Oh,the list...-Unrolls an ungodly long piece of paper-
-Poorly executed Quick Time Events and Action/Reaction Commands
-Unlock POORER equipment/skills upon ranking up
-Motion-Capture gameplay
-Touch-response gameplay
-Sacraficing gameplay mechanics in the name of "BETTAR GRAFFIX! DUR HUR!"
-Sacraficing plot for OTHER things
-Overpriced DLC,borderline DLC in general(Hint:Lower the price to $5.00 CDN)
-Realism in general. Games are an escape from reality.
-"Real is Brown"
-Right-handed protagonists
-Arbitrary weapon limit
-Reliance on multiplayer
-Butchering of mechanics used earlier in the series (I'M LOOKING AT YOU FFXIII AND YOUR "GUNBLADES"!)
-Sports sims in general...As if EA ever listens...
-"Follow the leader" effect.
That's about it...Let the lynching begin.

As long as the escort either can handle themself as long ass you don't let them get swarmed, or realizes they aren't a combatant and does everything in their power to avoid combat themself, I'm fine with it, the problem lies in non-combatants getting cocky brawler AI.
And one huge problem is that no developer can seem to get it right. Off the top of my head, I don't think I can actually give an example of a well made escort mission. Blue Dragon's was the best I can think of, and even that was pretty lame. The worst one that springs to mind would be the BloodTox missions in [PROTOTYPE]. Not only is the target you have to defend weak, but it can't defend itself at all. On higher difficulties, even the tanks accompanying it are helpless
Resident Evil 4 was a giant escort mission with Ashley and yet it's considered to be one of the greatest games made in the previous generation.

Morality systems. I can be good! and save the world and everyone will be far more helpful in my journey because they like me! or I can be evil and... get a redundant sword with little use.
The evil option generally hinders you and has no real perks, apart from looking awesome.

Local Multiplayer/ Split-Screen or rather, the lack there-of. Especially on PS3 titles!
This.
Only real gripe I had about Resistance 2...I miss split-screen deathmatches :(
Single-Player BOT matches were pretty sweet too. That was the reason I held on to Duke Nukem 3D on the N64
Same went for Perfect Dark...god damn I miss that game :(

What ever happened to Health packs in shooter games. Remember back then when we fixed everything up by taping a health pack to us. Now we got the COD health Regen, I admit it is a nice feature but it is too over done. I say we should try to combind the two. Like the health regens over time but slowly so we can pick up a health pack to speed up the process. See problem solved, next gripe please

I've got a few;

-Regenerating Health
-Bad Escort Missions
-The colour brown (because brown is realistic????)
-Moral choice systems
-Quick Time Events (I only really liked them in God of War)
-Games focusing on multiplayer (Unless the game is 100% multiplayer or has Left 4 Dead style singleplayer)
-Movie tie-in games being shit (I know this probably doesnt count)
-Generic Space Marines (Any generic space marines must pay the Doomguy £10 admition!)
-Wastelands (Fallout 3, Borderlands, RAGE etc.)
-Bland achievements (Do "plot essential item here")
-Focusing on graphics more than gameplay

For RPGs: Grinding. Having to kill 400 boars/mudcrabs in order to have a high enough level to do something fun. This ruined my experience with World of Warcraft and almost killed the appeal of the Pokemon games for me.

For shooters: Starting out really dull then getting good about a middle of the way in. This goes for the original Doom, Resident Evil 4, and Half-Life 2. This goes for shooter RPGs as well, in particular Fallout 3. On the other hand, it doesn't help when a game starts out well, then plummets in difficulty/quality a middle of the way in (Halo3Halo3Halo3). I'm also not a big fan of first levels that start out with hardly any enemies and weapons followed almost immediately by the meat of the game (Doom 2, Quake, Deus Ex).

In general: having to search every little location in order to collect enough items to progress to the next level without having any obstacles in the way of doing so. This severely hampered some of the Thief 2 missions, particularly the one where you had to go back to the main office to imput a code with would give you access to one room, rinsing and repeating for every single room at the port so you could find enough gold to move on to the next mission.

Sidestepping a huge enemy you cant kill conventionally so that they run into a wall.

Batman:Arkham Asylum, Gears of War, Prince of Persia:Forgotten Sands, ect. ect. ect.
This.
And I believe Batman: AA to be the biggest offender. If your mini boss progression consists of having two of the same guy to fight at the same time, and then adding weaker baddies to the same fight, there is something wrong with you.
But to be fair, the game itself, was in short, Fucking awesome.
Totally, 100%, agreed.

I'll be the first to say it: Games that take themselves too seriously.
Don't get me wrong, I like serious games as much as anyone else does and some of my finer hours gaming have been spent on games like Halo, CoD etc. but there's far too much emphasis on nitty gritty realism and games that take themselves too seriously. I miss shooters like Serious Sam, platformers like Pandemonium or Crash (when the games were good). I've never owned a nintendo console in my life, but right now, the calls of Super Mario Galaxy 2, in all its rehashed nature, sounds like something that would really push my buttons.
A feature I would like returning to consoles is "pick up and play"-ability. A lot of games I simply don't feel like playing because I know that I won't progress past a certain point without a decent amount of play time. There are a lot of offenders for this one, but the biggest offender has to be FFX (outdated though it may be). Going through (I think it was called) Omega Dungeon, reaching the end and trailing all the way back with not a save point in sight.
All.
Of.
My.
Hate.
This comment is so good I would name my kids after it...

Also what really gets to me is environment engines. I mean, I love good graphics as much as the next guy but it's really annoying when the camera zooms out to show you the environment while you're trying to scale the building or kill creeps or etc.
Your kids are gonna get beat up in school.

Um, being really short, there hasn't been a game that I've bought recently that I couldn't have completed if I'd rented.

the cover system in shooter games when this system is active all you have to do is sit in one place and wait for enemys to stop spawning.

At the end of the Dante's Inferno demo they advertise there game by telling you what to excpect like "a brutal adaptation of the classic tale 'The Divine Comedy'" and "Full speed game play at 60 frames per second" WOW the blatant obvious and the thing every cd game has done since the PS, that has never been advertise becuase nobody cares and makes it more obvious the teams scraping the bottom of the barrel for advertising material.

Bullet time. It does not need to be in every game. They put it in every game anyway.
Buh? Infront of me, I have Dead Space, Halo 3, Fifa, Oblivion, Assassins Creed, AvP, MW2, Gears of War 2, Mass Effect 2, Left 4 Dead, GTA IV, Bioshock, Fallout 3 etc.

The only one that actually has "bullet time" to a degree is Fallout 3, with VATS. The rest may have one or two slowed down cinematics, but that's it. It doesn't seem as prevalent to me as it does to several people in this thread; perhaps I'm not playing the right games.

Yeah well, they'll probably do something to warrant it anyway...

Low HP regenerating health models. There are times I'd like to simply play a medkit/HP game.

Nope, all generic space marines must pay 25$ to the guys from Starship Troopers.

OT: nothing realy... I like games if they have stupied mechanics or not... only makes them more fun.
