I love when Valve does this stuff, it's just a shame I don't catch all the steals like this on steam. I did catch L4D when it was like $10 (or was it $20?) for what 3 days? But I've had the orange box for like a year, and I got it for $30 and I still think it was worth every single penny.
I'll have to look for that when they do it again... if they ever do it again, that is

Steam have worked out a smart business plan where they keep their customers happy, they sell older stuff that , if physical copies, would just be clogging up a warehouse somewhere. Instead they can charge a cheap price, and get the steam software onto people's PCs.

Now, I'm making it sound sinister, and it's not, I think. It's just that Valve realise once you have Steam, they can keep on hurling great offers at you, literally at times, great games for the price of a McD's meal, and it's so easy to just click, tap in card, got new games.

I bought OB from Game for £17.99 ages about, and since then I've bought all the GTAs1-4, First two Oddworlds, first five X-coms, a pinball game and a few other bits n pieces.

If I hadn't bought the Orange Box, I doubt I'd have had any of that except maybe GTA IV.

Is there a monthly fee with Team Fortress? Someone told me there was and that currently is my only reservation against it

First off I have to say if you don't have the OB I would highly recommend it, its only 10 dollars for five of the highest rated games of all time.

Secondly, how and why do you think valve does it? This price is so ridiculously low, if I bought a game off of ebay, I'd pay half of it just for shipping, not to mention I'm getting five games.

Edit: This is off of steam for those of you who don't know, http://store.steampowered.com/sub/469/

Edit2: What happens when you play HL 2 HL 2:1 and HL 2:2? You're going to want to play HL 2:3. Combine that with http://whatsinthebox.nl/ and there is the perfect storm. I can only hope
Not five games, but rather one game and four mods (or, if you like, one game and two expansions). Frankly TF2 isn't worth the bother. They should've given us CS with it or something :-/

Portal's nice, if a little short.

Nah dude it's not an MMO, you buy the orange box for dirt cheap on steam, and then go to town as much as you want.. it's decentralized servers how could they charge you monthly fees?

I'd highly reccomend the orange box to anyone. Good single player FPS with a decent story and an epic war of the worlds like confrontation towards the end (and some cool vehicle segments) along with both of its episodic expansions, the best puzzle game since Tetris with amazing dark humor and innovative gameplay, and the most balanced class based multiplayer FPS in the business.

$10 is a freaking steal man, I just gifted it to a friend cause hey for $10, and it gets me someone else to play with that is one of my best friends irl, no problem.

That's an awesome deal. Too bad all my friends have in on the 360...
I laugh at all the console players, they have to any Xbox live fees to play a game that is a once only fee on pc. that and the controllers they use, the thumbstick is a liability to all FPS's.
Analog sticks for aiming is the worst control method for any fps.. freaking terrible.

That's why I can't abide Halo 3 and Killzone 2 and Resistance 2 fans, you're playing with inferior controls for the genre.

Though.. Wiimote would be the BEST controls for an FPS. If only the rest of the hardware wasn't so bad so it could handle a modern fps.

Valve just wants you to be happy. As long as you're happy they know you'll buy all their products (preferably more than once!).
QFT!!
Which is why they should have won the March Madness. But turbine "hacked the vote" so to say. grrrr

I don't normally buy anything off Steam because I like to own, not rent, my games.

But 2EUR/game is a good price even for a rental. One more OB owner reporting in.

Heh, I wouldn't buy portal separate, I mean the game is brilliant but too short to be worth a purchase alone. I always considered it the "bonus game" for buying the orange box.

I suppose you do get a few more puzzles for the standalone version

well months and moths ago i wasn't really interested in the orange box, i played TF2 at a local LAN center and halflife didn't look all that hot. so just picked up portal for £15 because it's a fantastic little game. but seeing the orange box for £5.66 you can't really say no tho that.

Valve can afford it because a lot more people will buy it for the crazy low price than the normal price, so they'll make far more this weekend than they would have normally.

They have great service only made better by crazy deals and games.
