As many mentioned before and aside from the cases where it's a proper noun, it could be very regional based. German as a language for example, isn't very used to pronunciate a 'c' like a k, therefore you'll most likely see a 'k', where in english it would have been a 'c'.

act -> Akt
fact(s) -> Fakt(en)
to conjugate -> konjugieren
camel -> Kamel
costume -> Kostü(ue)m
corona -> Korona (but the c version is also very common here)
cannibal -> Kannibale
continent -> Kontinent
connectivity -> Konnektivitä(ae)t
etc. etc.

Or(k)s in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Eye are written with a 'k' as you surely have noticed.

Also if not already happened, you may wanna skim through http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orc .

Sounds the same so I don't really care. Not trying to be mean or anything I just really don't care lol.
same here, lol. Actually, I kind of hate the fact that the alphabet has two symbols for the same sound.
Well they don't sound the same in every language....
I'd say Ork in my native tongue and ork in general too. Tbh, the only reason is because ork comes more naturally when typing.

Weird, I always thought Orc was the english notation, while Ork was German.

So, for me: Ork

Orks iz best, but did ya know that only Warhammer 40,000 Orks iz called Orks. In Warhammer Fantasy, it's spelled Orcs, even though the two versions are basically the same species just with different levels of technology. I still prefer the word: Ork, because "c" is a pretty useless letter, most languages don't even have it.

This honestly had me loling.

Here's the idea, Orks from W40K vs fantasy Orcs.
Orks I figure have the advantage in owning a ton of planets, having guns, having lasers, having giant death robots (gargants). Yeah the orcs are pretty much boned.

huh... i was not aware that such a thing as "ork" existed. I'd always seen it as "orc". Sounds like one of those fantasy uses of older spellings where they just spell things differently. ex) magic vs. magick or demon vs. daemon.

Ork sounds good for 40k where they are, no offense, crude representations of backwards, or "black" cultures, whereas an Orc is a far more sophisticated, albeit crude warrior culture. I prefer Tolkein on this one, no question.

I was born and raised (well, raised) on Tolkien so Orc all the way. It will be a cold day in Hell before I spell Orc with a k. Oh wait, DNF is finally coming out. Guess that means all bets are off then. ORK ORK ORK ORK ORK ORK! Well that was liberating :) Still calling it "Orc" though.

Interestingly enough, the original spelling is "Orq".
The spelling "Orc" was coined by Tolkien, while the spelling "Ork" was coined by Games Workshop.
