Hmmm movies I find overrated

Watchmen: Seriously. A boring movie about guys in spandex and masks that tried to be dark and serious. Seriously, even in the awesome animated MArvel and DC flicks, you get the occasional joke. This movie just sucked. You couldn't pay me to own Watchmen.

The Dark Knight: Batman Begins was okay, but this just sucks. The Joker was boring, the action sucked, and Batman's voice was laughably bad. I cracked a smile hearing him talk. I also fell asleep from boredom...

Scarface: Yeah, this is just boring....

I hated the first Terminator. T2 was okay...

Also wanna throw in:

Monty Python: Anything by them. they just suck. I'm not a fan of British humor to begin with but seriously, how can ANYONE find this crap funny?! Seriously, I'll take the Mighty Boosh or Look Around You over ANYTHING with the horrible name of "Monty Python"

I also found Spaceballs funny, but not worth the hype.

The thought of watching Citizen Kane actually hurts me.
Jesus...what didn't you like about it? It's funny, well paced and generally very easy to watch.

OT: A great deal of American comedies just don't appeal to me, Pineapple express, American Pie...etc. Recently, I didn't think a whole lot of Avatar or Hurt Locker. They weren't bad...I just don't see how they won everything.

What a terrible film.
It's not deep, it's not amazing, stop telling me to watch it again.
You should watch it again!
:). But seriously, you should.

Yeah, that movie was art.

Unlike that bullshit sequel, or the other movie that director made...it was called The Box I believe.

I'm beginning to believe that the popularity of this movie is something that can't be understood...I mean it's like The Fifth Element...any scene out of context is stupid (except the conversation about the smurfs in the field) but all together it's amazing.

You found the Joker boring? Really? He was my favorite part of the movie...I'm so hyped for the third. But Batmans voice was stupid.

and WATCHMEN ruled!

I would like to point out, there is a difference between overrated and bad. There is some over lap. For example, I think Halo is overrated but still a good game. That being said:

Avatar, Twilight. Though I don't actually think these are good movies.

I know I'll get a lot of shit for this, but: Almost anything Quentin Tarantino puts out.

*puts on helmet, hides in bunker*
I will admit that a lot of people say Tarantino's movies are too talky, regardless of the fact that it is well written dialogue. The movies however are always advertised wrong. They are always advertised as thrilling action movies when the preview shows all the action. I will say this though: anyone can make your heartbeat when explosions are everywhere and guns are going off, only Tarantino has made my heart beat like that when people are talking calmly.

Pulp Fiction.

It's not a BAD movie, but some people absolutely worship it, often along with all of Tarantino's other movies. To be honest it's just a reasonable movie with some witty dialogue making up for it's lack of a single, coherent storyline.

My guess is that you either missed the point of the movie or weren't paying attention very well when you watched it, or both. A lot of the things that don't make sense to you are explained in the movie, and the "flaws" you point out show a cursory understanding of the themes in the movie. I would suggest watching it again.

Anyway, Napoleon Dynamite, Talladega Nights (or anything with Will Farrel in it for that matter), Se7en, and Terminator were all ridiculously overrated.

Avatar.

Or really anything by James Cameron.
I admit the story was crap
"WE FIGHT TERROR WITH TERROR!"
"But they haven't done anything to us yet."

that movie is worth it for the special effects and action though.

As for me the most over rated movies are.

Pretty woman, american pie, transformers 1&2, most tyler perry movies, the blind side, and my list can probably go on and on but those are the ones I can think of right now.

Has anyone said The Dark Knight yet? The praise it got may have held more water if Heath Ledger didn't die. And it definitely didn't deserve a Best Picture nomination like everyone said. Then there's also everything Tarantino did after Pulp Fiction. I also loved Avatar, but people are just blowing its quality out of proportion. And then there's the list of movies that didn't deserve even a nomination for Best Picture: Shakespeare in Love, Crash, Babel, Slumdog Millionaire (people look at me funny for that last one because I'm Indian).

I counted overrated as something that everyone and their brother has seen and insists you watch it because it was omfg bbq amazing pwn sauce.

Like people did with titanic.

Like people did with avatar.

Like people, including me, did with the dark knight.

The blair witch project, The godfather, apocalypse now, 2001 and many others that would qualify as just about everyone that is alive has seen them or is aware of them, and have heard from time to time omg you got to see this.

Now some of these films like Pulp fiction, fight club etc had small to reasonable box office success, i know many yuppies and respectable people that pulp fiction made their insides churn and their brains explode. And many reviewers have panned pulp fiction and inglorious basterds etc for its episodic sometimes out of order story telling, which confuses and confounds them like their brains are not quite up to job of comprehending the fact that yes it is full complete and linear story broken up to some degree.

Now being that we are in a certain click of oddballs and alternative thinkers to some degree we probably heard omg you got to see pulp fiction, fight club etc etc but normal people would not be praising those movies quite as much as your going to get on a gaming site or in a general artistic community.

just my opinion on how o break down something that is due for overhyped or not.

Avatar - you all know why
Godfather - Three and a half hours of my life that would've been better spent spent sleeping
All Harry Potter movies
Beowulf
Cloverfield - what was the point of it all?
Twilight - just go away
All Resident Evil movies (except for the first) - theres no horror, its just ridiculous

Damn, I knew there would be some Avatar comments, but not one right in the first post.

OT: Avatar and possibly the Godfather (I just finished watching it with my brother and thought it was confusing and slow, though I'm gonna watch it again to give it another chance)

I've watched it several times. I have a four-year old sister and she loves Wall-E. I never noticed anything that explains why Otto is such an uninteresting character, why the plant is a logical plot device, why Eve has a gun, etc. I understand that it's a children's movie, but that doesn't excuse that the story is so flawed. The beginning was excellent, and the movie had so much promise. Perhaps I am missing something, but I can't see it for myself. If you can give any explanations, I'd be glad to hear them.

Search bar approved guys!

What movies have you seen that you thought were really overated. I've seen a few although the most recent example would have to be Hurt Locker. It's been called one of the best war movies ever but when you compare it to other war movies like Saving Private Ryan its just plain boring. Compare it to THE war movie, Apocalypse Now and it's a stupid, drivelling, unrealistic excuse for a film.

What movies do you consider to be overated?
Well it depends on what your criteria for best war movie. Apocalypse Now was very cool, but I've never met a Vietnam vet who didn't hate that movie. I think that the Hurt Locker was more of an attempt to capture the experience of a soldier in Iraq more than just entertain us. I do admit though that if you asked me whether I'd rather have a couple beers and watch either Hurt Locker or Apocalypse Now, I'd chose Apocalypse Now every time.

For most overrated movie... Avatar would have to get my vote, unless I could count Star Wars Episode One. Everyone thinks it sucks now, but I remember back in the day as a kid I was so excited. I bought an Episode One t-shirt with a pod-racer or something like that on it, and went to see the movie. After seeing the movie, I just looked down at my pod-racer t-shirt and felt like I was one of those crazy Christians back in the day who thought God was going to come at a certain time, put on their white robes, climbed to the top of the mountain, and made the walk of shame home the next day.

I would say "Full Metal Jacket." As far as both Vietnam and Stanley Kubrick films, it's more famous for its first act and drill sergeant than it is actually a good movie. Apocalypse Now and Platoon are way better.
