This is kinda just something I felt I should share, I guess if anyone's had an experience like this it'd be nice to hear about it too.

Today was a very good day. Today I gave my cousin, who is 6, an introduction to the wonderful world of Pokemon, Sharing something that was a huge part of my childhood with him in quite a special way. I helped him through the introduction, Got him his first pokemon (A Mudkip called "Archie") and set him on his way.

He'll go through his first "Grand adventure" in the world of pokemon. Gym battles, Defeating team Magma, Capturing The legendary Rayquaza, Beating the elite 4 and becoming the pokemon champion and experiencing such a great journey, one that was also experienced by... someone else before him.

A big thing that pokemon, and indeed, any age appropriate game we, as gamers played as kids has brought us is our ability to share our experience with someone younger and close to us, be it cousins, brothes, sisters, daughters and sons, and this something I think many people either don't realise or choose to ignore. A game can become a big part of our childhoods, and something dear to us. A story that we can become a part of, that we can shape. A fantasy world that we can be a part of. And not only that, but something we can pass along to the next generation. Whatever my thoughts on the current generation of pokemon, it will never, ever spoil the wonderful time I had with the others, and to be able to pass it on to the next, and let them experience it how I did is just, overwhelming.

So I'm marking the day, because today a young trainer called Kaian, and a Mudkip called Archie began their first steps into the wide world of Pokemon, As an older Trainer passed the torch.

I've be slowly introducing my 6-year-old brother to the world of old classics. He's tried his hands at the original Sonic, Mario and Donkey Kong Country games, but seems to love Kirby even though he is absoultely terrible at all of them XD

Silly kids these days and their Angry Birds.

My little sister and I both play pokemon. She's 10 and I'm 20. She always wants to fight me and uses her level 89 starter, while I use my team of level 50 EV trained juggernauts. I never hold back and usually beat her in just a few turns. She's getting better though, and someday she'll beat me. When she does, I think I'll be just as happy as she will be.

I don't really have many children in my life that I will be able to experience that joy with. The only kids I am close with, happen to have a father who is really into video games. No one passed the torch on to me when I was a child, I just picked it up on my own. I play games with an 11 year old, but she is good enough at Mario Kart to beat me about half the time, and she didn't pick up her skill from me.

Still, perhapes one day I'll be able to spend a raining afternoon cuddled up with a child teaching them how to play a video game...that makes me feel all warm inside.

Just for games in general it's always great to introduce people to something new and I enjoy having them talk about with me, watching them slowly fall in the love with the same games I did once. I hate people who are very elitist with games and don't want 'just anyone' playing a game as in their mind it decreases that games value if everyone knows how great it is (yes, I am talking about one person in particular).

Speaking of pokemon and the next generations, anyone know if Pokemon has any rivals when it comes to the monster raising aspect? The only one I remember is Monster Rancher and Digimon and both died out about 10 years ago, I figure there must be a market out there for a competitor.

RSE? Seriously? When BW2 are already out?

I kid, I kid.

OT: Don't really have anyone people to pass the torch to, as much as I would like to. Mostly I just use my giant knowledge of games to do recommendations and such.

I did that at a gamestop, they knew I had a ungodly amount of knowledge of games to recommend what people would like based on interested (or guess what a game is like based on others I have played).

I hope to one day be able to do that too. To introduce my own children or maybe nephews/nieces to the wonderful old school games I used to play. I'm thinking of pokemon (heart gold and soul silver are good ones for that, imo), mass effect, final fantasy 6 or 8, golden sun 1/2 and CS:GO or even CS 1.6.

Especially pokemon, mass effect and final fantasy 6 and 8 have had a huge impact on my own childhood. Golden sun to a slightly lesser extend as well.

Although it probably won't be Pokemon, I can't wait to pass on the torch to kids/relatives kids. It's gonna be Street Fighter 2 Turbo.

Or just do what my relative did and pass on a whole console and shitload of games, which in my case was a N64.

I gave my first ever pokemon game (yellow) to my best friend Tyler when we were both 8 i think, and that game started him onto the track of loving pokemon like i did, I remember he sold it a few years back for fifty dollars.

I gave my younger brother my old GBA and copy of Leaf Green. I was really glad that I could share a part of my childhood with him - I was even more glad when he got really into it. He's played it through twice now...
[sub]I wasn't sure how to react when it started to look like he was better at it than me.[/sub]
