So I might get flamed for not totally opposing the new law but here it goes anyway.
I don't think most people really seem to understand what the law actually does. What it does is make the sale of mature rated games to minors illegal. That means that if parents want, they can still decide to purchase the game for their children, it's just that the children can no longer buy the games for themselves. As far as that goes, it doesn't really seem too unreasonable to me.
For some retailers, it won't change anything. If I recall correctly, Walmart, Gamestop, and Best Buy already don't sell mature games to minors.
What I think is FAR more unreasonable is how video games are singled out. I mean come on, all R-rated movies are ok without exception, but all mature rated ones are unacceptable? In the words of Graham Stark:
Now if Best Buy sells a kid a DVD of Predator, which is a pretty friggin violent Arnold Schwarzenegger movie, no problem. If, under this law, they sell the same kid the Aliens vs. Predator video game, then Best Buy is criminally liable.
I mean come on, is Perfect Dark really worse than Inglorious Bastards or Basement Jack (extremely violent slasher flick).
Basically, I think it's BS that video games are being held to a different standard than any other medium.
