Here's a little list of pre-2006 games I love:
- Half Life 1 and 2
- Starcraft-
- Warcraft 3 Frozen Throne (and all the previous Warcraft installments)
- Max Payne
- Red Alert 1/2
- Fallout 1/2
- Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura
- Rollercoaster Tycoon 1/2
- Planescape: Torment
- Diablo 1/2
- Dungeon Siege 1/2
- Age of Empires 1/2/3 + expansions (I still prefer 2 with the expansion above all else)
- Monkey Island games (not sure how many there are of them, I just know I especially loved 2)
- Worms games (2 wins again)
- Unreal Tournament 99 (no, there are no other UT games, just Battlefield-like abominations, I don't consider those UT games)
- Quake games (I guess all of them, except Enemy Territory)
- Theme Hospital
- The Sims 1/2
- Simcity/2000/3000/4

I really could go on like that for a while. That list contains shooters, RTS, building sims, RPG's, hack&slash. All in all, plenty of stuff to keep you going.

Planescape Torment's a definite "must-play". "Must-read", anyway.

Do not try to run NWN2; it's a 2006 release, IIRC, but it's not exactly optimised well. The KotORs should run OK; KotOR II is a 2005 release, and while they occasionally have engine hiccups, you should be able to run at least on mid-settings, IMO.

Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura is meant to be good, not played it, though. If you're looking for "lighter" strategy, you might try Age of Mythology, which is quite good fun.

Neverwinter Nights, Neverwinter Nights 2, Supreme Commander (or if you want to go really retro, Total Annihalation), Dawn of War (and the bijillion expansions), Red Alert 3... Orange Box? Maybe?

If you can run Black and White 2 then you should get Black and White if you don't have it already. The gameplay is totally different from the 2nd, but I prefer the 1st. It's a lot simpler.

On Play.com they'll sell you the entire Command and Conquer series up until Tiberium Wars for 20 quid - every expansion pack's included and so is Renegade: http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/5855572/The-Command-Conquer-Saga/Product.html

Sanitarium is a brilliant point-and-click adventure game and one of my personal favourite games of all time, so if you find it somewhere cheap like eBay I'd definetly pick that out.

Other than all those, I'd recommend any Worms game and the original Theme Hospital and Zoo Tycoon. You'll find all these games cheap and they're fun little things that can sometimes eat up an entire day of gaming.

Jagged Alliance 2..it's old (oh ever so old) yes but imho one of the (if not the) best game ever made.
Played it about 10 times all the way through the story is good the characters are great (well not all of them.....jees Ira just fucking die already)and the round based combat is awesome.

Guys, I have a hell of a list now, it's going to be 2012 before I get all of them :p. I have actually just ordered Manhunt for the PC. I wil order Arcanum, Undying, Max Payne 1+2, Nolf 2, Baldurs Gate, Sid Meirs Pirates!, Sam and Max, Kotor II and The longest Journey when I have the money.
