Case in - motherfucking - point, right here.
How is it 'case in point' when the rest of my comment said "it looks good, but I'm not hyped.".

I'm impartial.

Just because I point out that it has more than a passing resemblance to another IP doesn't mean I'm being a snob... especially when I couldn't give a shit about either of the IPs in question.

Case not in -motherfucking- point.
It absolutely is. No matter how impartial or hyped you may or may not be, drawing the comparison makes it case in point.

Saying "It's just American Evangelion," is the worst thing I saw in this thread, and there are a lot of comments that just boiled my blood. Therefore, to my point, your comment backs up my comment the most.

I am excited... I don't care about the story, I just want to watch the pretty action, and watch some giant monsters get pulverised! :)

If I want story I would watch a drama... I don't want boring story lines ruining my action sequences, thank you!

Cautiously hopeful is a much better decription of how i feel about this movie. Please let it be more Reel Steel.

I've seen some pictures showing that almost every nation has a mech of their own

America: Gypsie Danger
Russia: Cherno Alpha
China: Crimson Typhoon
Australia: Striker Eureka
Japan: Coyote Tango

How much do you want to bet that only the American model will be left standing at the end of the movie?

Well yeah, every trailer pointed to that. Cherno Alpha is shown being fucking mauled to death in one trailer, which is a shame.

Also, a bunch of random facts!
1)Coyote Tango was very first Jaeger and it's piloted by one guy. I guess something happened to him, e.g. his brain burned out and after that all Jaegers were made with two pilots in mind.
2)Crimson Typhoon is piloted by three pilots, probably because it has 4 arms.
3)Jaegers were built in following order: Coyote Tango, Gipsy Danger, Cherno Alpha, Crimson Typhoon, Striker Eureka.

Oh, I've been excited for awhile. A big budget tribute to both kaiju and mecha that's directed by one of the most talented filmmakers currently in the business? Yes, please.

There was also a bunch of baseball card stats I saw containing stats about all the Jaegers

Gypsie Danger: Bit of a jack of all trades. Kaiju Kill count of 5
Cherno Alpha: slow as shit but has the best armor and strength. Kaiju Kill count of 6
Crimson Typhoon: pretty fast but its armor and strength go downhill from there: Kaiju Kill count of 7
Coyote Tango: Pretty crap overall with its strength being only average: Kaiju Kill count of 2
Striker Eureka: Holy shit! Its stats beat almost every other Jaegar here with only its armor being one off the Cherno Alpha. Kaiju kill count of 11!

I know the stats will mean fuck all in the movie, but if they did the Striker Eureka would probably kick all the Kaijus ass's without needing much help

Gypsie Danger last man standing? have you seen the trailers? It shows Gypsie falling down in the arctic with its head smashed open. Definitely not going to make it the whole movie.

Edit:
Also have any of you guys seen the pics for yucon echo? Looks a lot like striker eureka but is canadian. Thats my bet for strongest Jaeger.

One of trailers narration was among the lines of "We started winning, but then everything changed" and they show falling Gipsy Danger and Cherno Alpha getting mauled. Also, almost all promotion materials describe Charlie Hunnam's character as "washed up ex-Jaeger pilot". So, my guess it's going to be like
1)Kaiju's appear
2)People create Jaegers
3)Jaegers start to kick ass
4)Something bad happens and all Jaegers get destroyed with Gipsy being the less destroyed one
5)As final attempt to retaliate people reassemble Gipsy Danger with Charlie Hunnam's and Asian actress as new pilots.

K so without getting too much into the plot (which can be deduced in part from the trailer and ramblings by Del Toro himself in interviews and features). I don't think Cherno makes it :( I'm willing to say that, like most monster-robot trope IPs, the robots might get trashed but I don't think that means that they're out for the count - lots of disables n stuff going on here.

Besides, being last man standing is just code for - have suffered less damage to repair and are still walking - in robot speak. So yes, I think gypsy will be LMS. Honestly if you had to fight optimus prime (striker eureka), a nuclear silo with arms and legs (cherno alpha), a walking buzzsaw (crimson typoon), and an unarmed boxer (gypsy danger) I think your extermination priorities wouldnt tend towards 'cull the weak' - especially when the three dangerous ones have already slapped to death over 20 of your buddies.

I'm hoping the promo of one of the Mechas on one side of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and a monster on the other side is actually in the movie.

When Godzilla Final Wars screened at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2005 (midnight screening with 700 people) there were huge cheers for this scene (there is a Boston vs. New York thing going on with Melbourne vs. Sydney)

Also the Hulk once destroyed the Sydney Opera House out of spite

Most respected film reviewer in our country gave it 0/5 stars, saying that it was a chaotic mess of a movie with one meaningless special-effects action scene after the other.

However, that was to be expected, since he only scores artsy fartsy films high. Personally I think it will be an enjoyable blockbuster with not much else going for it, but that's enough.
