Basically the question is, would you like it if games didn't have a level cap?

As much as by the point you reach level (Insert number here) you are indefinatley overpowered, I just feel that there can still be more challenges that could be made, so that your character could level up, still be a powerhouse, but not to enemies of your level or higher still.

Fallout 3 can be exempt, because by Level 30, even on Very Hard setting, you are still an "Uber-Masculine Powerhouse."

No, if you want that kind of gameplay use cheats, taking all challenge out of something is no fun what so ever, even if you grinded your way there.

Try Tibia, they increase the lvl cap if a player gets close to it wich is about lvl 400 now i think, btw it an MMORPG

but more OT; most MMO´s work best if they have a lvl cap if you think of the PvP.

but a offline singleplayer game, i´d say mehhh, i play so many games that almost never get to the lvl cap anyways.

Nope.
It'll remove any challenge for the harder parts of the game.
And that sense of relief and success when you finally beat that ass of a boss.

No, if you don't have a level cap you could just grind for 3 days and beat the last boss without a challenge. In most of the games I play, even when your level is as high as it goes the last bosses and enemies can still destroy you if your equipment isn't right.

Disgaea.

Level cap; 9999
And you can reincarnate back to level one whilst still being as powerful.

What? Are you suggesting that the level cap should BE OVER 9 THOU...no that would be silly...

If you don't have a level cap, and you end up getting to level 1 zillion, you could kill every enemy just by breathing in its general direction. Whats so fun about that?

Sometimes yeah, DAGRON Age for instance doesn't have a level cap and it works just fine. That said am glad fallout 3 has one, and many/most other games need some sort of limitation to keep things reasonable and interesting. And anyway there's almost always some sort of mod or cheat that'll let you get around a level cap if you really care

I'd keep a level cap. I mean what point do you start saying "HA I'm at level 52 even if the final boss can be beaten at level 45 ooooh" Yeah, its nice to see how high you can get it, but who really cares?

THANK YOU SO MUCH. I played that game a few years ago and could not for the life of me remember what it was called.

Yes, but it must apply to NPC's as well for the game to remain challenging (but there should still be weakling (which seemed strong before) so you can use your incredible powers to reign chaos and doom upon them).
There could finally be an achievement for raising your level "OVER 9000!!!"

Sacred 2 doesn't reach the insane heights of absurdity with the level caps of Nippon Ichi games but it does let one level grind to around 500.

I wouldn't be opposed to other RPGs following suit but only for certain characters. It would ruin the roleplaying aspect if the human can become as strong as the android in the party or as fast and agile as the were-cheetah or if said were-cheetah were as smart as the human or had a memory as reliable as the android or if the android had any 'mojo'/charisma at all.

Maybe a god or demon should be able to grind into the 1000s but any mortal should work on getting better gear, possibly a super suit of some kind.

as long as the balancing and pacing are good then I'm all for level caps. Plus there has to be constant challenges to test me if i grow to strong. Disgaea did this correctly. but some games not so much. the N/A version of Final Fantasy X you could make your characters insane. but that took alot of time and effort to do. sadly i did this very time consuming task and was rewarded with nothing to prove my epic status with.

I both like an dislike caps. On one hand, having one makes you choose your skills with more care, because you know there won't be the opportunity to max them all out, and there will still be some form of challenge presented.

On the other hand, it can be fun just to see how high you can go, and play around with all the different skills you could possibly get.

Generally for me i like a cap in place to have that sense of an end to a game. When there is seemingly no finish eventually games just feel repetative and boring personally. However some games can be fun to turn on and mess around on no matter how much they are played but once you become too powerful the enjoyment drops. If the achievable level was increased i'd have to say that i'd expect the enemies to become more difficult or something like diablo's difficulty system put in.

Being able to sneeze and wipe out the entire endgame can be fun once or maybe twice but for me that takes the enjoyment out of a game fast

Not only is the level cap 9999, your stats increase geometrically. That means the higher your starting stats, the more you gain per level. You can reroll your characters at level 1, and depending on how high your stats are, you start with more stat points. Which means the strongest characters have reached level 9999 several times. According to a power leveling guide on GameFAQs, it takes over 17 hours of grinding to max out one character. The maximum any given stat can be is 21,474,836. You can also level up your skills, your weapon proficiency, and even your ITEMS (which means grinding through massive random dungeons). There are enemies that require you to be insane levels to beat, but they're all optional. It's insanity, and I just barely pulled myself away from it's brink.

Edit: I looked at the wrong stat, there. It takes 96 hours of power-leveling to reach 9999. If you are trying to max stats out, you have to have gained a total of 185000 levels over all the reincarnations. It's hundreds of hours for each character.
