this is more of a rant than anything else I supose

but I have to ask [b/]why does the games industry hate the PC?[/b]

I mean bad ports...you know I can deal with that

DRM....is probably the biggest problem but its one of those things you grit and bear

not geting certain games....I'm still wating for Red Dead Rockstar...yes its 2 years old and Ive already played it on console...but I'm still waiting...[small/]dammit[/small]

and retail PC games are just downright depressing...granted thats hardly an issue for many with the rise of the digital platform...but for a fair number I'm sure downloading games at 15gb a pop just isn't viable

the fact is when "we" are not being called pirates we are having to hear about how "PC gaming is dying" or some such crap, and I'm sick of it

the fact is I know platforms have their advantages and disadvantages...you'd look pretty silly acting like its the biggest travesty/injustice in the world that you can't play Mass Effect on your Wii...because....[i/]well theres your problem[/i]

but do you get the feeling we are being pretty punished for our platform of choice? is it unreasonable of me to want to feel like I'm not being treated like a criminal if I want to play games? is it unreasonable of me to expect games to be released on my systm?

I mean to me this isn't choosing some systm with problems out of blind brand loyalty (as in why can't I play Mass effect on my Wii?)

the differences between console and PC are vast in many ways...some might say "get a console" but I don't want a fucking console....[b/]consoles break games[/b]..hold on, hear me out

I have a PS3, I love my PS3, right now its my primary platform since mr TOSHIBA has retired, and I have played some great games on it

but lets be honest. playing on a console (for the most part) shits me greatly, I can't stand not being able to see the screen and text clearly (hence why I play on an upright chair close to the TV since I'm lucky enugh to have one in my room) and the controlls...oh god

90% of games thease days while good are still frustrating as fuck....because 90% contain shooting, and I love shooting but usuing a gamepad is somthing I will never really enjoy doing

the experience is so much better when I've got a moniter and the precision/ease of a mouse, thats the difference between a frustrating experience and an engaging one..hell I played ME3 first time around on my PS3 and I remember being beaten to a pulp by banshees

played on PC second time (same diffuculty) and those Banshee's were MY bitches...did not die once on the same encounter than beat me so many times before..which goes to show how I was just being hampered by artificial difficulty

my point there is NOT to say which platforms are better (seriously take that argument somhwere else) my point is my choice of systm is vital to my experience and "getting a console" is no fix for issues I feel are unfair

*sigh*

ok...thourghts?

There's more money in making console games, simple as that. The industry has nothing against you.

Ooooh a vault thread about pc and consoles. Gotta post in this.

piracy, ease of developement, lower expectations, ease of marketing

Consoles are just easier. Dont quote me on that.

I'd rather focus on the double standard that rears its ugly head every so often, like today. PC Gamers upset that a game is being released on another system that they don't have? = Entitled Brats

Console game released on another system that console owner doesn't have? = Eat a dick Nintendo.

The games industry doesn't hate PCs, it loves money thats all. If there is a perceived increase in profit in moving somewhere else then it will almost always jump ship. If it's easier to do it somewhere else then they will do it. If it's less likely to get pirated then they will roam.

The PC games market is strange because so many people buy games and then pay to play them. If you can't get someone to shell out 100 quid a year on your product then it will always seem better to guarantee sales at 40 quid(console) rather than 25 quid(PC).

There have been numerous threads of late about which is better PC or console and always the PC comes out on top. That said the money lies with consoles so of course the consoles will get preference over exclusive titles. If more PC users payed for games then there would be more balance but sadly most people i know only pay for the odd game and pirate the rest.

Bad ports go both ways you know. On consoles there are FPSs that are almost unplayable because the aiming hasn't had the joypad taken into account. Ever played an RTS port on a console? They are terrible and only sell on the hype of the PC version.

As for your experiences using a control pad it's really all just down to practice. I used to be PC through and through but after a few FPSs played with a pad i realised there is very little difference. The mouse and keyboard is less tactical with aiming, it's just who can point and click fastest. With the pad you tend to approach shooting in a different way. You find your level to aim at and then strafe into shooting position. If i was competing against myself with both control methods the mouse and keyboard would win but not by much.

In conclusion i can see why you are frustrated but your asking a lot to have every game you want to play on one platform. At some point in the future it won't be a problem because mobile phone games will take over the bulk of revenue and then we will all get pissed off about it but until then we make do with what we have.

And yet PC releases are cheaper here than they are on consoles. I suppose a fair bit of it is down to preferences (both consumer and marketing), since PC is becoming more of a portable thing than it was 5 years ago, the amount of average households that have a proper gaming rig that will support a lot of new releases is getting lower (people choosing laptops and tablets over PC towers) optimising games for PC is harder than consoles because consoles all have standardised hardware whereas PCs don't.

Playing games on a console isn't that bad (I still hate Xbox controllers, no matter how much their fanboys whine), but again, it all comes down to what you are used to, I have a PS3 as well, and I can swap between PC and PS3 control schemes no worries, my console game collection is in serious danger of overwhelming my bookcase.

I love my PC to death (even when it does decide to snub me) though.

I just want to know why PC games released later. It's like...X360/PS3 release: September 6th. PC release: September 18th.

Because as Yahtzee said, your mum will only buy you a single console, and if it turns out you bought the wrong one, you're screwed.

Meanwhile, in PC land.

I don't really feel like I have a need to complain as a PC gamer. Sure, we get different stuff, but there's a lot of unique PC only gaming out there. I mostly play games that are at the least a solid port, and at best a PC centric game (either PC was primary platform like BF3 and Metro 2033, or it's exclusive like DayZ).

only one of those is a buyable game and none of the makers of any of those games give a flying feck about console gaming and tbh neither should you because the real future of gaming is already being played out in the east in gaming markets far bigger and richer than ours that most people who speak English are completely blind to and its not built around about what supposedly highly important console releases are being doled for consumption by monolithic corporate publishers who simply don't get it and are dying a death as a result in the eyes of global investors.

you mean mobile games?

The bad ports are the worst part of being a pc gamer. its bad enough that you are bottle necked by consoles, you actually perform worse due to lazy porting.

Well because to a publishers it's a hateful platform, you can't lock it down, you can't make a dime on garage devs, can't get internet extortion money, can't keep people from making content to impose your own, can't region lock, they get all sorts of free services, the technical standard is magnitudes higher then on consoles and then those PC jerks have the nerve to get picky on you... fuck em :p

Bottom line is triple A titles sell somewhere between 5-15% on PC yet they take much more work and the crowd is more demanding, from a business standpoint you kinda want to go after easier targets.

"Choice of system"? Let me ask you: why do you have to choose one system? I have a 360, a PS3, a Wii, and a gaming-capable PC, not to mention all the older systems I have, so just choosing one system and sticking with it seems silly to me. : \

I don't know even on ports/multiplatform(not the same thing) it's been rare for me in this generation to consider the console version as being better than the pc version.

Mirrors edge
crysis series
dead space series
fallout/skyrim
mass effect series
dragon age series
Trine
devil may cry 4
resident evil 5(with a few user made mods even resident evil 4 gets the best version)
crystal dynamics tomb raiders
call of duty
portal series
Bioshock series
Human Revolution
Alice: madness returns
Batman: Arkham series

What does feel shafting is when DLC misses the PC, i'm still waiting for a PC Tomb Raider: Underworld - Beneath the Ashes DLC.
I wish square would still do pc versions of the final fantasy non-mmo's releases.

Even as a pure PC gamer, every time I see a "Ohh woe is me being a PC gamer" I get a headache. It is no wonder everyone hates us.
