Patrick Stewart got used to being called ?sir? playing Captain Jean Luc Picard during seven seasons of Star Trek The Next Generation and four feature films. But now it appears he will be being called ?sir? in real life as news out of the UK reports the actor will be knighted by the Queen.

The UK?s Mirror is reporting that Patrick Stewart, who has been spending much of the last decade returning to his roots on the British stage, is to be knighted by the Queen on this years New Year?s Honours list. However, the news is not official, and being cited to "palace sources" According to the report, Stewart is being honored for his "services to drama.

Assuming the report is true, Stewart will join the ranks of other great actors and actresses who have been previously honored as Sirs and Dames, including Michael Caine, Anthony Hopkins, Christopher Lee, Laurence Olivier, John Gielgud, Sean Connery, Ian McKellen, Roger Moore, Helen Mirren, Judi Dench, and Alec Guiness. Now Patrick and his and friend Ian can call each other "sir.""

Long over-due in my opinion but I am delighted with the news, I'm a massive fan of Patrick.

I just jizzed. Twice.

Also totally giggled at the mental image of him and Ian Mckellen playing posh and calling each other sir at the end of every setence.
I'm also ignoring that it could be used in a gay sense too, even though that's also funny.

Well it's a good thing the Queen Mother is dead then isn't it!.
Truely? I had not heard of her demise or are you saying that the title "Queen regent" is a better way to refer to Queen Elizabeth II and that the "queen mother" is some other person?

If Queen Elizabeth II is in fact dead then it still stands that I would not trust her to weild a sword around my neck. Never trust a zombie to knight you without going for your brains, a wise man once told me.

Holy cow, this is fantastic!. "Let it be 'Sir'!" brilliant stuff.

I am genuinely happy and I am not someone who cares about celebrities either but wow, Patrick Stuart, he is on my favorite list of people next to Stephen Fry and David Tenent.

I'm only astounded that it's taken this long. Bravo, sir!

...as a side note, I didn't realize he was rocking the 'stache these days.

The Queen Mother or the Queen mum, is a title for a widowed queen whose son or daughter is the reigning monarch in the United Kingdom. Queen Elizabeth, mother to Queen Elizabeth II (queen regnant) was the Queen mother till she died in 2002.

Therefore she is in no shape to do any energetic sword swinging unless science creates a zombie drug..even then I very much doubt the word "energetic" would be appropriate.

Not to be confused with Queen Elizabeth I, mind you, who lived in the 16th century.

... I... actually posted... something!

Also as Queen Mother she wouldn't be knighting people anyway. That's the purvue of the queen herself, and the Queen Mother wasn't queen.. She was never really a Queen. Her husband was a king and she was queen consort, then when she outlived the king and the title passed to her daughter she was called Queen Mother to avoid confusion.

On a side note, I always preferred to see the queen mum to the queen.
