Over-used movie clichés that make you cringe.

My (least) favourite cliche is in action movies where the man and woman will have a confrontation (sometimes playful, but usually when they first meet), and the woman takes the man down, pinning him into a suggestive pose. Nothing wrong with that, except that later in the movie, it ends up being the guy who saves the woman's ass, overcoming physical conflicts that the woman could not.

How many times has THAT happened?

Extra points if he was only "pretending" to be evil and they get back together only for him/her to turn out evil AGAIN.

Bombs being defused seconds before they go off, and people falling off a cliff/building, but managing to grab a ledge and hang on, so someone can pull them up. Often leads to a tense few seconds (if you haven't seen it a thousand times before), as the other person has to lean down and grab their hand.

I can't think of any, I like dreadful cliches.

"All a dream" thing is pretty cool if used right, in my opinion. Very deep. Unless you use it to simply escape bad storylines, hur.

Either way, it's always fun to invert said cliches... Like the old classic "riding off into the sunset/sunrise/the moon (I've only seen that one in Zorro, I think). Now replace the fucking horse with a spaceship, and place it on direct collision course with said moon/star. Instant classic!

RoboZorro kills the robobadguy and frees the cybermexicans and then flies into the Sun. Awesome.

You would really prefer 60s goofy costumes instead of CGI? Sure, there can be some pretty badly done CGI, and sometimes certain directors replace much of plot and acting with said CGI... But it's still fucking light years ahead of not using any CGI at all.

2012 was a shitty movie with a shitty premise and by an annoying director, but the CGI was pretty cool. I'd rather have a share of shitty movies where everything is replaced with CGI than watch the equivalent of early 70s martial arts movies. Sure, they are funny to watch, which isn't generally their intended purpose. But they are lame, otherwise.

Seriously, imagine any good supernatural horror/science fiction/action movie without CGI. Pre-70s science fiction movies that were actually good are very few, I can't even think of any aside from 2001:A Space Odyssey

Voluntarily imposed technical limitations will not help your creativity. You either have it or you don't.

What about the hero of the story becoming evil at the end. Say he's been fairly neutral through-out the story, but at the end his darkside takes over and he becomes evil?

I don't mean like Anakin Skywalker becoming Darth Vader, more like Garrett from Thief deciding to try and take over.

Would that be considered a cliche'?

Nope. Why? Because that doesn't happen often.

The yelp when some random goon dies in an action movie scene. You know the one I mean.

A fairly recent cliche shattered my respect for a character the moment it happened. In the new Robin Hood movie, Marian is shown as this strong and competent woman, who in spite of every shortcoming manages to run her land with what she has. I saw that, and liked her for it. And to ruin the image of this positive character-type, she shows up for the final battle in armor, as if she forgotten she was suppose to be the warrior maiden of the film. Now, it didn't come off as stupid as it did in the God-awful King Arthur movie, but it enough to make me facepalm.

3D animation.

I get most of your others, but what's the deal with these two?

3D Animation is a sub-genre and CGI can sometimes be the only way to do things, whether it be Blue Screen or otherwise.

I don't even get how they can be cliché to be honest.

I like 2D cell animation, claymation, & old-fashioned special effects with props.

Just once, I'd like to see a bomb be disarmed with a reasonable amount of time left.

Or alternatively a few more controlled explosions/'shoot the bomb with a shotgun' in films as it seems to be all that they do in real life (according to the news here)
