Origin, why?

What could possibly compel me for any reason on earth to download Origin and use it in place of Steam?
Steam works because it's run by a company that earns goodwill instead of an extra buck as a business strategy. Furthermore because EA a publisher with many competitors is the ringleader of this backwards circus, several notable publishers will be left out of the system because of the rivalry. As opposed to Valve which I like to call a "neutral" party in the publisher wars, because they have no solid rivals because they never try and play follow the leader they can maintain their place as the middle man.
God knows we won't be getting any good deals on Origin thanks to EA's money before fans business regime.
I may seriously rethink The Old Republic if it forces me to download Origins, if I do I'll download with the utmost resentment.
No flaming here but is there anyone who is behind Origin, if so what are your reasons if there is anything I missed I'd love to know. (No sarcasm intended if you read it that way.)

Origins is EA's new Download service, the one they yanked Crysis 2 from Steam over.

OT: I just simply don't care about Origins enough to bother DL'ing it. I get most games on my 360, and the PC games I choose to get can all be gotten over Steam, so why do I need to bother getting another DD service to run in my background and send me ads over?

Absolutely not, I just don't think they should be run by the companies that have too many business rivals to count and can't adequately get the smorgasbord of games like Steam or D2D can.

While I don't think Steam should be the only Digital Distribution company, I cannot think of anyone worse to form one than EA. I have no desire to make use of Origins when steam works just fine for me.

I'm actually quite glad that Origins exists, if only because it might damage Valve's monopoly on digital distribution. Monopolies are always bad in my opinion, even from companies you like. With that said however I am a little annoyed that I'll have to use it to download SWTOR, but I don't like any of the digital distribution services anyway, so I doubt it will make much difference.

Well, seeing as EA's seemingly not really putting any significant effort behind Origins, I fail to see the point in it as well. It's basically EA store shoved into an .exe file, just with more game choices. Don't get me wrong, I'm not an EA hater, quite the contrary, but it takes far more than that when you're jumping into a market that's heavily dominated and for a good reason (both business and PR wise) by another company.

For now, but monopolies are never a good thing.. competition is always best for the consumer.
Do i think EA are the correct people for the job? well no probably not.. but you cant blame them for trying.

Anyway hopefully we wont *have* to use origins for EA's games, as i do prefer steam.. but i guess we'll just have to see how it goes

So answer me this:

How is Origin any different from Blizzard's service? I've never heard anyone give that flak.

Battle.net is not a required download to your computer just a login service that you use to access Blizzard's games, if you want to check out stats and whatnot it's on Blizzard's site and not engraved into your hard drive. It's little more than a gamespy account.

And if it affects them that much, don't use it and either, dependant on if its mandatory to install Origin to play EA games or not, buy the disc from a store or don't play any EA games.

What if Activision and Ubisoft decided that in order to play their games you had to download a digital distribution service? Which in turn would lead to them pulling all of their games off of Steam, D2D, GOG, ETC.
It's because high end publishers would never submit to their games being in the service of another all of these distribution services would be regulated to online clubs that you're in instead of stores that you can buy any game you want.
I'd be less opposed if Bethesda decided to open one up, because the smaller businesses want more sales instead of exclusivity, god forbid one get's the bright idea to slap on a subscription service.

For any recent EA DLC, you need to go through the process of installing Origin, making another account, and then finding said DLC which is hard because finding DLC is difficult on Origin. I remember when all I had to do was download an .exe file for my DLC and patches.

Or you know, God forbid Valve, the "almighty gods of gaming who can do no wrong" that people treat them as here (mostly for a 10-year-old gray-brown shooter, no less), actually have any legitimate competition.

But of any company to do this, I can only think of one that may have worse potential as a competitor to Valve. In other words, just be glad it's not Activision that's trying this.

All of those things you said Battle.net was not is what Steam is.

Your logic confuses me.

You don't have to download Battle.net
You have to download Steam and other distribution services.
