Great artcle, good to get every bit of information on this game :D i am looking forward to the coop aspects of this game, but i think the pvp is what will really keep this going. Of course all aspects of this game are going to make it great and i cant wait to play! need to add a poll.

PvP or PvE what are you more excited about?

All of this just keeps getting hotter and better as we approach the release on December 31st. Currently they are streaming live game coverage at http://www.twitch.tv/r5studios during the PAX Prime coverage and there are rumors of a special live event this Sunday. This is truly the next gen game people have been craving.

Wait... isn't there already a game that has all these features: Namely, Global Agenda?

It's also FTP with a cash store I believe and has the same "guild" mechanics and even class structure.

You should come to Firefall's forums and read a few threads about it and discuss it. Of course the games have similarities but they're very different from each other.

YES. HELL YES. HELL FUCKING YES.

If they manage to come up with interesting quests (IE, something beyond "kill six X"), this could be glorious. And even if they don't, it'll probably be good to spice up a few long, boring days.

There is also the fact that Firefall has been in development for 5 years, will offer no power items in the cash shop, one character can play all the classes (ruling out having to create new toons and grinding for them) and that jetpacks have shorter flight times with faster recharge rates.

Sounds pretty fun. I'd play it as a hold-over for Dark Millenium: Online though, so a years worth of gameplay if it keeps me interested.

Even though I have been following the game for months casually, the 'vertical combat' is new information for me. It sounds like it is a better implementation than Aion's awful system, I just hope they don't artificially turn off the jetpack in some zones, like aion did. In all seriousness though, I was excited for this game before I knew there were jetpacks, and what activity ISN'T improved by the addition of jetpacks!

How useful do you think the teleport beacon was, and did you try the engineer? I'm interested about the power of the turrets.

I'm so freaking happy about this little article.
I stumbled upon Firefall a long freaking time ago, and I signed up because it looked pretty good, but then I let it drop off my radar. I'm glad to hear that it looks really good.

I hate to self quote, but here are some of the main differences. Also, several GA players have come to the Firefall communities with the same thoughts. Some troll, others actually find out about the game and notice the major differences.

I'm really loving this new trend in F2P games where the cash shop relies on cosmetics and building goodwill with their players rather than making the game unplayable for free. Path of Exile is going the same way and I'm thoroughly enjoying the beta for that so far. I will surely check this out once I get a chance to.

This game was darn fun in PvP. I did not get a chance to try the PvE demo but it looked good. The action was smooth and cool. I played a medic in my play through and the 20 minutes flew by. I had a blast! More information when I can think again. (Three days of PAX will do that to you.)

Something to look forward to in 2013/2014.
The game is actually open to the public this December, with the first beta invites going out within the next week or so.

Well, I'm definitely curious. The game sounds like its coming out good, and as long as nothing changes for the cash shop, I'll definitely give it a shot. The biggest killer for any Online game for me, is a stupid cash shop. F2P or not, if you can buy power and permanent stat buffs, I'm not interested.
The devs have specifically said NO power items in cash shop. They said "convenience items" so they may sell XP/money boosts, or even basic module packs (that you can get by just spending time finding them). But even if you can buy modules all they do is offer different tactical options. Sure some will be better than others, but for the most part it will just give your battleframe a different tactical advantage, not power.

Totally agree with this, though I'm also worried that it won't live upto expectations. The more I hear of it the more I like the sound of it... but that also makes me fearful of just how they'll screw it up in the end :(.

There are very few games I've been this excited for that haven't disapointed me come release, infact most of the games I end up enjoying most are the ones I hear very little about until release time.

Alistair.
I can understand the worry that it wont live up to expectations, few games do nowadays. Even though it is a new company as far as game development goes, the Developers have some great resumes. From the team lead on WoW, to a lead designer on tribes. Plus a renowned scifi author and his daughter to flesh out the story and insure it is bullet proof. This game has been in the making for 5 years (probably about 6 now), so in a sense you havnt heard much about it until release time, as it was officially announced at last years pax and is being released this december.

I've never heard of this before, actually.

Sounds vaguely interesting (still no idea what a P.O.S. is though), but I won't hold my breath that it won't become boring (global agenda) or 90% PvP-oriented.

If it actually becomes an in-depth shooter with customization and explorability, I'd be impressed, but I don't expect it to.

Looks cool, I signed up for the beta when it was first announced.

What's with all the new user spam though? Kinda doubt these are independent excited people... :/
