EA dev 'dmex', when asked why Origin was mandatory for ME3 "Origin is mandatory for ME3 due to library dependencies required for various functions e.g. EA authentication functions."
Meaning Origin serves as the DRM. When this was pointed out, the same Origin dev responded:
"No, Origin does not include DRM."
This is one of the devs for Origin saying this: I think now we know why it's terribad to the point that the customer support guy for ToR recommended uninstalling Origin. For not having DRM, Origin actually shuts down the running game if it gets turned off.
So, people, there you have it: Origin is the replacement for securom, as far as EA is concerend.
