say if you don't have the OB I would highly recommend it, its only 10 dollars for five of the highest rated games of all time.

Secondly, how and why do you think valve does it? This price is so ridiculously low, if I bought a game off of ebay, I'd pay half of it just for shipping, not to mention I'm getting five games.
every weekend (nearly every) they do a "weekend deal" where they sell a chosen game (in this case, games) for a much lower price. that is how i buyed L4D and TR: A

I have TF2 and Half Life 2 (minus the episodes) on PC and the Orange box itself on 360. Is it worth getting again just for ep 1, 2 and portal for PC?
more worth than having them for consoles.

And I just bought Portal for $20 two weeks ago... *facepalm*
Edit: Would I have to pay to activate the games on steam as well? I don't really trust steam...
Dammit me too! But is he talking about Stream, or for a console?

No, once you got the magical box then enter the activation codes and you're off!

It'a bloody good deal.
DAMN! Should have figured but I have bad feelings toward steam ever since I bought a copy of CS:S from a store only to find out I had to pay a further "Activation fee"...
...You didn't... Not unless you bought it for cheaper at the store. If you bought it for the full price, you didn't. I bought all my Valve games (which currently include... All valve games) as physical DVDs in a store and activated them through steam.

...Did you try using your DVD's CD key to activate the product...?

What? That doesn't sound right. I have over 30 games on Steam, both retail and online bought but never came across that.

Noticed this already. I've already started recruiting my friends for TF2-playing.

Now if only so many of them weren't having these horrible things called 'exams' coming up...

As far as I know, Steam's never worked like that, on any game.

I bought HL2 very soon after it's release and all I had to do was stick the code in to activate it, no extra fee. That also game me CS:S right then.
I've also had games I bought retail and installed normally, like any other game and then, when they were released on Steam, I could just input the code and play them from Steam. Essentially giving me two copies of a game for the price of one. Specific games being Prey, Dawn of War: Soulstorm and the original Half Life games.

And, in none of that, have I ever had to pay an activation fee beyond the initial purchase.

Also, if you buy games directly off of Steam, they're automatically added to your account, you don't need to put in any extra codes.

I love Valve. They're a company that bases their success on how happy their customers are rather then how much money they make.

Valve's best-selling product on steam is the orange box and its components, Perhaps putting it on sell will bring in even more customers. Once a person buys the orange box, they already have Steam so they are more likely to buy more games and make Valve more money.

Valve just wants you to be happy. As long as you're happy they know you'll buy all their products (preferably more than once!).

I would get it if my parents weren't being such jerks about it. Oh you already have Portal, Half Life, Half Life, Half Life, looks you only get 2 new games.
I tried to explain Episode 1&2 are actually sequels, nope wouldn't budge.
And this comes from the same 2 people who believe that 2 crappy $10 normal price games equals one good $20 normal price game.
And I rarely ask for games, the last time it was with Audiosurf during the indie sale on Steam.
Who else thinks my parents are idiots?

There was no activation key, I looked all over the place and there was no CD key

I may have just answered my own thread, what happens when you play HL 2 HL 2:1 and HL 2:2? You're going to want to play HL 2:3. Combine that with http://whatsinthebox.nl/ and there is the perfect storm.

Edit: Moving this to the first post, sorry for the repetition.

Just Blizzard? I think this makes just about gaming every company in the world look like Greedy Bastards.
