This just happened today. I haven't been in a while and I forgot about wonderful moments like this:

We were playing a game of VIP where my team had to escort one person to a rendezvous point through a western style town. My team essentially split up into two, a few taking the VIP down the right and me and a couple others moving down the left through the heavier cover, where the highest concentration of enemies was.

My "squad" of about 4 people made it to the half-way point of the area before we encountered any resistance, but the chorus of paintballs thudding against our thin softwood house signalled the resistance we had encountered was fairly substantial. 2 nearby members of my team were taken down almost immediately before we had a chance to assess where they were and return fire, leaving two of us trapped in a tiny flimsy house. At this point I had no idea where the VIP was or what was going on over the other side of the area.

I decided to attempt to cover my friend as he made a dash across a small patch of open ground to the next house as the barrage continued outside. I popped up out of a window, nailed one man in the face with my first shot and continued suppressing his comrades as my friend made a dash for better cover. He just barely made it when some total dick head popped unexpectedly round the corner from him and point blanked him in the chest. The worst part was he got away with it as well as only 2 marshals were present and they were focussed elsewhere.

Being the only one left in my little post, the exact words which ran through my head were "...Fuck it!" as I ran from the relative safety of my newly re-painted house across to where my friend had been dispatched. The same rule-flouting bell end had not moved and attempted to pull the same trick on me as I neared his spot but before he could get a shot away I put one in his visor so he missed his shot, then put a couple in his chest for good measure.

As he walked off I threw caution to the wind and continued running towards the next house without stopping to take cover, which probably would have been a better decision in retrospect as somebody in the adjacent house put one square on the jugular vein in my neck. That one hurt like a ***** but the rules we were playing said head and neck shots didn't count so I continued. From my new abode I shot another 3 people in the shins through a broken wall before they even knew what was happening, taking them out, and made life difficult for another by putting two into his mask, all in the space of about 30 seconds.

That was most of the team down now, only a couple left and I could hear them firing just to my left in the next building. Because of the layout I couldn't get a shot on them from my current position and remain in cover so I broke for their hideout hammering the trigger at them as quickly as possible. It dawned on me, that as the two remaining opponents turned to face me, that I had not hit either of them once, in fact there wasn't even anything coming out the end of my gun. Without doubt the greatest time to run out of paintballs. They both turned and opened up into me as I was standing out in the open. Those two alone shot me 9 times in the chest and thighs and I got some hefty bruises from that encounter. I felt a bit like Willem Defoe in Platoon.

I'm sorry, but... In the context of paintball, what the hell is a marshal? That's the fourth or fifth time in this thread someone said marshal. Do you mean ref?

I'm starting this thread for all talk about paintball.
Best moment.

Playing a point defense scenario 18 V 18 in woods. Taking out the entire oppsing team alongside one other player (whilst the rest of my team farted about nowhere near th objective).
The last member of the opposition holed uop in a little plywood building, pounding away at my buddy. Calmy walked up behind, stick my head (and marker) through the window.

"Oi!" #phut!# One shot smack in the centre of his mask, point blank. What made it truly awesome though is that he fell over backwards from the surprise, Bond baddy style out of the front door.

I got a repremand from the ref (you are not supposed to shoot people in the face at point blank in my club), but it was worth it.

Pretty much. They are the adjudicators to the competition and try to ensure fair-play and sportsmanship, and to try and keep everyone safe.

Oh, well I've never heard someone call them marshals. Even online, it's always refs.

Marshalls at my local place are hilarious. Mostly because they don't care about most of the rules. For example, you're not meant to shoot under 2m at somone. So there's this tower where it's impossible not to fire over 2m as its so small. They're just like, "go up there, theres a few of them". And so on.

i played paintball recently for my boyfriends, brothers birthday (l0l) and it was so much fun because some of my closest freidns were there and me and one of my friends teamed up against our boyfrends and PWNED everyone, i was pretty proud of my 'ballin' skills (lol again). the last match was a FFA and i was the last one standing out of about 25 people. i was sore as fuck for 2 days afterwards though i was covered in bruises and could barley move... but it was worth it i tell ya! if you've never done paintball i suggest you do...

Wow, that field would be a total pain in the ass from my position. Huge lanes on the snake from break and those split V snakes are generally a pain in the ass as the actual body of the snake is often pretty much useless, leaving you to have to play from just the bricks.

What would your tactics be if you were playing a 5 man on that field?

