I liked WoW for the instances. I managed to make it to lv. 52 and was getting close to all my friends who had been playing it way longer than I had. Then The Burning Crusade was released adding 10 levels extra for me to catch up to the rest of my guild. That kinda put me off it. Long instances were a factor too. I've played long RPGs and other games for 8+ hours a day but you can pause those. When you can't stop for half an hour for dinner or some other interruption during an instance or a raid that lasts for a few hours then it's just a little too much.

WoW... It's not a game it's a job. A job that you have to pay to show up at.

Unless you have a nice group of friends to play with I find that rediculous. But only as rediculous as discovering that I am incapable of spelling the word rediculous.

I have a strange History with for. for the longest time, i was a guild wars player. I really liked the game, but after i had beaten all the xpansions and done everything there was to be done within the game, i got bored of it. I got sick of all the monsters and npcs being 10x stronger than me when i had spent so much time playing and saving the world and such. then i switched to wow.

played it for about 3 months or so, but then realized that it wasn't worth paying for. sure its a fun game, its really immersive, its probably the biggest game world ive ever experienced, but its not worth paying to play it. imo i dont think any game is worth paying a subscription fee to play.
now, i am sad to say that i am playing it again, but this time on a private server. see one of the things that bugged me about wow, other than teh subscription fee, was the insane amount of grinding. there was one point around lvl 47, i couldn't find anymore quests, so i was relegated to grinding for eternity it seemed.

however, on private servers, it removes most of the grinding. the one im on has x50 exp, and x40 loot and gold. makes lvling to 70 a snap, so you can get into the real fun of the game near the end, with pvp and rading and whatnot. besides, i will most likely stop all together when some of the good games start coming out, fallout 3, force unleashed, saints row 2, fable 2 ect start coming out. i think of wow as a time waster basically.

"One of the worst points to make about MMO games. If they're not enjoying the game, they're not going to play to endgame when it 'gets better.'"

*shrug* that's how almost all MMOs are. It's a sad truth of the genre.

I think it's overrated, however, I do play it occasionally. Right now my account is inactive, but it is something that I plan to play some more of. And of course, just gotta be careful how much you play, because time has a tendency to disappear when playing it.

You're not the only one who thinks that, but plenty of people, myself included, are going to disagree.

In my experience, WoW is (was?) one of the most immersive, compulsive and fulfilling games of all time. I don't really play it anymore, but at the time it was unbeatable. Epic scale, a real sense of exploration and adventure, co-operating with real life friends, and a near-constant feeling of achievement as you levelled up and improved your gear.

Of course there's a point where you'll probably stop playing; you hit 60, or 70 when the expansion came out, you have nowhere new to explore, lose interest in improving your gear, and give up. But that only tends to come after hundreds of hours of enjoyment.

Other small companies have released some competition, but the trouble is, you cannot compete with it. It's not for everyone, but ten million subscribers is a hard figure to argue against.
That's the best review I've ever heard. I may have to check it out.

I hate WoW. I just don't see any depth to it. Go talk to NPC->NPC gives you easy to understand quest->you get some friends and do quest->repeat over and over again until you have reached the desired level or amount of money (and the fact that everyone does the same quests doesn't help). I want something more open ended and with far less NPC's (or at least NPC's that just stand in one place or walk around in a small area). AI is progressing really quickly, why can't they put good AI in mmorpg's?

I never liked WOW but I don't hate it. I only played because all my friends were, but as soon as I got to level 60 they all left! I would say it is the most active MMO out there, it had everything and more and alot of people appreciate that. But I wish all the other MMOs didn't try to copy WOW, I left Lineage 2 cause of that.

I really don't want a cyber gang to take over WOW, Blizzard has probably been the only company that hasn't produced a shit game. Plus if a cyber gang could take over WOW, that would be scary!

Bah, I actually really liked WoW when it first came out, but then it earned itself the most immature community of any MMO I've played (and I've played a lot). I couldn't take it anymore and quit playing.

World of Warcraft was really fun while I played it. I had a level 44 dwarf around the time when I couldn't play much due to school.

I think the reason I hate it is that you pay every month to do the same shit over and over again while a computer at the other end of the world rolls dice for you.
So, not a fan.
