Well I know I'm probably opening the flood gates here but...

Do you say Ork or Orc??

And before you ask there is a difference.

Ork is mostly from 40K. the space faring brutes that live for WAAAAGH, who MADE FER FIGHTN' AND WINNIN'

and Orc is from WoW and Tolkenesk fantasy (LOTR).

So, what do you say?
Orc is also in Warhammer Fantasy.

Warhammer 40,000 is pretty much the only place where the k is used in Ork for the English version. I use Orc while speaking to english people. But In norway the word for Orc is Ork, so then that is obviously what I'd use. A bit more complicated for me then =p.

I had no idea people spell it "ork" I'll have to go with Tolkien on this one.
Same here! Orcs all the way.

Ork is fine as well, but that's only acceptable to me because of Warhammer and the hilarious nature of their spelling.

Seeing as how Orcs were conceptualised by Tolkien mining Anglo-Saxon myth, I think his spelling is the one I prefer to use myself.
Dutch and German spell it "ork" because otherwise phonetically it doesn't work. I'm not sure, but I suspect that's where Warhammer drew the spelling from.
That's perfectly acceptable to me, but in the English usage, which Tolkien wrote in, then it's Orc from the Old English Orcneas meaning 'demon' which is basically what Orcs are.

I understand completely that it really depends on what context you're using.

Is it me or has this thread gone as far as it's going to go?
it could be pushed further by me and the others shouting WAAGGHHH at it. repeatedly. in the face.
Agreed! Now if you'll excuse me I have to paint my car red so it goes faster :p

Ork in my native tongue, Orc in everything else. Of course, where does Orque fall?
Right after the T.
Ba dum pish!

OT: I believe the correct spelling is Orc in the English language.
Ork I think was just made to seem cooler or misunderstood by someone and it caught on.

That's as far as I know.

and Warhammer Fantasy, as opposed to 40k, which is the one I play most often. Orc it is then.

The term "Orc" originates from Tolkien but is also used in Warhammer (Not 40k) and the Warcraft RTS-MMO series.

Just thought I'd correct you there

Orc is the final nomenclature decided upon in Tolkein's LOTOR series but originally in his drafts Ork was used. Derived from the Old English word orc meaning demon, evil spirit or bogey. It also appears in a form in the poem Beowulf. Also could be derived from latin's Orcus meaning "hell".
Mind you the above information is derived from Tolkein quotes.
Ork is the accepted term when dealing with Warhammer 40k universe's "greenskins".

So in the gaming universe, Orc is used in everything but Warhammer 40k and Shadowrun.

Either way it really doesn't matter but generally Orc is far often the more accepted term.

I'm not sure why I have to choose. I just use Ork when I referring to Warhammer 40k and Orc when talking about pretty much everything else.
