Refudiate is still better than Web 2.0. Seriously, Web 2.0 iss the millionth word added to the Oxford English dictionary. It shouldn't even count as a word because it has numbers.

The level of face-palm I'm experiencing is likely enough to mine for diamonds (if said face-palm is reconstituted and made into a diamond harvesting mechanism) I'm neither irate or livid. I'm just deeply, deeply embarrassed and inspired to re-read my Lovecraft so as to update my personal vocabulary.

Nobody can refudite how gibbous that crone of a woman is. (this is why I need to re-read Lovecraft. That was the best I could do without any references but years-old memories. Also I find it funny how the word gets the red squiggly line under it...and yet 'squiggly' is considered spelled correctly!)

I honestly don't see why it means anything. New words are added to the dictionary all the time. This is only a big deal because it is Sarah Palin.
Seconded. I mean really, if you don't like the word, just don't use it. English has just about the largest vocabulary of all the modern languages, and people like Sarah Palin are part of the reason for that. Just get over yourselves and move on.

Last summer, Sarah Palin tweeted the word "refudiate". Now, The New Oxford American Dictionary is accepting her word into their dictionary, as well as naming it "Word of the Year".

I for one consider this utter bullshit. We should not be praising morons for their misuse of the English language.

Anyone think differently? Comments? Anyone else as livid about this as me?
No, not really. Sarah Palin is one of the few politicians I can stand because she's quite easy on the eyes. She doesn't even need to run for office she just smiles a nerdy smile and says something, then people listen as demonstrated here. I really don't know why people think she's unqualified. She's run a business, been a mayor and a governor. That seems to be qualification as I see it. She's certainly more qualified than the asshole who's currently in the White House.

Also she's got that hot librarian/kindergarten teacher thing going. So I find her really sexy. I mean, let's see. Sarah Palin or Joy Behar... Sarah Palin or Jaeneane Garofolo... Sarah Palin or Nancy Pelosi... Christ, ya'll got some ugly women in the liberal circles.

Now stop being envious, it makes your skin turn green. Then you melt when someone throws water on you. /rimshot.
But... the only reason you seem to have given is that you find her attractive...

Any idiot can run a business, and, as shown by much of the political representatives in our nation, any idiot can be a mayor and governor as well.

My anger is not fully directed at her, rather, at the state of our nation and what it deems acceptable nowadays.

Good Job OP. I can make fun of politicians too.
Obama looks like Dumbo
.

Why the long face?
.

Seriously though, get off it. She was one letter off from an actual word, pretty much everyone intuitively knows what she meant just by looking at it, and it was a Twitter post. Not exactly a big deal.

ughhh... every breath Palin breathes makes me angry. i actually considered McCain a viable candidate until he picked Palin as his running mate. i will admit that i tend to lean a bit more to the left, but, yeah... Palin embodies pretty much everything i hate about pretty much everything. what's really scary is this new talk about Palin actually being a viable PotUS candidate for 2012 :( damn, she makes Dubya look like a genius.

i really shouldn't post this, 'cause i'm sure some tea-partier will jump up to defend the Mad Hatter, but, yeah... she just incites me to rage.

oh, and back on topic: yeah, i am absolutely livid that they'd treat "refudiate" as a legitimate contribution to the language :(
I was actually a McCain supporter-ish until Palin came along. I attended a debate at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard at which the authors of the book "Game Change" spoke about McCain wanting to pick Joe Liberman as a running mate to appeal to people like us. So my question to you is would you have voted for McCain had Liberman been the VP canidate?

Incites rage is a good choice of words.

on topic: Did they give a reason? Was it just to give her a pat on the back?

It is the Oxford American dictionary not the Oxford English dictionary so I don't care much so long as the real language isn't being butchered.

It's a good enough reason for me. Not like there's any other reason to idolize a politician.
Any idiot can run a business, and, as shown by much of the political representatives in our nation, any idiot can be a mayor and governor as well.

And any idiot can be President either, Obama is proof of that. The man has no business being a head of state. He's a campaign manager, not a statesman.
My anger is not fully directed at her, rather, at the state of our nation and what it deems acceptable nowadays.
I won't disagree with you there. I just think there are better people we can direct our anger at.

Can you look at that collage and still tell me that Sarah Palin is a problem?[/quote]

I most certainly can.
