There are alot of good games out there. Somehow none of them are original. Every original game i've seen has been either really bad, overlooked or unavailible to mass population. If this keeps up every game is going to be about a space marine saving the human race from evil aliens, because he's the only one who can. How lame is that? I want your opinions on this subject and IF YOU CAN, name a original game OTHER than Portal.

the worst unoringal people are Nintendo i used to love them when they stood out as the most oringal games company during the N64 era, now all they do is re-release old gamecube games it fucking incredible how shit they are now.
i am just praying they make another good zelda game, but knowing them it will be a collection of shitty minigames or just another one rehashed with a mothion control scheme.

also whats a Gilgamesh that was the spelling suggestion for minigames.

I started playing The World Ends with You yesterday. I think that's a very original RPG... and I adore the music too.

..."Knowing" them? Good sir, you make it more than clear that you don't understand what they're doing at all.

Gilgamesh is a recurring "character" in the Final Fantasy franchise.

The issue is that there is a middle of the road emerging. Developers see that as the safe bet for something that console owners will buy. This road consists of space marine FPS, WWII FPS, button mashing fighters, and JRPGs.

Guitar Hero is one to break the mould, though.

Actually, originally, Gilgamesh was a legendary hero, like Beowulf. You know, there was an ancient Epic of Gilgamesh, same as there was an Epic of Beowulf.

Oh yeah, Psychonauts was awesome. I enjoyed TWEWY as well.

Also, to expand on your concept, I've complained about this often. I've never seen Psychonauts for PC in a Game store. I'm lucky I saw Darwinia.

An original game? Hmmm...

I've got several that I could mention. So I'll go with Giants: Citizen Kabuto, which I enjoyed. Starts as a third-person squad-based shooter, goes on to encorporate base-building, then a third of the way through gets rid of the squad part, then in the last third switches to Rampage-style gameplay.

Never done before or since.

I started playing Flower yesterday. It's amazing and totally original, and it was released on Thursday. Camoman, your point is moot. Heck, pretty much any downloadable game that I've played recently is original. Braid, World of Goo, Rez HD, flOw...maybe not so much Geometry Wars, but my point is that if you're looking for good, unique games, look at XBL, PSN, or WiiWare.

I AGREE WITH THE SUBJECT OF THIS POST

Anyway, there are games out there, you've just gotta find them. Like Bioshock, for example. No, not the most original game ever, but the setting was very original, which I found very refreshing.
Mirror's Edge was pretty original, and I personally don't see why everyone thinks it sucks so much, I found it rather enjoyable.

Portal was not that original nor was it the best game ever created. It is a decent game though. The last original games were Silent Hill 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, and Bioshock. Dead Space is fun but not really original, more like a retelling of stuff that already came before it.

Well, personally I can't remember any other platformer games that let you traverse oddly shaped planets and shoot yourself through space. Well, except for Rouge's one space level in Sonic Adventure 2, but unlike SMG that kind of sucked.

Also, anyone who "knows" Nintendo will know that their average current-gen game usually has a 2-4 year development cycle. How long has it been since SMG was released again?

Well, yeah, but I figured that the question was in regards to videogames, what with this being a videogame forum.

There is a never ending supply of originals games all over the place, I don't see a problem.

If all you ever listen to is MTV you will only hear unoriginal pop, same as if you only play AAA exclusives on the 360.

There are plenty of original games out there, and some are pretty succesfull too: just think of LittleBigPlanet, Braid, World of Goo and Mirror's Edge. All original, released last year and they sold pretty well.

Mirror's Edge was original (sort of), but it kinda didn't work out right. it was a good idea, but quite poorly executed.

The point isn't execution. It's originality. From what I can tell, Mirror's Edge was pretty original. Only problem was the afore-mentioned execution.
