I recently dug my old DS light out of bookshelf, and I'm looking for some DS games with a great story, gameplay, or preferably both. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Obscure titles are also welcome. Thanks!

Ghost Trick and all the Ace Attorney games, definitely.

Both have great story, Ghost Trick has also gameplay.

I remember several threads on this, at least this is one you could check out for recommendations;

I'd recommend The World Ends With You. It's easily my favorite game on the DS. And Advanced Wars is fun too.

As an avid fan of the series I can't recommend Pokémon enough, although I'm sure you either already own one or are completely aware of it. I would also recommend Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon. The Fire Emblem series is amazing and Shadow Dragon is no different. I don't like it quite as much as the first version which came out for the GBA but Shadow Dragon is a well worthwhile installation.

Radiant Historia and The World Ends With you are two fantastic RPG/strategy games that have some similarities with Fire Emblem and Final Fantasy. As you can probably tell I prefer to play RPGs on handheld devices, but I'm sure I can come up with other recommendations.

Contra 4 is a great platformer as are any Mario games obviously. If you want a racer you really can't go wrong with any of the Need for Speed games. As a personal fanboy of the original, Geometry Wars is unbelievably fun and I can't recommend that enough. Don't even know how I would describe that game.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime is an absolute gem and I really regret that I didn't buy it new and boost its sales. It's one of the most overlooked awesome DS games.

And I'm not even a fan of the Dragon Quest series of games.

The favorites I can think of off the top of my head are the Pokemon games, The World Ends With You, and Professor Layton (although you won't like it if you don't like puzzles).

Pokemon Black is one of my favorite games in general, I can't recommend it enough, along with Black 2/White 2, Platinum, HeartGold/Soul Silver.

Since Phantom Hourglass Link is your avatar, I'll just assume you have the two DS Zelda games. ;)

New Super Mario Bros., I know it spawned a questionable series, but this game is awesome.

Mario Kart DS is great.

Kirby Super Star Ultra, probably my favorite Kirby game.

Second this, that game was amazing. I was so disappointed that the sequel only got released in Japan.

I recommend anything from the Ace Attorney or Castlevania series. The Rune Factory series is also very good.

Castlevania Order of Ecclesia
Similar to the line of RPG like games that Symphony of the Night spawned, but this one is much much more difficult.

Dragonball Z Attack of the Saiyans
Even if you aren't a fan of the show you may enjoy this rather fun RPG. The battles are turn based, similar to older Final Fantasy's, but the combat moves and battles are active and fun, and the animations really make watching battles a joy. There's also a block system that requires you to press a timed button similar to Mario RPG.

Rune Factory 3
It's Harvest Moon with fighting. And monster training. And no time limit.

The whole Etrian Oddessy series.
All of the Rune Factory series.
All of the Fire Emblem games.

I believe those will help you out a good bit ;>

Kirby's Canvas Curse is probably my favorite DS Game on there. It really showed how the Touch Screen could add to gaming to me. It's really fun too, and you can unlock a bunch of mini-games in there.

World Ends With You, SMT: Devil Survivor 1 & 2 have both

Lux Pain, Hotel Dusk, Trace Memory, & 999 all have great stories, though gameplay is less so (still competent).

Advance Wars and Fire Emblem have always been stanbys and favorites as well.

The DS is a haven for JRPG's in the modern console era.

999 was interesting. A kind of exploration puzzle game with several people who are kidnapped and forced to find their way off a ship.

if you're open to visual novels, and live in the US, I cannot reccommend 999: 9 hours 9 persons 9 doors enough! its a fantastic little game that I wish more people had played.

Henry Hatsworth: It's a platformer on the top screen, and a Bejeweld clone on the bottom screen. Defeated enemies become blocks in the bottom screen. Pairings on the bottom screen become special weapon energy.

Infinite Space is a very unique JRPG about commanding a fleet of spaceships.

The Professor Laytons are fantastic. The puzzles don't really make sense in the context of the story, but you just have to accept that the people of the world Layton and Luke live in absolutely adore puzzles. Let me tell you, the puzzles they present are some real mind-benders. When I played the first one, I thought to myself that this was a game that could not possibly be meant for children. Or at least, not one of average intelligence and comprehensive skills. This series is really fitting to the DS as a "portable" game. The type which you can just pick up and put down on a whim, as a great way to stave off boredom while you're being forced to wait somewhere. Like crossword or a game of sudoku, except you have places to explore, interesting people to meet, and an overarching mystery to solve.

I highly, highly recommend the first game, Professor Layton and the Curious Village, as a must-have in every DS collection. And the professor is just such a charming, posh gentleman that you can't help but root for...

I loved all the Layton games! I even have the little movie tie-in plushie! Meteos was also a minor addiction I had for a while. I haven't played a Pokemon since Emerald, though. Is it worth picking up black or white?