Personally I would try to get the following going (assuming my team is at the near end):

1 player on the centre right temple laning between their start gate and the left dorito (hidden behind the X)
1 player on the back centre brick laning towards their back right.
1 player going for the left 20 teepee (weird name my team have for that bunker) shooting at their back centre(s)
1 player (probably me) going either for the snake or the right 20 dorito off the break.
1 player either going for left back or left 30 dorito.

I loved playing paintball last year. Me and my buddies all got guns and went out in the woods and shot the crap out of each other. I bought myself a Tippman 98 custom with AK-47 body mod. I felt like a badass especially when I caught my buddy in the face from like 50-100 ft away. I bought a 14 in AK-47 replica barrel since the body mod's barrel wasn't really impressive but then my buddies had to sell their gear cause they were broke. My Tippman now collects dust :(

Mmmmm gun butt someone with a tank filled to 5000psi...safe (and illegal)

I play on a 5-man team, front center or dorito.

Marker Setup:
DP Fusion Colbat Blue
Halo B
Freak Barrel Kit
Carbon tank

A few great stories:

In one match, I was the only one defending the left flank while the rest of the team moved up. But the enemy knew this and started rushing me. I took out 7 of them in quick succession and I felt BADASS. But the entertaining part is when some kid runs at me in the open dual wielding the (heavy as fuck) rental guns and firing from the hip at me. He missed SO BAD I had a hard time bringing myself to shoot the little genius.

The rest of the team was behind this huge rock formation by the edge of the field and our team had them surrounded. I told my teammate to cover me while I moved up to the rocks. I ran up and got to the rocks. Then I literally fell over as EVERY SINGLE PERSON on my huge-ass team opens fire on my back, because enemies always burst out of allied lines and take cover in a position they ALL can see. If it wasn't for how loud I yelled "FUCK!" the enemy never would've known I was there. My entire back was purple or bleeding after that.

My whole team was holding out at this low wall near our base, and I sit and lean against the wall to reload. And all I see are a shitload of people running past me into our base. I look over the wall and the ENTIRE enemy team was running down the hill towards us (this was a special game where they merged 3 courses and every person in the park played on two massive teams) shooting everyone. Me and my friend ran like hell and took cover behind a wrecked truck in the corner of the course. The entire enemy team was coming at us (we were the last of our team) and we held out for 15 minutes while being shot at by maybe 50 people. It was reminiscent of this scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_1-Bb_KaDQ It made me fell so amazingly badass that I've never felt so powerful since.

I have a fairly strong dislike for organized paintball fields. My friends and I play in the woods with camo, grenades, mines, and sidearms. All of those things are not allowed by any field near where I live. Not to mention that the inflatable barriers seem so ridiculous when you can just use trees for cover if you play in the woods. They also do not allow my gun because they "have never seen one like it before", so it must be against the rules.

Hold on.
No camo? Why on earth?
Grenades, that's strange unless you use the explosive kind.
Mines, they're only really practical in scenario games.
Sidearms, unless they're speedball fields using tournament rules (Where mines, grenades, and camo would be useless anyway and games are too short for sidearms.) I don't understand why you're not allowed to use them. Again, they're only practical in scenario games.

So they're speedball fields where ALL of the things you mentioned earlier are useless.

What kind? Unless it uses a non standard calibre (Most field insurance only covers one kind of projectile, the .68 paintball.) that's ridiculous.

Both my rifle and sidearm are .43 caliber mag-fed paintball guns, although the field in question said not only no sidearms, but no secondary weapons of any kind. I do not know what type of fields these places were though. It was 3 years ago that any of us bothered to go to any of them, perhaps their rules have changed by now. And yes we only use the mines in specific games. The area we play in the woods has been our paintball field for going on 7 years now and we play a variety of different game-types there.

Paintball has taught me I could never be any sort of guerrilla specialist if Canada finally attacks us (and you guys will; I know it). WHy? I'm always like the first or second person to get shot. I'm simply not stealthy, I'm loud when I move quickly and I'm 6'6"ish (about 200 cm). Don't get me wrong though I still enjoy paintball. I'm not picky; Organized fields, the woods, or if you want to get really fucked up a big open flat Nebraskan corn field.
I guess when the war comes I'll stand in the back hiding behind a tree and just wait to hit someone over the head with a rock when they get too close. Which is very similar to my only effective paintball strategery

Some fields are like that, for insurance purposes. You can't blame them, getting insurance for a sport where people shoot things at each other is hard to get. But now some fields are opening it up, as long as the gun will chrono under their speed limit it's allowed.

Some outdoor fields do allowed sidearms. You just have to go out and find them.
