Iv'e heard a lot of stories about others having games they wanted to keep sold by their parents, and i have had friends that had the same situations.

Never did I htink it would happen to me, but then i get home ot find all my PSX and PS2 games have gone! I ask my mother if she knows the whereabouts of my games, and she tells me she sold them to somebody. Now i plan to track that person down and get my games back, but thats for another time. The fact she took my memories and sold them is downright unbelievable.

So who else has had this happent to them? Have you had your old games sold without your knowledge or permission?

EDIT: thankyou guys so much for the condolences :)
A bit of background info i should add. Yes im 17 and a minor, and many of the games would have been gifts, that still means they are my possessions. Its the lack of communication and broken trust thats the issue. My family is well off, so money was not a reason, and as has been said in a couple posts, you would get scrap for the PS2 games.

As for playing them, i enjoyed nothing more than going back to my old games and reliving the fun! I did it every couple of days, just to remember some old titles. I spent all of last week playing crash bandicoot, and was about to go play Tony HAwks: Pro Skater 3 when i couldnt find it. My games are kept on a shelf, in my room neatly organised.

Hope that helps a bit!

EDIT 2: Also, while it was a selfish act by my mother, and not very thoughtful, i love her very much and she is in no way a bad parent. I couldnt have asked for a better mum, its just that this one incident is a bit unjustified. So no, my mum is not a terrible parent, she has just made one bad decision.

Also, her reasoning was that my little step-brother never played them. This confused me as they are not his. I dont know how my mum pulled that out of her arse, so now im a even more outraged!

Why were they in your mum's house if you wanted to keep them?

Did she know you wanted to keep them or did you just assume?

My parents would never think of selling my games without my persmission. But, however when I was a kid my mother would throw out my N64, NES, and SNES game boxes. I didn't really care or know any better at the time, but I wish I still had them now.

Ya I had a pretty bad experience. Back when Wii first came out, I bought one which meant I had a PC, Xbox, Wii, and an old regular NES. I loved that NES. I had classics like metal gear, zelda 2, Mario 3, and many others. However, to my Mom it just meant another system lying around the house with more cords and things to pick up so she forced me to sell it on ebay. I still haven't forgiven and never will.

Just a question; who paid for the games? If you paid for them then that is wrong and you should get reimbursed for the purchase price, not the "sale" price. If your mom paid for them, then they are hers to do with as she pleases.

Unless given as a gift.

Regardless, i think it's very poor etiquette to sell anybody's belongings without consent...

but the way it has been put, they would have been a gift. for example, if you buy your friend an expensive watch for their birthday, if they weren't wearing it one day you wouldn't take it back and sell it off without asking them.

the issue isn't so much the price or money, its the violation of trust and a lack of communication.

personally, my mum never has and never would do that to me, seeing as i bought most myself

soooo much background info needed here.

1. Did you pay for the games?
2. Is your family really struggling financially
3. Do you contribute financially to the household?

If you didn't pay for them and your family needs the money, they had every right to sell them to be honest, especially if you can't contribute financially, sucks but you have to be realistic, games are completely insignificant if your entire household is struggling for money to the point where selling your games is an option.

That is really stupid. Not just stupid, but really stupid. She bought it for him and gave it to him. He is the one who uses it, I would probably say it belongs to him.

Dude. Play Station games would sell for like, $2-10 at the most. The $10 is really pushing it. When I was younger I sold every game I beat back to the store, so maybe a few months old for about 4 bucks. Now, I don't know if it is different where you live but I am sure that selling a bunch of 10 year old games (around 10 years old, take off a few years maybe. It came out in 2000 after all) would not sell for that great at all, definitely not enough to pay for bills.

You're underage, so she's allowed to do whatever she wants with "your" property, I'm afraid. Shitty as it is. Fortunately, my parents never saw fit to do anything like that. Sucks, though. Condolences.

Funny my mum did the same. Only she did it because "girls don't play video games". She hates that I still play them now that I'm old enough to buy them without her having any say so. But I got mad when she did. When I move, I'm packing everything and hiding the games and systems and giving them plus the money to send them to me to my mate so that I know they'll get there in one piece and they won't be sold. And I'll leave enough room in one of the boxes for her to pack my Wii in there as well since she has that

well if your familiy is well off, unless it's because you've done something to warrant it then it's a pretty shifty move, as i said, just needed background info.

Parents wouldn't do that to me, but I'm thinking of doing it sometime soon.

The sheer number of PS1 and PS2 games I have is just stupid considering they will never be used. Now, back when I was five, I would use my PS a bit. Now, the N64 gets more use due to its classic game style, and any games on the PS2 I want to play will usually be on the PC - my primary gaming platform. So, soon I'll probably sell all the PS2 games, not the PS2 itself 'cause that's kinda needed to play Guitar Hero - about the only thing it gets used for, and even then only rarely - all my PS1 games, and my PS1 itself. After that I'll see about convincing my parents to sell the Wii and all its games considering they never use them. I think I might have a fair bit of money coming my way soon. All the better to buy more PC games with.

I use to have a huge ps1/ps2 collection that me and my brother shares until he sold them all off for drugs. Now he hates me because I won't let him near my PS3 games and wonders why I'm so protective of them.

Tell your mum that trading used games is the same as piracy. That should get an interesting reaction.
