Hey everyone. Just had a really bad night xD Was wondering if any of you have experienced pain in your dreams. Not just you hand falling asleep, or some aches etc that can be explained, but real pain that you as far as you can tell has no basis. Its happened to me a few times, last night it was getting a tattoo. I could feel the needles poke into my skin. The woman that did it used the older method, with the stick and ink. And fyi, I know I'm messed up :p

I've fallen asleep on my arms, and that tends to make for an unpleasent wake up, but never really felt pain in my sleep.

Yes, actually, I have. I had a weird dream about being shot in the head for a reason I don't remember. And, this being a dream, the bullet sort of..stuck in my head, about an inch deep, and I could actually feel a weird pressure and dull pain on the side of my head as this happened.

I still have no idea if the dream was causing that, or if the dream was my brain's sleeping way of saying "you are experiencing real pain and this is what I think it is".

My dreams are brilliant though.
I get angry for being woken up from them.

They are far too awesome to describe.
Same thing happens to me. I remember having an amazing dream that was about to become better than the real world and somebody woke me up. Needless to say, I was quite grumpy for a while after that.

OT: I've never felt pain in my sleep though I have moved the sheets off my bed in my sleep, I hate waking up with no duvet covering me.

your brain still remembered the feeling of pain from your previous tattoo i presume and let you feel it again.

it's perfectly normal.
i don't get hurt much in my dreams (i'm a lucid dreamer) but i've heard other friends experience it.

I've been shot twice in dreams and I've felt no pain despite bleeding and 'feeling' it.

I'm not quite sure what kind of pain you're talking about. I did feel pain from time to time in dreams that woke me up but that was more because I really did feel physical pain and my brain implemented it into a dream... I also sometimes get very close to dying in a dream (like falling off a cliff or something) but the moment it happens I immediately wake up.

Edit: Okay now I guess I get it - couldn't remember that ever having happened to me, though it sounds very... placebo to me.

No, despite my recent recurring dream being me standing in rank before being hit in the chest with an arrow and falling to the ground, no pain was perceived at all.

I think once I got a bee sting, but that's the only one I can remember. And it was pretty mild.

But what's really been creeping me out is that my dreams have had resently a couple of, dare I say, plots that almost made sense. And were good.

Including, I shit you not, a narrated flashback of previous events to make a point that I should not go down to that pit. By my almost all-knowing sidekick cloud.

Writing that down, I realise I must now go to wikipedia and figure how the fuck does that happen.

I wake up due to a massive pain / cramp in my leg about once a week, let me tell you it's a shit way to wake up, simply rolling in pain for a good 3 minutes.
Similarly I'll often wake up due to a movement I make according to the dream, however I have never actually felt pain in a dream.

I physically feel everything in my dreams. Pain, touching something, falling or jumping. Pretty much everything.

Some people say it's from something in real life happening, and then my brain putting a situation for the feeling in my dream. But that doesn't explain stuff like the feeling of being stabbed, or feeling a brick wall with my hands and so on, when none of that is happening or around me in real life at the time.

I did experience it recently...in a nightmare I got stabbed into the kidney with a knife and...well...it hurt bad. But even so it felt distant...I felt in danger, and yet...it didn't hurt as much as it would IRL (where I'd probably black out from the shock).

I once had a dream where my toy squirrel beat me up. As far as I can remember, that hurt. It also happened to be so convincing that I believed it actually happened (I was fairly young), but I don't know how much that has to do with it.

Still, there's no reason why you shouldn't feel pain since dreams are effectively hallucinations.
