PC Gamers, Boycott MW2

I simply hate coming on to the Escapist, a once nice and entertaining forum, to find that it's devolved into a bunch of idealist idiots who think that their boycaotts will actually affect anything. You can try all you want, the game is still going to sell. I give up. It's obvious that no one realizes that all I'm trying to say is "BOYCOTT IN SILENCE" Because you're all too fucking high on yourselves to pay attention to what other people say.

If that's the case, I think there's a problem here beyond the existence of boycott threads. I haven't been here very long, but for all the discussion about Modern Warfare 2, pleasant or not, I can still find an entertaining thread that has a degree of levity to it.

Do I think too many threads have been made regarding the same subject? Yes.
Do I think vocally boycotting the game is a bad idea? No.

Really, the only possible harm that can come from having boycotts is that the boycott doesn't work, and it turns out to be a waste of time. It has no effect on anyone else except those who choose to be annoyed at an issue that didn't bother them in the first place.I won't force you to share my views about the game, nor will I force you to boycott it if you don't want to. You also have the right to get annoyed from hearing about the game. However, you do NOT have the right to silence those who do care.

If you want to leave the forum, do it, hell I don't even know you...but I think if you're leaving simply because of a couple boycotts that took place, that's a bit of a foolish reason to leave. Nobody here is holding you at gunpoint and forcing you to read these threads.

If you're American, it's called freedom of speech and right to assembly. We have every right to say and boycott what we want.

I have to say, I find it almost unfathomable how people are getting so pissed off at people boycotting an issue that they quite clearly don't care about. If it doesn't concern you, why are you so determined to silence the people it DOES concern?

Few things that the boycott have achieved.

Breaking the world record in most canceled pre orders in one day on Gamestop. Probably broke the world record of most canceled pre order of all time too.

Making Modern warfare 2 not being Nr 1 selling on Steam sale list. It was for quite some time lower than Nr 7 and was outsold by various games like Killing Floor, Torchlight and others.
Right now it's at top 6.

Still I'm baffled that most of you guys here don't have a single clue because all most of you think we are just mad for nothing. No, that's not what it's about. If you don't get this you will most likely never get it and you are then most likely a console gamer.

Who quite frankly just buys into all kinds of things.


But so yes the PC boycott might not actually do any money harm on IW. But when they find out that they wasted so much money on the PC version and it's IWNet while the entire community doesn't want to use it. Because it will most likely be crap with crap ping.

They will most likely reconsider the choice of dedicated servers. They did after all say that this was the most they spent on a PC version of the game. When it's a console port. Yes that's what it is. It's special features was "Enable to use the mouse, chatting and changing GRAPHIC SETTINGS!" Oh my, those are some hardcore PC features there. So most of the money must have gone to the IWNet part.
They can do it like Left 4 Dead, match making with dedicated servers. It works just fine.
But a server browser would be idea for this game.

When they see the sales go up like a rocket they will think again and so will every other company trying to get rid of a perfectly working thing from a game.

Worst thing that can happen is that they skip to code for the PC version at all which is something we wouldn't like.

Truthfully, I would be much better off with Infinity Ward simply not making their game on PC, if that is the level of dedication they put to the PC version. I mean, they listed mouse controls, text chat, and graphic settings as the main features of the PC version. Really?

Yes, luckily it looks shit what with all the ridiculously powerful killstreaks, so I don't have to feel bad about not buying it. I hate killstreak pwnage, I very much prefer shooting people in my first person shooters.

I won't buy it and will never own a console again...Been playing 1st person shooters since Battlzone came out in the early 1980's been hooked eversince. The younger generations do not understand why some of us can't play consoles. I guess it falls under its hard to teach an old dog new tricks. I tried the consoles for a year and never felt comfortable playing them so i sold it all and built a new gaming rig and decided that was the end of console gaming for me.

I fully support any attempt to change the way software companies try to control us. Not that it will change the forcasted profits they have planned. From what I have seen in the last few years is a trend to eliminate the PC side of gaming so the money mongers can fill they're pockets. The sheep follow the shepard it has been that way for thousands of years. This is no different. I was at one time a sheep but have since gone astray no longer to follow the crowd into the console world I will play MY WAY until I can no longer, and I respect everyones preference to they're way of gaming. The boycott didn't do anything? Was that not the AVP3 dev team quickly changing its tune about dedicated server support just recently or did I just happen to misread a different article?

Face it, even though MW2 still did amazingly well (even if it is a terrible frat boy game), the rest of the companies out there heard our voices, looked at IW.net and promptly said "fuck that shit."
