I have no plan to ever get one. I really dont need a console game that plays andriod apps. All it is really going to be good for is playing old snes games and such.

So, with the official retail launch of the Ouya less than a month away, what's the public consensus on the smallest next-gen console? Anyone else getting one? I'm going to buy one at launch and pick up the Final Fantasy 3 remake for it. Also grabbing Airtight Game's Soul Fjord when that comes out.

What about existing Ouya owners out there, how's the console looking at the moment? I've heard all the UI and controller lag problems have been patched out, how's it running now?
It's only $100 so I'll grab one and see how it goes, very least it'll make a nice little media box for downstairs. I like the potential it has though and want to see where it goes.

I probably won't get one. I haven't heard the best things about the games available, and if it keeps going like it reportedly has, the vast majority of them will be shovelware with microtransactions or extremely limited free games which exist to sell you premium versions of themselves. As far as its capabilities outside of (what are esssentially) mobile games, I don't particularly need a media centre.

I'm not getting one. It doesen't have any excellent exclusives, and doesen't have the power or the userbase to attract the big developers.

I think this video here does the best job of showing off some of the games and functions of the console.

A bit of a fist of awesome (2:39 in the video) looks hilarious.

Nope, my galaxy S3 is better, and portable.
Same here. Between my S3 and all the other gaming devices I have, I have yet to see anything from the Ouya that would convince me to buy one.

To be honest, if that video really does the best job of showing off the Ouya, that's none too impressive. Looks like the same mobile tripe you can get for iPhone/Android phones, plus a duller variation on Portal and a WipeOut clones.

That parkour game looks like it could be fun though, sort of like a 2d Mirror's Edge.

This is bargain bin gaming, when you already own all the top tier hardware this really wont interest you.
People on a tight budget however would appreciate that sort of thing, especially if they have kids who get bored of every game within 30 minutes and you are paying $60 a piece with the regular consoles.

Freeware stuff and emulators are a godsend for any kid with budget constraints, I also haven't got a use for such things now but I used to be that very kid without a dime to spend yet desperate for new games.

My Note 2 with HDMI out and Sixaxis via bluetooth makes for a more powerful, flexible and comfortable alternative.

If anything unique comes to the Ouya then I may reconsider.

Got one on kickstarter. Thing runs a nice SNES emulator, which is great, because my TV has a huge input delay on standard definition and since it's a decent size it looks muddy as hell.

Now I can finally play sparkster again.
If you can get Megadrive games for it, too, get Sparkster's predecessor Rocket Knight Adventures. If you haven't played it already, it's amazing. One of my favourite games ever.

OT: I'd love to have a go at developing for it. Who knows, maybe I could be the one to convince some of the sceptics to buy it ;D

Plays android games right? I might get one if the Phoenix Wright: Trilogy comes out for it (come on, Ace Attorney on a Television! SOLD!)
Seeing as they're already porting it to android, putting in the effort to add Ouya controls seems like a good idea. If not, the console is supposed to be very easy to root and modify. No doubt there will be a guide on the net getting it to run regardless of an official Ouya launch.

I backed it on Kickstarter and am still waiting for my shipment... So, yeah, already got one, technically.
No clue how it'll turn out, though. At the very least I can give it to my sister or something.
Allegedly they've all shipped as of a week ago, but they're shipping DHL. And DHL is...not the quickest shipping in the world.

Saturday Morning RPG actually annoyed me in coming to OUYA, as they delayed the PC port to do an OUYA release.

It looks absolutely abysmal paying 100 for doodlejump? what a terrible idea
To be fair, they have a lot more than Doodle Jump, and certain games for mobile just aren't suited for virtual buttons -- like Sonic 4 and most other platformers.
But yeah, I AM concerned that they're just going to stick it with shoddy ports. Fingers crossed that they'll do a bit more.

You know I have no plans to buy one, and I think it illustrates the utility of MS's or Sony's marketing department rather than the merit of their power. This thread alone contains several interesting videos and comments that have shown me that the Ouya could be a worth while addition to my gaming hardware, but I haven't thought about the console since it was kickstarted aside from it being mentioned one or twice in "Was the kickstarter fad a horrible tragedy?" articles that pop up from time to time. I feel like I really dont know what its potential even is, aside from selling me games I can get in a portable format on my phone. Really, I need to see it deliver something that would justify the $100.

It seems kind of weak, according to the released statistics. 1 gig ram is practically nothing. My phone has 1 gig ram. I'll probably just play on my phone.

Personally, I'm more interested in the steam box concept.

Fuck yes! Kocket Knight Adventures was aweseome! Also, it was on Sega Genesis too so I bet it can be found for that

On topic, that's part of the reason I want to get one. It'd be great for running some emulators of my old games. And you'd be surprised how hard it is to find a decent controller for android that works with all games and emulators. That is, assuming the Ouya has some options for emulating vectors on touch screens so we can use analog sticks. It'll be nice to play old multiplayer games too like super smash bros

I have a hard time imagining the Ouya failing. Anyone can make games for it and the odds of every one of them being a dud is silly
